Whew made it. As I'm using the newest F360 and toolbar has changed, I learned from Lars Christensen that if you go to Preferences->General, check Use Old Toolbar and that makes it easier to follow your tutorial. Also, I kept trying to get the extrude+cut on the top of the bottle to work but couldn't so I really had to pay attention to your instructions and the I believe that the difference was the horizontal constraint may be what made it work...finally. Well...on to Day 3 :-) And thanks for these videos.

You can enable the Appearances menu with the keyboard shortcut (A), additionally you can right click the bottle in the browser and select Appearances, as well as find it under the Modify menu.

Kev two things that would make this helpful for people as I was fumbling around till I got it. First remind people if they don't save the file then they are unable to calibrate the image to add the points to the boundary. Second when you are adding the dimension of 9mm to the top and adding the constraint to make sure the line from the center of the bottle to the other splice point is only selected. Because that is where you can constrain the line to horizontal/vertical axis. Hope this helps others.

Once you replace it with a regular line you'll be able to proceed without any issues.

These videos are great. I wasn't able to sketch the circle onto the top of the bottle - I assume Fusion didn't think my bottle top was coplanar to an axis because of the way it was traced? As a workaround, I made an offset plane there. Looking forward to day 3.

I know you figured out an alternate solution, but the reason it wasn't working was because of how you created your spline line. When I first did this, I connected the spline line to the first point on the axis line in the center of the bottle, instead of creating that second line like he did.

Did a quick look through your interface change tutorial, but didn't see anything about what happened to "Appearance", found it in the Render Workspace on Render Tab, Setup dropdown. Switching back to old toobar UI, not allowed anymore, btw.
I cannot imagine the work needed to keep up with all the product changes, thanks so much for your efforts!

Hi, Vince. I'm assuming you're looking to change the appearance of the bottle to glass? If so, simply hit the keyboard shortcut letter "A" to activate the Appearances dialog. Then, you'll be able to search for the "glass" appearance and drag and drop that onto your bottle.
It certainly is a challenge (and frustrating at times) but I do my best to mitigate the issues and to keep the tutorials relevant for as long as possible. Cheers, Kevin :)

Hello; Great Video. I ran into an issue that someone else mentioned below, with the SHELL feature not letting me select anything, I went back and re-did the model several times with no change. I also seem to be having issues with the 9mm line at the top not working correctly, changes the shape of my bottle or creates an angle, I believe this does have something to do with constraints. Also since I'm not able to shell out the bottle I'm not able to finish out the design with hole at top due to no body for my extrude to connect with. I'm learning 360 so I'm sure its probably simple issues I'm probably looking over. I'm using the newest version of 360 Student addition V2.0.7830. Thanks.

Hi, RobotBobUSA. Can you check what color the revolve command is in your timeline? If it is ORANGE then you used the surface revolve command. You'll need to undo that and use the BLUE solid modeling revolve command. The shell won't work with a surface body, as it's already just the outer surfaces.
In regards to the 9mm line at the top, check to make sure your vertical dividing line of the bottle got an automatic vertical constraint applied to it. If not, you'll need to add one.

    • @robotbobusa2479

@@ProductDesignOnline Looks like that was my issue, I did not choose the correct revolve feature! Thanks so much for getting back to me on this, even though I had moved on to your next couple of videos, it was bugging me that I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong! In regards to the 9mm line it seemed to work this time, but I was unable to add vertical constraint, and I could not see were vertical constraint was add, but I was so happy to be able to shell out the form and finish the bottle that I didn't go back to figure the line situation out, at this time. Thanks again for all the help.
I'm starting on day 6 tonight. I was taught some 3D modeling in Tech school using Mastercam, but this Fusion 360 is so much easier to work with!

Quick question, when I try make the hole in the top of the bottle I can't select that plane at the top of the bottle, only in the middle. Is there a way I can change this?

      Same here

    • @ProductDesignOnline
      @ProductDesignOnline  4 года назад

First thing, would be to look at the sketch and make sure the top surface is completely flat. You can add a "Horizontal/Vertical" constraint to ensure it's Horizontal. If a surface isn't planar or completely flat, then it will not allow you to select it.

I'm a complete beginner with no prior exposure to the design/engineering world so It took me several tries but I made it through. I downloaded the personal use version on 1/6/21 and I guess the latest version UI is quite different from what you used when making the video. So I spent a lot of time searching to find things or looking for equivalent steps. Also when I adjusted the bottle top to 9mm it put the bottle off center so the final hole cut procedure was off. I went back and removed the 9mm and left it at original dimension and that fixed it and I was able to finish the exercise.

I had to redo this as well. If you trace the top of the bottle too accurately, it will have a rounded top surface that can not be extruded. Make the top of the bottle as flat as possible so you can extrude your hole. That just sounds wrong...

Hey Cian, I had the same problem. It is most likely because you used the "Revolve" from the "Surface" Orange menu instead of the "Solid" Blue Menu. You can tell if you did this because the icon next to the body will be a orange revolve symbol instead of the typical white cylinder symbol. Just delete the orange revolve in your timeline and do it again with the Solid Revolve.

I've tried to go through twice and every time I get to the shell portion (which worked fine with the lego in the first lesson) It will not let me select body1 from the upper left, so I have an object to shell. I was with you all the way up until there and then I figured I missed something so I went back and started a new page and when I get to the shell portion it will not let me select it once again. Im sure its a setting technicality or the like, but any advice on where to look would help me out greatly. I got stuck on this on day 2 and the day 1 lego following step by step I was stuck for a bit on the bottom offset circle becoming tangent with the extrusions on top, and extruding the offset circle also didn't work the first time. It's a good thing you take your time and explain these lesson step by baby step otherwise I could see people losing interest in this program for being hung up on these small technicalities, even if it is for just a bit.
