  • Senators' Misa named OHL Cup Powered by Under Armour MVP
Mississauga Senators underage forward Michael Misa is the 2022 OHL Cup Powered by Under Armour MVP, leading his club to its first OHL Cup title with a newly established event record 20 points over seven contests.
Misa has been awarded the Tim Adams Memorial Trophy, given annually to the Most Valuable Player of the Minor Midget showcase.
"All of those superstars, those are guys I model my game after," said Misa, when asked what it's like to have his name among elite company in Connor McDavid and Shane Wright following his impressive OHL Cup performance. "They push me to get better and I want to be like them in the future."
The 2007-born Oakville, Ont. native put together the first hat trick in OHL Cup Championship history, also establishing a new single game points record in the Final with five. Misa assisted on a third period goal by teammate Bode Stewart to give him 10 goals, 10 assists and 20 points, surpassing Connor McDavid's 2012 event benchmark. The 20 points are more than any player since 2003 when the OHL Cup Showcase introduced its current format.
After posting two assists in the club's Wild Card Play-In victory over Ajax-Pickering, Misa proceeded to record points in six of his seven games, with multi-point outputs in each instance. He had two goals and two assists in an 11-4 win over the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs and had three points against Elgin-Middlesex, as well as in Quarter-Final action against London and Semi-Final success against the Markham Majors.
Misa finished tied for the showcase lead in shots on goal with 31 and won 52 of his 83 face-offs, good for a 62.7 success rate.
He becomes the first Mississauga Senators player to earn the award, and follows Wright (2019) and McDavid (2012) as the third underage player to claim showcase MVP honours.

Well, He'll be 2025's 1st overall pick. I'd like Bedard's cousin Gavin McKenna for the Blackhawks in 2026. McKenna has exxceptional status.

Always skeptical about these Nolan Patrick/Shane Wright/Alexis Lafreniere types. Misa, like the aforementioned trio, gives me the impression that he will not be the superstars that Patrick, Wright and Lafreniere were hyped up to be. None of them have elite physical attributes. No blazing speed (McDavid), no deadly shot (Bedard), no caged-bull in the corners (Crosby). Just another in a growing line of disappointing Canadian players that have been coming out of the CHL lately. I was wrong about Patrick after his pre-draft 100 point season in the WHL for Brandon. I was wrong about Wright after scoring 39 goals as a 15/16 year old in a shortened season in the OHL. I was wrong about Lafreniere after being the back-to-back CHL player of the year. Misa gives me the same vibes as those three players. No stand out quality, no blazing speed, no deadly shot, or deadly in the corners (McDavid/Bedard/Crosby). Shame. The new NHL is predicated on speed, speed and more speed; a high motor and at least one notable attribute that will separate them at the NHL level. Unlike Misa/Wright/Patrick/Lafreniere, I think Bedard has attributes that will separate him from that pack. He is shifty, elusive, unpredictable. He is fully aware that defenseman over commit to trying to cover his shot and knows how to give quick passes to his open line mates. He will enter the NHL with a top 3 shot. In fact, I would go so far as to say that Bedard is the best pure goal scoring prospect Canada has had since Mike Bossy (Heatley was good but broke down too fast too soon, was never a burner either). Better than Stamkos, too, in goal scoring terms (though, Stamkos was right their with Crosby in 2013-14 before breaking his leg. He had the potential to be so much more if not for that injury). I think Bedard has Patrick Kane/Joe Sakic level potential with the possibility to reach McDavid/Crosby level (in terms of offensive potential, not play style). McKenna is a burner and elite at both scoring and playmaking. I like his odds of bucking the trend. Though gotta be weary about looking only at speed and shot combo, as well. Brayden Yager fits that description to a tee. I thought he was going to take the next step this year for Moose Jaw but his offense has been less than desirable. Sure, he's got speed for days with deadly wrist shot but the offense isn't quite there. At one point last year, I entertained, very briefly, that he might even challenge Bedard for the top pick. He was looking like the reincarnation of Nathan Mackinnon last year in spurts here and there. But he never took that next step this year, unlike Bedard who has been incredible.

Bro just typed a novel 😂 but I actually agree with you I don't see Misa living up to superstar hype. For me his biggest stand out quality is his positioning and hockey iq. He always finds the open pockets of space and capitalizes on his opportunities.
