Cody Carnes is a worship leader and songwriter whose passion is to create a meeting place for God and people with music. He spends most of his time traveling and leading worship with his wife Kari Jobe Carnes. The couple have cowritten numerous songs together including "Closer To Your Heart," "The Garden" and "Lover Of My Soul" from her album The Garden and "Let The Heavens Open" from her album Majestic. Cody also wrote "The Cross Has The Final Word" - a hopeful, declarative anthem about the overcoming power of Jesus' name. I am a 19 year old girl from New Jersey. I grew up in the church as my dad was a pastor. This past year I have never strayed farther from God. Was on a bunch of drugs, doing my own thing, while in the car with a friend of mine who is an atheist and this song started playing on his phone. I grew up in the streets, the streets raised me and made me a gangsta, I was a blood, I sold dope. Been in shoot outs, fights, in and out of jail since age 17, I robbed people and got robbed. I was a drunkard, fornicator, I use to club and pop pills, but i had a encounter with JESUS while in jail facing 5-10 years.. and JESUS made me over again at age 23.. 8yrs later hallelujah I'm still free and born again, still filled with the Holy Ghost.. JESUS is a mighty deliverer bless his Holy name NOTHING else will do

I’d like to share a testimony about something that happened to me today but before I tell you the what I need to explain the why. I am a husband and a father of 3. One of which is my daughter whom is 11 y/o and was diagnosed with autism at 18 months. As you can imagine life has been a struggle for my wife and I and there have been moments of tears, fear, doubt, anger and resentment all directed towards God. I’ve always considered myself a Christian on paper but in practice not so much. Ok, with that out of the way let me explain what happened today. So I have been humming this specific song for a few days without really knowing the lyrics, or who sings it. I was sitting at home this afternoon and my 2 sons were upstairs watching a movie so it was just my daughter and I downstairs. I decided to open RUclips and search for this song and I found this video. After a minute or so I went over to my piano and started playing along. I don’t know when exactly I lost the notion of space and time but while I was “lost” I heard the voice of God clear as day. Some people say it sounds like thunder, some say it’s a deep booming echo. For me though it sounded like wind. I speak multiple languages but it wasn’t a language, I can’t explain it but I knew 1,000% it was God and he said just five words. It’s going to be alright. I only shot back to reality when my daughter sat on my lap, gave me a hug and asked why I was crying. I told her Jesus was talking to me. She went on to explain that she heard and watched me playing the piano and at some point I stopped, put my elbows on the keys, my face in my hands and just started crying and after a few minutes she decided to walk over and sit on my lap. The funny thing is I don’t recall any of it. I am 48 years old and I’ve never heard the voice of God until today and my life will never be the same.

I just want to tell God that I’m sorry for treating Him like Someone who needs to bless me because of the service I gave Him and the years I spent following Him. Christianity is not about God’s blessings but about a loving relationship with Jesus - sadly I missed the whole point of Christianity. I was all about serving Him and sacrifice for Him that I totally forgot that God is my Father who loves me so.
Once again, forgive me Lord for chasing Your blessings rather than Your heart! May I be able to know Your heart and yearn for You like I did when I first heard Your call! May You find glory in my life King Jesus!

As I was driving home earlier, this song played.
The whole 2020 I was making up my own shell, where I told myself I wouldn't show anyone how weak, how broken, how dilapidated I was becoming.
How faithless and how lacking of hope I was.
How I felt defeated at everything I did.
How much pain I was hiding beneath my laughter and joking manner.
How serving in the house no longer brought joy.
That shell that I kept all this in, was void of anything that was from God.
I stayed in it, I kept those things close, so if anyone disappointed me, I wouldn't feel hurt, because I was already disappointed at myself.
If anyone didn't want to talk to me, it was okay, because I couldn't stand looking myself in the mirror.
If nobody would ask me to hangout, it was okay, because I wouldn't wanna hang with myself either.
If nobody would love me, it was okay, I had no love for myself.
Before I knew it, I was in this cesspool of self-pity and self-destruction, and for a moment, I was comfortable in it.
Like nothing could take me down, because I was already rock bottom.
Most nights I would hug my Bible and cry, praying for that first encounter to come again.
It never did, I never felt anything, and that cycle kept on going.
I read the Bible but nothing sank in, nothing made sense.
Why was I going through all this? Why did God allow me to sink so deep into this darkness?
But I realised something towards the end of the year.
All I did was about me. Never about God.
I always let myself down, because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to please God. I made that an excuse to not even try, to never give my best, because what was the point.
I came to the point where I never wanted it to come, that serving became such a routine, that I could sing and dance, but the next day, the words sung meant absolutely nothing.
I distanced myself from people when I could because I felt I had to, I wasn't feeling myself, so every time I was out and about, I felt I was playing a character, I was fiction.
Don't get me started on feeling loneliness, cause I won't, all of us fight those battles.
All these while, I was looking inwards, at my own reflection and not Christ.
All I saw was hopelessness, dread, sadness, pain, loneliness.
But no matter how many times I ran, God in His everlasting and never ending love would come running.
In my eyes, I was not deserving of anything from God, I was a fugitive that deserved death.
Yet, the Judge, the King that could order a life to end, instead breathe life into my dead heart.
Yes. I'm sorry Lord, for thinking I wasn't good enough to live.
That dying seemed like a better solution most days.
I'm sorry those thoughts even pass momentarily.
This is my advise to you.
Do not look into yourself for answers or revelations, they will all lead to meaningless.
Look to Christ for meaning and purpose, and you will find a beating heart again.
I am starting over. And I pray everyday I wake up is a new start.
And I pray for you as well.
May you seek the Lord with all your strength, soul and heart.

I’ve felt exactly like this lately. And I’ve looked at myself like “why am I such a failure?! Why would He love me? What’s wrong with me? What’s the point?”
Something told me to sit outside and listen to worship music, and thankfully, after a couple other songs, I came across this one and read your comment.
The words pierced through the tough exterior I’ve built and spoke directly to my broken heart. I sat here in tears but not tears of sadness. Tears of revelation. Tears of joy for a relentless Father Who pursues us to the ends of the earth. No matter how far we’ve ran, our Father paces the horizon, excitedly awaiting our return to Him.
My soul has been in such turmoil the past few months, but today is the day of change. Today is the day to rejoice!

When I was reading your words, I felt a bit of familiarity. It sounded like what I went through in late 2019 to 2020. I am so glad that you shared your story. The first time I heard this song it was sent to me while in hospital recovering from a massive drug overdose which landed me in a coma. I chased drugs secretly while being Christian thinking it was the answer to my internal pain. The line nothing else will do I just want you has deep meaning now as he saved me from certain death as I did tap out on the hospital several times but he kept me as undeserving as I was.

We started a church 2 years ago with no denominational help. It was just my wife and I and my stepdaughter. We’ve grown to about 30 people but there have been many trials and tribulations along the way. Last Friday night I went down to do our PowerPoint for Sunday service and I have the PA turned on and this song came on. I felt the Lord just telling me, forget about the PowerPoint, just spend time with me. This song takes you to the throne room.

I can watch this video over and over again. When you go to a concert like this, it’s because you know exactly what’s going to happen. Your going to go and lift your hands for the duration of the time, cry your eyes out, and worship all night. It’s almost like a huge altar and your leaving all of your burdens right there. And when you leave you feel drained but in a good way, you feel lighter because you just released so much of yourself to God. You’ll get the best rest you’ve had in a long time and when you wake up you will be revitalized, rejuvenated, brand new and like you can do anything, you can keep going and you can be everything God called you to be. These types of events are... so necessary. I can use one right about now (if you haven’t noticed 😉 ). 🙌✌️ 💜

God just used this song to rededicate my life back to Him. I went through a time of hating and blaming God for everything I’ve gone through. I had crippling anxiety that halted and ruined my life for years… I just couldn’t understand why God would do this to a girl who has loved and served Him all her life, instead of seeing blessings I felt like I was being punished. My life was literally trial after trail after trail… I began to blame God and stared to rebel.. all while still being a worship leader!? All the songs I would sing were empty because I had no spiritual life whatsoever.
As I was looking for songs for this Sundays set list, I stumbled across this song. I’ve heard it before, but boy does it hit more when you actually understand and feel each lyric on a personal level.
I broke down and deep down, I knew God wanted me back and wanted me to start a new beginning with Him. Knowing that all this pain and trails in my life are lessons that God used to take me to the place that the wants me to be.
But as for now, nothing else matters.. I just need and want more of Him. I need Him to fill me up again and saturate me with this love ,forgiveness and His presence once again.
