Jesus was doing a lot of fasting and praying here on earth.. Also he told the deciples that some things will only come out through fasting and prayer..
Hello my friend! Indeed Jesus did fast and pray a lot. However, he never told the disciples, "some things will only come out through prayer and fasting. What he said, in Matthew 17:21is, "Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting." The 'this kind' that he was referring to, when we examine the text is -- unbelief. Let's look at the some of the pretext below. v17 Jesus declares that they were *faithless* and perverse... v19 Disciples came to him asking why they couldn't cast the devil out. v20 Jesus said because of your UNBELIEF (and then begins talking about faith and if they had faith to devil out, it would have gone out of the child, because nothing is impossible to those who believe. So then, he's speaking to them about not believing (their unbelief). Hence: v21 this kind goeth not out.... This kind of what? This kind of unbelief, faithlessness goes out, goes away by prayer and fasting. AND certainly, when a believer fasts from food and feeds on the Word of God & prays, the believer will get built up in faith because he's taking in (hearing the Word, meditating upon the Word and aligning his beliefs with what God said/says.
