It wasn't so much Dylan mulvaney. It's more about what the marketing VP said a couple months before that. Alissa Heinerscheid was interviewed saying that Bud light drinkers were too old, too white and problematic. She wanted to replace what she thought was a dying aging customer with younger trans diverse people. She also thought it was problematic that it was mostly a male brand and she wanted to make it more for women and trans people. I think her words turned people off more than the Bud light can. It's the same mistake Disney has been making with their movies trying to pander to activist groups who do not buy their products. They put ESG and DEI over the core customer. Once you insult the customers it's very hard to get them back especially when your product is mediocre to begin with.

Many would have also been well aware of the current controversy when they took the test and so may have already formed a negative opinion.

But Jessica is factually incorrect that they apologized. They did not. What they really did is what she suggested they should've done: said "we send cans to everyone, it wasn't a promotional deal, it wasn't a big deal". So, her research into the events is poor. Considering that's her entire job, I think criticism is appropriate. Bud never apologized. They tried to appease both sides of the aisle and stay neutral. It's also insane to say you don't think the Mulvaney incident is responsible...you had Bud talking through it on investment calls, you had crisis management, you had downstream supply chain members freaking out at the sudden disappearance of their business...
What could be a more obvious example of cause and effect? What evidence would be more obvious than the evidence already on the table? It's not about evidence for ideologues, they will make the evidence for what they already believe. Even obvious things become non-obvious. Bud knows what caused this...there is no doubt they have spent an enormous amount of time doing post-mortem and figuring out how to avoid it again.

Besides, we have all heard the interviews with the J chick responsible for the campaign, and she clearly stated it was a marketing campaign.

To date they have lost around $25 Billion, meanwhile Walmart keeps making more money (hence it's not the market). The Target CEO has reported quarterly earnings calls that their losses are largely due to the boycott.

What's funny to me is Bud doesn't give a rip about the trans community. It was an ill conceived marketing ploy to gain market share. If a corporation is saying "we proudly support (insert special interest group)" it's because they've done the math and are targeting a consumer group they believe will spend money. They have a fiduciary duty to the share holders above anything. Even Disney would change their progressive tune if "their values" started to negatively effect their stock prices.

But I hope consumers continue to get educated and continue to spend dollars with companies that do good. And the result will be a checks and balance. Buy local, help small businesses and the mega corps will have to fall in line if they want to be profitable. There should be no politics in corporations. There should be a desire to ethically provide quality services and products.
