I've made 10 crossings/cruises and I never had any negative issues. There was so much to do I needed many days to try everything. There were so many choices for food, I needed all those days to try those too. The benefits to no ports was I could sleep in without having to get up early to catch an excursion.

Agree 100%. I just started cruising but by January I will have done 4 crossings in 21 months (April 2022, June 2023, November 2023, January 2024). Being able to stay up late and sleep in is definitely a plus. For me, the longer the cruise the bigger the ship has to be (and vice versa). That way you always find things to do.

Plenty of relax time and to enjoy every inch of the ship. The people didn’t bother me, my resting bitch face is strong when needed.

I think someone would have to be quite picky or jaded to get terribly bored with the variety the ships make available. In everyday life, I would typically be fine with just what's on the buffet, mainly a good salad and simple meat with a simple side or two. Anything else is a bit of an indulgence, so I never get bored.

I like the "things you'll hate on an x cruise" videos. Like with the ones you did for Virgin, it helped me realize that I'd actually probably enjoy a Virgin cruise. Everything I heard before was that it's only good for the young party people, but you showed it's not because those negatives are things that I would be fine with. As near as I can tell, the only thing I wouldn't particularly like about a transatlantic is how few ports there are. Not because the ports themselves matter to me but I like it when half the ship gets off! But still, that wouldn't keep me from doing it.

On our recent transatlantic cruise to Italy, we had six 23-hour days. It's more of an inconvenience than anything else. It feels like you're sleeping in each morning and always having breakfast later than planned. But on a sea day, you don't have to worry about being late for your excursion. You do arrive in Europe, fully adjusted to the time difference.

Took my first transatlantic on Enchanted Princess last month from Florida to Barcelona & I strongly disagree about the food. Princess did a FANTASTIC job of making sure food was not repeated over 14 days and the food was EXCELLENT! The things that were a Debbie Downer specifically for the crossing:
    1. No internet connection for 8 days!
    2. Solo passenger with no one solo in my age demographic
    3. Time change every day 1 hour ahead.
    4. Entertainment was geared to an older audience & the DJ sucked.

When you sign up for a transatlantic cruise you know you're going to have a lot of sea days. When I sailed from Southampton to Spain, Portugal and then across the Atlantic to Miami, I did worry about those eight days with no ports, it ended up being amazingly relaxing. I was on the maiden voyage of Carnival Celebration and there were so many food options, I didn't really have a problem with repetitive dining options. I have another transatlantic planned for October of 2024 out of Barcelona and I'm so excited about it. I would have liked more than five port stops, but one thing I do like is there will be a stop in the Bahamas before going to Ft. Lauderdale.

The only thing that I've heard that may be an issue, is that the water gets rough at times, but I'm usually fine with Bonine, so think I'd be good 👍😊 And if the ship is big enough, I'm sure you could avoid those you want to.. I'm good at avoiding people on a small ship! #introvertskills😂 Plus, it would be great to have more time to just relax! Going to port after port, and trying to fit in all the fun stuff on the ship when on a shorter cruise, I need a vacation to recoup, so that sounds much more relaxing 😎😌

No ports? Well you have to pick the right itinerary. I just did a transatlantic cruise on Oceania from Miami. First, we spent a day in the Bahamas, then 1 sea day before docking at Bermuda. Then only 4 sea days before docking at the Azores, Portugal. Then 1 sea day before docking at Madeira, Portugal. Then 1 sea day before arriving in Malaga, Spain. Then it was basically a port each day before arriving in Civitavecchia (Rome). An awesome itinerary for a 16 day crossing. Bottom line - if it's all about the ship, then the number of sea days don't matter. But we prefer a balanced experience between what the ship has to offer, and the ports of call.

On one we had a 40ish guest who made the mistake of playing basketball in rough seas a day or two out of Ft L and he fell and broke his hip. Speaking of medical emergencies, on our TA on Wonder last November, a friend of ours slipped on a wet spot near a hottub and fell. Luckily, the captain just happened to walk by, so everything went really quick. The infirmary took great care of her, thankfully, she only had a painful bruise but nothing broken. They got her a wheelchair to use during the cruise and a cane she could keep. Best of all, there was no charge for it. Interestingly, after that incident, for the rest of the cruise, there were crew members stationed near all the hot tubs, cleaning up every puddle as soon as someone got out.

I love crossings. I've done 2 with 2 coming up. My 1st was April 2022 on Wonder, the largest ship in the world, just a few weeks after her debut - from Lauderdale, 14 days with 10 sea days to start and 4 Spanish ports ending in Barcelona. My 2nd was just a couple of weeks ago on NCL Getaway - from Canaveral, 12 days with only 2 ports (not counting GSC which was rained out) ending in Lisbon. They did the time changes at night. My 3rd will be in November on Enchantment - from Barcelona, 14 days with 3 ports ending in Tampa. And my 4th will be in January on NCL Joy, 10 days nonstop from Miami to London. I do agree that the food gets boring over time. The way I deal with it is by trying to meet people looking to have friends for dinner. The company makes me forget that I'm eating the same thing again. The biggest negative for me is more days to gain more pounds!

Took the QE2 NYC to Southampton (we called it a “crossing” ; ) many cruises, and even a container ship from Liverpool to Philly once. All were fabulous. Admittedly, the QE2 was 5 and 1/2 days if I recall right, and the container ship was 8-9. It’s weird, I love the port days on regular cruises, but also the feeling of ocean sailing that comes with the crossing. Just different mindsets, and lots more wind (speed) on the crossings I took (particularly the QE2). Never got bored on any of the crossings or cruises, with the food or otherwise.
The med thing is for real, but you just have to evaluate that first and make a reasonable call.

I’m sure something Chris wouldn’t say, is that as crew, depending on your schedule, you’ll have a few hours off here and there when the crew will often get off the ship, go to the beach, shop, eat out or something. Obviously, on a crossing, they never have a chance to get off the ship so they are stuck in their tiny crew cabins or in their not at all glamorous crew dining area and break space. So they are working long hours without ever really getting a chance to stretch out and relax

How was the starlink internet connection along the way? I'm looking at booking a cruise on the Symphony's return trip across the Atlantic and would love to know more about the internet coverage and quality as you get further away from land. Thanks and I look forward to your next Symphony video!

I would think that most transatlantic cruise with just a few port stops would have less passengers so less people would be better in my opinion.

I will be taking the Queen Mary 2 October, 2024 - NY to England with only 2 other ports - Germany and France round trip, 19 daysLove sea days. I don’t know how someone can sign-up for a trans-Atlantic cruise and then complain about how many sea days there are. Maybe you should sail American on the Great Lakes instead.

I wonder too if the time change being during the day is to keep the crew from having to lose an hour a day of sleep. That wouldn't be so hard for passengers, because we can sleep in. People working don't get that luxury.

It may also be so people aren’t confused in the morning. On the QM2 the captain would come over the announcement system and say what the new ships time was, but if people forget to change their clocks before going to bed they could wake up and be confused all day. This way everyone heard the announcement and could adjust at the same time.

Just returned from a 7-day cruise and am really feeling bad (sore throat cough, body aches, chills, etc.).Cruising is back (in a not so nice way - ships are full) and some groups have not learned the hard lessons from the pandemic. A certain demographic showed zero respect for spaces:
    1) The elevator door would open on a full cab and they would insist on getting in
    2) The elevator door would open and this group would race into the cab before people could exit
    3) It was so bad the captain had to make an announcement about courtesy using elevators
    4) Embarkation day was shameful as general guests ransacked the space for suite and premium guests
    5) The staff had to yell at this group because they did as they would not follow staff directions
    6) After one day attempting to use the buffet zone, I gave up and used room service/specialty dining as the spaces were extremely crowded at all settings throughout the day
7 On disembarkation many would leave the ship as self checkout but it was clear they placed their checked luggage out the door and were asking porters to find their luggage
We need cruise documents in multiple languages to prevent this mess in addition to staff onboard who speak languages in sympathy with those purchasing cruises. I am 90% sure I will do a ship within a ship (paying the higher rate to avoid this mess. I looked at this group and you could see in their behavior a sense of what they were doing was normal and not inconsiderate (in their minds).

@@rt66vintage16 If you are a suite customer, a special space is dedicated before boarding for these customers. They offer coffee/tea service and things to eat.

Curious, did you have the same issues with food that Ben & David mentioned in their video about this sailing? Mainly, repeatedly being served ice cold food in the MDR.

Our experience was a little different than B&Ds, but they were going to different activities than we were, and I think they also went to their meals at different times. Overall, the only time we felt crowded on the ship was at embarkation and debarkation.

Probably the only thing I hated (actually, more like disliked) was that Wonder only made a stop in Nassau, Coco Cay wouldn't have been much of a detour really and probably a much more fun place to spend shore leave after 8 days on the ocean. (Plus, the passengers would have spent their booze dollars with RCL instead of Senor Frogs in Nassau)

Don't like RCCL. Went on one cruise with them and it was pretty bad. Losing time isn't the worst thing. When in the military when I went to Europe when we landed the local time was several hours ahead of what my watch said. Yes, menus can repeat and many items would appear on menus. I am a person most people want to stay away from. Never been on a transatlantic cruise yet. But, have had several medical emergencies on other trips have been on. One thing I would like is many sea days. The crew does work hard. If Chris works on a different line I might bump into him at some point. Love to play in the casino. My late wife was looking forward to a transatlantic cruise after I retired.
