Can't wait to put my Lake District video together. I can promise it'll be the best video on my channel with some of my best photography ever! Such incredible and varying conditions we had those four days :D
12:00 oh no My profile pic for many years was me on a cliff in the twilight with some mist in the valley before the background mountains all framed by a big old gnarly tree looping up and over the scene. I climbed the hill after the bushfires a couple of years back hoping for the best and found nothing left but a charred stump laying across the rocks. It's strange how some things can affect you.
I came in for lunch after a morning of pursuing fall color in highly variable light, ripe for a lesson on how to make the most of such conditions. Lunch finished, video too, back at it. Thanks for the instruction and inspiration!
I love your videos and I like this concept of what can you do when it's the middle of the day but I really like to hear your thoughts of days that are cloudless and bright. When I go on vacation I get one day at a place and I'm there taking photos regardless of what the weather is (unfortunately I tend to be unlucky and its cloudless and bright). I'm still learning and still working on compositions but I feel like all I hear is, just don't take photos during those times and that doesn't seem like the answer.
Thanks again Nigel. I'm new to your Channel and I'm really enjoying it. Very inspirational. I live on the west coast of Vancouver Island and this time of year it is very rainy, stormy etc. In fact we just lost power for over 24 hours because the storm knocked it out. I don't have a fantasy camera I have a Panasonic bridge camera and I've come to realize that it is excellent for landscape travel etc. Around here there is so much wildlife that I keep thinking that's what I should be taking pictures of but I'm always failing. Best to go back out into landscape. Is different here on the West coast though because we have so many trees. Dense trees not deciduous ones like you do but the light still comes through. Very dark especially this time of year. Look forward to the next one!
Wonderful video, Nigel. I’ve gotten 90% of my best images in fast-changing light. It’s stressful and it’s frantic, but the results speak for themselves. 👍🦘
Looks like those trips out with Mads and James has done wonders for you Nigel following your back situation and downtime. Some stunning images of the changing light!
I' really enjoy the videos where some of my favorites get together. I know I'm in for a lot of fun. Mads is always laughing about something and James is the consummate cynic and you are the voice of reason! Great work.
Love that right when you're talking about having the subject (yourself) and the grasses in the front in full sun with the background in shade......you somehow managed to instantly get the sun to cooperate and demonstrate the effect. Now that's a pro? Around the 8:00 mark.
Great Video Nigel, great to see you are a lot more mobile than a few months ago & that you are getting back out & capturing such beautiful images, whilst also giving people like me (hobbyist) motivation & things to consider in all weather conditions. nice to also See Mads & James presenting there work from your days out together.
I love the way the rain added drama and light separation to the amazing scenery. Great images as always. So sorry to hear that the strong windy conditions damaged your lens, though. I can empathise, after going for a costly bike ride on our local rough trail, when a padded top box didn’t protect my expensive 300mm zoom lens. It took almost 10 months during 2020/21 to get it back after and £1800 repair, being passed through several parts of the world! Ouch!
Thanks Nigel. You demonstrated very well how a single scene can be changed in a matter of moments by the natural lighting conditions caused by the broken clouds and a bit of wind.
Great video, Nigel, thank you. As a new, very amateur landscape photographer I feel like I’m constantly told I need to go out in the golden hours. But, as someone with a full time job it’s not always possible. This video was very reassuring.
You bagged so many amazingly atmospheric images. Well done for sticking with it. I will definitely be looking to venture out in more wild and wet conditions.
Such a wonderful video, especially for those of us who detest rising up an hour or two before the Sun. Amazing compositions.....I learn so much from the videos of all three of you.. It looked like by the size of Mads and James's packs, that they were ready to camp for a week. 😊
Lovely video Nigel. I've just come back from the Lakes and due to the conditions I was forced into shooting through the day. Agree, transient light can give some great opportunities for shooting. Also created a blog on my Squarespace site. Hope the back is getting better...
Really enjoying this series with you, Mads and James. Really nice to see you out climbing hills and taking longer hikes again! One of the (many) things I like about your videos is that you show a lot of photos that did NOT work and explain why...very instructive. Just bought your new woodlands ebook. Glad I did. Went out in the rain today and got some shots I'm very happy with.
Sorry for your lens :/ by the way this made me think about one issue I'm experiencing recently. These last years I've been starting to walk around with some moderately expensice gear. It's not even that expensive compared to what's on the market but I realized going around with a couple thousand euros of equipment is making me somewhat anxious in many circumstances and especially traveling abroad outside europe. It might be intresting to know how you assure your equipment in case of accidental damage and tefth and what you would suggest on this matter. It's not a very discussed theme in the photographers community. Sorry if I made some spelling mistakes. My english is far from perfect. Keep up with the good work :3
Here in the USA, I have a business insurance policy for my equipment. It's called an inland marine policy and I deduct the premium as a business operating expense.
Would be really cool if all photography youtubers would put also time of day the photo was taken. I think it more important than focal length and shutter speed.
Actually not really. Because the sunlight is only for that moment, on that day, at that time. You could come to the same spot at exactly the same time each year and the lighting could be different, so it has little relevanency in that regard. However, I do know what you're getting at, but looking at the lighting patterns I believe you can sort of figure where the light might be based on the angle of the shadows (if there are any).
There were a few moments, Nigel, where your content suggested a music choice "Here comes the rain again" you said literally (Eurythmics had a song called that). Another moment you talked about being in rim light (Eryka Badu "Rimshot" - that may be beyond appropriateness with all its funkin' jazz - but then it may be totally harmless, I'm not a native speaker of her English). In terms of royalties or legal court cases they're no doubt in the "keep on dreaming" class.
Wonderful as usual Nigel. I can't wait for the print pack and i hope it's something i can justifying afford haha. I did want to mention one thing, the part around the 5:00 mark where you had the two images that you said had interesting light but you didn't think they really work because you don't know exactly where your eyes should go, i think that's okay sometimes, take a photo that has you explore the entire frame and appreciate the vastness and beauty of the whole image, especially the one on the right with the contrasty light, i thought it was a beautiful exploratory image. Also the image where you highlighted mads with the contrasty background, just great. Keep it up my dude 🤘
I had to stop this video so I could go out in my yard and practice. And, when it came to photographing that spider in my backyard, light was a real challenge. True confession: I did better with the D850 with the 105 than I did with the Z9 and the 70-200.
Hi Nigel, another very interesting video and thanks for sharing. Super images once more, but sorry to hear your lens took a tumble, that's got to be expensive. I'd have been gutted! It'd take me a year to afford a new one .. but hopefully you've got insurance to cushion the effect. Keep up the good work.
Hi guys, beautiful and interesting video. Can you share the exact days and month you were there? I'll be travelling to the Lakes next autumn and would like to see what is the best period to visit.
You could have called this episode Poltergeist...."come into the light" 😂 your bowl shot is way better than the one I got shooting all the way across Loch Lomond earlier this year, in similar conditions
There is NO TRICK TO IT .. Just get up out of Bed and make the most of it ... ffs 1 Take Pics that make you happy ... not to make those on Social Media Happy

You guys are adorable, I'm sending you many virtual hugs :3
Buzzing for it Mads! Can’t wait
Isolating subjects (elements) is I love my Nikon 70-200mm. (Thanks for the recent update about the calendar shipment.)
Thank you :)

5:22 those light rays. Oh my word
OMG - James with a tripod! Thanks for another inspirational video Nigel

What an amazing video! Really impressive how much you were able to get out of such a short trip & share with us! Thank you!

Awesome! I’ve learned a lot. I’m just a beginner and didn’t dare going out to take pictures in this kind of weather. Thank you.
Wonderful! A joy to watch. Good vibes!
Oh My - beautiful video. Love the photo of the light rays into the valley bowl.
So sad about your lens!

Great shots and tips!
Welcome to Standard time and all the confusion that comes with it. Nice rainbow. 👍🥂

Great stuff and well explained. Just reading your Woodland Guide and will be trying it out later this week. Thank you. 👍👏
The opening rainbow also has a secondary rainbow visible at the top of the frame!
Fab video - stunning light and super images. More inspiration for me to get out regardless of the weather! Thank you so much
Such a beautiful area! You make me want to cross the pond for a visit!
Loved this video. So many amazing and beautiful images - I don't think I could pick a favorite.
Lovely images. I'd say that is what is meant "painting with light" Don't get any better, Brilliant!
Fantastic video once again. Thank you for your enthusiasm and your expert commentary as you take your pictures.

Great video. The B roll showing the light changing every second was so good to explain the challenges. Ouch to the lens though!

Really enjoyable video Nigel, the varying conditions looked fantastic as were the images
Great video Nigel, did like the robin clip just in time for Christmas 🎅

You did great!

Great video, and fantastic images. I must have been going around buttermere the same time as you. I've only just dried out.
Great Video, again. You inspired me, just like James and Mads do. Look forward to every new Video. Btw, Ordered the recoomended Kase Filters , thanks

It’s crazy how subjective photography is. Some of the shots he said didn’t quite work were awesome to me and captured an exact mood that I would want.
1:44- by chance, the photo is good, it is very good balanced by framing, so in my opinion this picture is work quite well. 👍

I wished where i lived was greener. I live in the desert.
In here, we can shoot daytime october - March. But anything June-August the sun is way too harsh..
Get CPL and ND filters 🤌 Put together they won't work but depends on the sun angle and shutter speed you can swap them
Also, just wondering.. u guys can walk around like this. It’s a national park? Not private lands? And why there is no trees? Above 2000m altitude?
Sorry about the busted lens!
I'm jealous, because most of the area I live in consists of dense flat woodland.
amazing place, but I'm worried what happened to you camera after?
I feel silly - it's probably obvious, but I can find the link to the blog you talked about in this video. ?
Sorry - my mistake it is there now
At about 8 minutes, looks like a mine shaft opening on the side of the hill. What would they be looking for?
Squarespace seems nice, but with no LRC plugin it is a nonstarter for me.
Shooting in the middle of the day at the back of Brisbane doesn't quite look like that LOL
We all knew Nigel can summon fog. But he can summon rainbows too?
Awesome video, thanks a lot. My favorite part ruclips.net/video/4CF5nhwusVQ/видео.html You are literally in beautiful shot. Love it!
Mads makes a dance? How do you call those Scandinavian gnomes again? Don't they do these dances to demand rain or rainbows from their gods?
3:03 - trolls photo bombing the video?
There is NO TRICK TO IT .. Just get up out of Bed and make the most of it ... ffs
