I have the 14 GM and LOVE IT. My travel combo is the 14/1.8, 35/1.4 and 85/1.8 with my A7R5, which covers most of my needs and requires only a small backpack and light tripod.
I have the Sony14mm that I use for real estate photography and I love it. It's a great lens and I look forward to trying it out on some astrophotography soon.
Wow, what an easy sub. Great video, I'm looking forward to watching more of your content. I just ordered the 14mm GM, it should work great with my A7iv.
Yea i have the 14GM too. Its so light small and sharp enough for most use. Such that I just skip the 16-35. I just crop abit from the 14gm if i need to. Then for longer reach i just use the other primes or 24-70.
I use the 12-24 all the time for architecture in the cities I visit , Kyoto, Tokyo, Reykjavik, HK, Taipei were the most recent where it came in clutch at 12, and 24, also recommend the 24-70 GM II, for its stellar sharpness and lightweight travel lens. Picked up the 50 1.2 in HK at a great discount with the US warranty and this is my current carry around kit. The 12-24 has the limitation for filters though, thats where the 16-35 or 14 GMs will be easier to deal with for ND grads etc. for landscape.
I love my A7C, Tamron 17-28mm and 28-75mm. I wish I had some fast primes, but for me I'm just trying to get all my primary photography and video lens requirements in two, sometimes three lenses.
Howsit Spencer, I love using my 12-24 GM although I hate lugging around a 150mm filter kit! I do also own the 14GM, I do have a Nisi adapter for it that allows use of the 100mm system! So a little less weight to carry around…😂
The big problem with a prime lens such as the 14mm GM is that at such focal lengths, each mm does a big difference in composition. At 12mm maybe the subject is too far away and lost in the background, but maybe at 18 could be perfect. Having a zoom for an ultrawide lens is really amazing. I'd prefer the 12-24 for landscape photography rather than the 14mm, but for astro yea the 14mm however is an awesome lens.
Agreed. I have the 14mm - the lightness (I hike a lot into the backcountry and up mountains) and incredible sharpness are a joy to behold - combined with the incredibly light 16-35mm PZ, I don't think the weight and cost of 12-24mm is worth it. At least not for my use.
Spencer. Think 14 or 12-24 GM is better at a baseball stadium taking fireworks show? Thinking both will be at 2.8 or 3.2 at ISO 800 or 1600. Will be at Yankees stadium above press box. (Middle up from field in height). I want most of the aerial fireballs and both wings of the stadium. Would 14 be wide enough is my concern. I know my 16-35 GM would not be. Thanks
Yes our thoughts are similar. I’ve been using my Fujinon 16-55mm almost 90% of the time for landscapes and if I need a wider shot my Fujinon 14mm prime does the job. Awesome vlog Spencer 🙏🏼
I have the 14GM but I don't do anything with it, was a gift from a girl I was dating... I'll bring it on holidays to Indonesia though for some landscape shots

any tripod will you recommended?
Nice, you have the exact same travel lens combo than me. However, I have a A7 III instead.

The 14mm is such a joy. To think going that wide was going to fish eye but surprisingly the barreling is worked out.

Great video. Great insights. I have a question...what do you do for. a living??
I work as a nurse full time but then do photography as a side hustle

Thanks, I’ve been debating these lenses and I do astrophotography. I’m getting the 14mm

I didn’t even know 14mm f1.8 even existed. Thanks for enabling my curiosity 😅
Sigma has an even crazier 14mm f/1.4 DG DN that's optically fantastic... if you don't mind the huge size and weight.

Also as smoke and maybe beer will splash onto the front lens. What have you used to wipe the glass that works for you?
Cool video! You sure no regrets selling the 12-24? 🤙
Lol nope
the thumbnail haha - great video. those scenes are breathtaking

Thanks much man!
Great video Spencer! Hope to see more like it!
My 14mm GM is the only lens I've ever sold that I wish I still had.
I have the 14GM but I don't do anything with it, was a gift from a girl I was dating... I'll bring it on holidays to Indonesia though for some landscape shots
How do you set your camera settings for the timelapse if the light changes from bright to dark to bright and so on? Do you use auto iso?
Auto iso only when the scene is really dark… but otherwise mostly aperture priority
24 1.4 14 1.8 gm user.but I always think sigma 14 1.4 is better at 1.4 1.8 vs 14 1.8 gm
I gotta get my hands on that sigma to see if the 1.4 makes a big difference, and it worth the extra weight
have you tried the Sigma 14-24?
not yet... I haven't had a need to use a ultra wide zoom since switching to the 14mm, but I would love to hear your thoughts!
@@spencerlee808 you, should rent it and make a vid.
Viltrox 16 1.8 is less than half the price of the 14GM though.
Doesn’t really compare to the gm but is a good budget option.
