Isn't it just. Spacey is such a fantastic actor. Such a let down about his other activities. I try not to let it put me off enjoying his performances though as they are other characters. He's great in American Beauty.
The capture/reveal in Se7ven was especially surprising, partly because Spacey's role in the film was kept out of film trailers, posters, and other promotional material leading up to its release.
Jason Rydquist very late to the party here but i believe he was left out of marketing on the advice of spacey himself, with him saying that it would help hide the revelation in the movie. which looking back is easy to see now but a good bit of thinking at the time if i’m correct
I screamed in joy after seeing the inclusion of Gone Girl and arguably the best part of Amy's crime, the planning, which is even far more grotesque in the novel!
I think they've mentioned once that that kind of video would be extremely difficult as it would be taken down for copyright reasons if they feature the actual soundtrack and without featuring them it wouln't make much sense, would it? Every Frame a Painting did a video on temp music and he had to call whoever owned the rights to the soundtrack, the studios and whatnot, and get their consent and Cinefix would have to do the same.
10). Dog Day Afternoon 9). Gone Girl 8). Ocean's Eleven 7). Ichi The Killer 6). Inside Man 5). Oldboy 4). Catch Me If You Can 3). Chinatown 2). Se7en 1). Reservoir Dogs
I'm very shocked that Ichi the Killer made it to the list. I watched it years ago and I still can't forget some scenes. Only for a mature, stable audience who are interested in understanding depraved minds. Cinefix is indeed awesome. Also, I'd liked a mention of Goodfellas.
One film I thought most certainly would be mentioned in your discussion of the execution of a crime would've been the opening bank heist of "The Dark Knight." Planned to a tee, the Joker masterminds the gathering of the crew, the prep work, the heist itself, the elimination of witnesses (including the crew itself), and the getaway, and manages to cleanly rob the mob, all while exposing the corruption of the police chasing said mob more effectively than even Batman could manage.
I think they've mentioned once that that kind of video would be extremely difficult as it would be taken down for copyright reasons if they feature the actual soundtrack and without featuring them it wouln't make much sense, would it? Great episode as always. I hope I can push consistant quality like you guys. I'm also glad Dog Day Afternoon made the list. I'm reading Sidney book right now and he seemed to really love the movie.
Ichi is hilarious, if you don't watch it you're definitely missing out! What other film can you see someone get cut completely in half with a blade on a foot!?
9:40 Drew Carey: "Now, we go on to a game called 'Narrate'. This is for Colin and Ryan. They're going to act out a film noir scene, and narrate for each other to the style of some music that we've selected for them..."
A candidate for best coverup should have been Layer Cake(2004) the real/fake police raid meant to fool both the hitman and dopey theifs was absolutely brilliant.
If “M” can be included how about “White Heat” with James Cagney and his famous line: “made it ma, top of the world” before the fuel container blows. Truly brilliant film noir.
Favorite Movie Crime: The Jokers bank heist from The Dark Knight. Its a perfect first act action set piece, establishing the joker, his planning, lack of emotion, the mafia plot of the movie and having the greatest soundtrack for any movie villain ever.
+Moosbett he has like 3 themes. Hans Zimmer uses Themes that aren't melodies, but sounds and intervals, for this whole trilogy. Batman: 2 chords, Joker #1: 1 note on an electric cello, Joker #2: a rhythm, Joker #3: a distorted bass guitar.
all of these videos are so great! The narration, the writing, the essay-like dissection of the genres and justification of the picks are endlessly entertaining. Thanks CineFix
Place Beyond the Pines deserved at least an honourable mention for Aftermath. Devoting the entire third act to the generational impact of one crime across two different families turned an otherwise fine crime thriller into a really ambitious, albeit imperfect, epic

YES!!! RESERVOIR DOGS!!!! "Stop pointin' that gun at my daaaaad!" One of the greatest "Oh, the shit's about to get real" lines, to cap off one of the greatest standoff scenes, which caps off one of the greatest 'heist gone wrong' movies ever made.
I'm thinking that it would be totally awesome for you guys to do a how to series with tips and tricks for movie making. You clearly have the knowledge to do a short series like this and it could be really interesting and informative for both budding filmmakers and just those interested in the process.
search youtube. there are channels like, Film Riot, Filmmaker IQ, Lessons from the screenplay, storytellers, nerdwriter. I could go on and on. just search.
Well to be honest, every one of their videos feels like a how to make movies, to me. This is what sets them apart so much from other list channels. Most tense moments list? Let's dive into what tension actually is! Every video is a study of the topic the video is about, and not just a ranking of scenes based on popularity or such, but each number is about a particular aspect of the topic in which the proposed scenes excel! You can learn so much just by watching these, I feel ! Cheers !
Brilliant: the way you made the whole story of the crime into 10 parts and then picked the best for each one. And that this process makes "Reservoir Dogs" the (indisputably) number one, well, what word is miles past brilliant? Radiant? Dazzling? Luminous? Star-like?
you guys are the amazing!!!!!!!!!! keep the amazing work up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please some do some top ten videos for: 1) music scores 2) comedy characters 3) sequels 4) franchises 5) cameos 6) musicals 7) fourth wall breaks
Both great movies (especially Goodfellas), and I love Scorsese, but not for this category. Those movies are about a character, not about a crime. there are many crimes depicted in them, sure. but they're not the point of the movie. the character's journey is.
The Goodfellas cover up, where Layla plays as Jimmy's crew are found dead around town, is utterly unforgettable. Half the films on this list are character driven and feature multiple crimes, so i find using that as an argument for Goodfellas omission rather bizarre.
stop it, you are so much better than watchmojo. I can't. The way you describe movies is so well done, I'm interested the whole time. So many movies have been put on my to watch list. I love this series. You also stole like 10 hours of my life binging your videos. Thank you.
One of the coolest and most unique crimes in film history has to be the one in Unbreakable: Murdering hundreds and hundreds of people all in the hope of finding the one person among those vast numbers who is a real life invulnerable superhero. Badass!
Not a traditional crime, to be sure, but Khan hijacking the Reliant and using it to take revenge on Kirk and the Enterprise in _Wrath of Khan_ is one of my personal favourites. The sci-fi element is there, but since you could easily tell the same story in a completely mundane setting (using galleons or submarines instead, for example), it means the futuristic stuff is just set dressing for a more universal story about obsession and revenge.
This list is oozing awesome, great stuff. Drive's 'See you in 4' is wicked too, the whole thing about the driver giving them 5 minutes, anything happens in that and he's theirs, anything happens after that, they're on their own, so cool and I love that film and its soundtrack so much, it's like the New Retro Wave of films.
My top ten favorite crime movies: Dolores Claiborne, Maltese Falcon, Strangers on a Train, Double Indemnity, On the Waterfront, Godfather, Goodfellas, Once Upon a Time in America, Fugitive and Departed. The first two are tied and a couple of my favorite movies ever.
My absolute favorite crime movie is "Logan Lucky". My daughters & I have an annual viewing of it the weekend of the Coca-Cola 600. It's hilarious, well-thought out, fun characters, directions and mis-directions...and a great conclusion, which MIGHT leave you hanging. I can't recommend this movie enough.
THANK YOU GOD for choosing the original Oldboy. That's the film that popped into my head, right before you said it and when I saw it revealed, I immediately thought you'd go with the remake.
I thought for sure Rififi would be in there somewhere. At least it got a mention. High and Low, basically the blueprint for the modern crime procedural, was completely MIA.
I would have gone with "The usual suspects" for the number 4 slot. The whole movie is just one brilliant getaway. And with THAT ending on top of that. Sad to see that it wasn't even mentioned, it's surely one of the great crime movies.
Never cared for it. There's no way of knowing what happened and what was fantasy. No point in the master international criminal of the world allowing himself to be in police custody. Then a detective is stunned, STUNNED, that all the rambling pointless stories told by a man he thinks is a con man turn out to be fiction.
Absolutely brilliant list and I acknowledge that it would be impossible to mention every single great movie crime, but I still feel like The Great Escape and Shawshank Redemption deserved nods in your "escape" category.
Kevin Spacey screaming, "DETECTIIIIIIIIVE" is one of the best delivered lines in history
Isn't it just. Spacey is such a fantastic actor. Such a let down about his other activities. I try not to let it put me off enjoying his performances though as they are other characters. He's great in American Beauty.

Every Frame a Painting did a video on temp music and he had to call whoever owned the rights to the soundtrack, the studios and whatnot, and get their consent and Cinefix would have to do the same.
Eminem - Lose Yourself

Yeah, I guess it would be difficult because of the copyright drama. Anyways, I'll leave my vote for "Oh brother where art thou?" right here.

I'm very shocked that Ichi the Killer made it to the list. I watched it years ago and I still can't forget some scenes. Only for a mature, stable audience who are interested in understanding depraved minds. Cinefix is indeed awesome.
Also, I'd liked a mention of Goodfellas.
Top 10 iconic one-liners? Examples like: "Whats in the boooooox?!" or "Hasta la vista, baby".
I'm pretty sure they have a list of 50 movie quotes, and I think they made a second one.
EDIT; it was 100 movie quotes
How would you categorize it?
but that would involve thinking and minimal effort before typing......

Oh man. Gone Girl was fucking dynamite! I despised her so much. Ehat a fucking rollercoaster of a film.
I've never seen it, but WTF??!! I will soon, looks INTENSE!

Great episode as always. I hope I can push consistant quality like you guys. I'm also glad Dog Day Afternoon made the list. I'm reading Sidney book right now and he seemed to really love the movie.
Fantastic. I need to go rewatch all of those now. Except Ichi the Killer... No f*#$ing way.
haha yeah, not that one..
I haven`t seen it. But when Cinefix says about a movie "this shit is nuts" you bet I will avoid it like the devil himself :D
Ichi is hilarious, if you don't watch it you're definitely missing out! What other film can you see someone get cut completely in half with a blade on a foot!?
Kingsman. Except the blades ARE her feet... bonus.
Ichi the Killer is amazing; I definitely should rewatch it.
9:40 Drew Carey: "Now, we go on to a game called 'Narrate'. This is for Colin and Ryan. They're going to act out a film noir scene, and narrate for each other to the style of some music that we've selected for them..."
What?
Don't worry I know it's from Whose line but what?

Most fantastic shootout in cinematic history? Heat!
Dog Day Afternoon is one of my favorite movies of all time. Got to see it on the big screen. Amazing.
Al Pacino is impeccable.
I realized LA Confidential never finds it's way on to any of these lists. That's a shame.
I was thinking it should've taken a top spot. It's easily one of the best crime movies ever made.
I seem to remember it popping up somewhere. Maybe best structured movies
I am in a minority in saying this, but although the film is an excellent modern noir, I don't see it as a 'classic'.
LA Confidential is one of my 10 favorite movies of all time. So damn good!!
Such a good movie !! You're right
A candidate for best coverup should have been Layer Cake(2004) the real/fake police raid meant to fool both the hitman and dopey theifs was absolutely brilliant.
I think Ichi the Killer was one really badass film! Loved it.

Favorite Movie Crime:
The Jokers bank heist from The Dark Knight.
Its a perfect first act action set piece, establishing the joker, his planning, lack of emotion, the mafia plot of the movie and having the greatest soundtrack for any movie villain ever.
TTTMusic totally agree...can't believe it's not even a mention..
The greatest soundtrack for any movie villain ever? Yeah, that great that I didn't even notice that he has his own theme...
TTTMusic yeah that's really good
TTTMusic I think the best villainous theme music is the Imperial March
I fuckin love these
Fincher Wright me too, so I added top ten lists to tylergrecomovies.com let me know what you think!
I never thought i would hear ichi the killer on a list. You guys got a diverse range of movies
I really think the opening bank scene from the Dark Knight should've been included somewhere
TheRdvlshp09 I literally scrolled down to find someone say exactly that haha
Dark knight is not a crime movie
@@Machiavelli-828 still a crime scene tho
Joker is the best mastermind in rob a bank but I never want to work for him :))

all of these videos are so great! The narration, the writing, the essay-like dissection of the genres and justification of the picks are endlessly entertaining. Thanks CineFix
I've got to applaud your restraint. Seeing a CineFix list about movie crimes and not including Rififi was a surprise lol.
Austin's Obsession Productions nope. Still in the mentioned. But hey, Rififi has been in what, 3 list already? Still I ain't complaining.
My dad and I watch the Ocean`s 11-13 about every six months. Its re-watchable appeal is most certainly due to its stellar cast.
You made a lousy day so much better. Thank you
This is why I love Cinefix. Loads of old movies. Times when storyline and actors are the most important commodities, not high end gadgets and FX
Not even a mention of A Fish Called Wanda. One of the best crime/comedy movies made.
The bit on Manfrengensen was brilliant
Ichi the Killer getting some love. YES
DETECTIVE!! I get Goosebumps everytime.
For me, it’s when he smiles and says, “Oh...he didn’t know!” Talk about the WORST way to find that out!

See Ichi the Killer in the list, instantly pressed like!
Brilliant choice with Reservoir Dogs at number 1 but The Dark Knight needed to be in this list in perhaps a psychological crimes category.
*Ichi the killer* was a pure fuckin' masterpiece.
Takashi Mike is a genius.
"Old Boy" -- the original
"I Saw the Devil" --- Good Lord.
"Lucky Number Slevin" -- good times
Oldboy is sooooo good! Everything about the movie is amazing
Wow these list are well though out

Never thought I would see Ichi the Killer on a Top Ten list that wasn't "Top Ten weirdest movies".
"The Town" 2010 should have gotten a mention somewhere...
agree
Old Boy is just insane, watched it alone and talked out loud to myself the last half hour.I never do that ever! The end of that movie is unreal
What about Goodfellas? Or even Casino? It's crime after crime in those two excellent movies and they didn't even get mentioned?
Agreed
Natalia Rivera those 2 would be more suited to a different category. but that's not to say they weren't worth a mention.
Both great movies (especially Goodfellas), and I love Scorsese, but not for this category. Those movies are about a character, not about a crime. there are many crimes depicted in them, sure. but they're not the point of the movie. the character's journey is.
Natalia Rivera they'd rather pick their pretentious foreign flicks so they can show us how smart & cultured they are.
The Goodfellas cover up, where Layla plays as Jimmy's crew are found dead around town, is utterly unforgettable.
Half the films on this list are character driven and feature multiple crimes, so i find using that as an argument for Goodfellas omission rather bizarre.
I'd love it you guys did this based on genre of crime, eg...heist, assassination, Con, etc...
Reservoir Dogs being #1 on this list was absolutely the right call
I would've chosen I Saw The Devil. It's way better in my opinion. (But very hard to watch.)
Great film but over Rashoman? They were definitely being biased here.

Ichi the Killer is one of my all time favorites. Glad you put it in.

Reading the comments I think a lot of people think this Top 10 Crime Movies, instead of Top 10 Movie Crimes :D

Another significant omission from the list: *Heat*. The downtown bank heist is executed perfectly, the getaway ... not so much.

They mentioned it.
THANK YOU GOD for choosing the original Oldboy. That's the film that popped into my head, right before you said it and when I saw it revealed, I immediately thought you'd go with the remake.
****SPOILERS FOR SE7EN****
The fact that all the blood on “John Doe” is Brad Pitt’s wife is *insane* to think about.
And that’s not even the biggest spoiler!
Damn..didn't think of of that blood belonging to her. Does make sense.
Spot on with Oldboy. Can't think of any more elaborate set of criminal activity all for revenge.
Who else has seen Ichi The Killer?
Not many have seen it but it's definitely an interesting watch.
NOPE.
Dr. Manhattan I've never heard of it, but after watching this, I wanna watch it!
Aseel It's a really weird film by the way
Dr. Manhattan but is it worth it?
Aseel Well it's one of the films that some love and some hate. I liked it but I'm not sure how you'll feel towards it. Maybe watch a trailer
Thanks for putting Reervoir dogs on number 1 pick. It's my second favorite Tarantino movie.
"The invisible guest" is by far the best crime movie of all time ¡¡Must see!!
Even Tarantino-esquely telling different parts of the story out of order. I love it.
Me: dogs better be on here
Me after video: *screaming in cheer*
Well................
Me too, Tarantino is my favourite writer.
gater8893 RD is my second favorite film of all time, it’s so underrated and in my opinion doesn’t get nearly enough praise
I mean it’s on the thumbnail...
This is how you do a top 10 series, it feels more natural and smooth and very well researched
HEAT!
putting gone girl on here when the crime plan genre is always soooo male - yall are icons, appreciate you on this day of our lord
Fincher is a master.
OMG..."Inside Man" - I can't believe that this great movie got its deserved recognition!
Hii lis 😘😘😘
God damn I screamed when se7en came up, the forever masterpiece. The girl with the dragon tattoo would be another good film to mention
I thought for sure Rififi would be in there somewhere. At least it got a mention. High and Low, basically the blueprint for the modern crime procedural, was completely MIA.
#1 Justin Bieber:Never Say Never.
Crime: Ever being made.
Reservoir Dogs still > Pulp Fiction
Gravitynaut thank u !
Agreed
You should make a "What's the Difference?" featuring Ichi the Killer.
8:46 should've waited for Baby Driver
Bilal Hemat yeah that's why i suggested it
Entertaining, sure, but best at anything.... no. I mean Rashoman was edged out. As was Twelve Angry Men. Please educate thyself.
the narration and script for this series is flawless!!
Al Pacino sounded way different when he was younger. I think it was the smoking
Or maybe he was doing a different accent on purpose
If you've seen Dog Day Afternoon, everybody in the movie talks that way. It's the most New York movie ever
Hells yes for Ichi the Killer!
L.A confidential ?
Absolutely brilliant list and I acknowledge that it would be impossible to mention every single great movie crime, but I still feel like The Great Escape and Shawshank Redemption deserved nods in your "escape" category.
Do one about music for your next one
Based on the comments here they should really expand this to "The Top 1000 Movie Crimes of All Time."
