The scenic Southern Tier on the former Erie mainline brings lots of action with Conrail, NYS&W and Delaware & Hudson trains - and more! See some scenes from the early 1970s with a struggling Penn Central and its collection of old and eclectic diesels.
Learn the Conrail story that saved the rail industry by merging many failed roads into a first-class operation. Conrail was split up into parts of the NS and the CSX system in 1999. We bring it back to your screen!

It was enjoyable to watch trains UNTIL the disgusting graffiti began appearing in the 90's. I can hardly look at trains today.

Yeah, the graffiti is a real drag! Especially when you see how it used to be!

SOUTHERN RR retired CEO Stanley Crane became CEO of Conrail and it was a sinking railroad when he took it over. It sounds as if he upgraded the road AND TURNED a profit!?
Here in 2024, a "Great CEO" is a person who takes a company and sells it off part/peice at a time and turns a few months profit for its share holders, and closes the company down, after destroying it! The CEO will leave with a golden parachute after desteoying the company and the invested employees lives, AND THEY ARE considered GREAT! When anyone could do that? Its funny how times and definitions have changed.

Depends on who you talk to. A number hate Crane because he eliminated branches, such as Lackawanna cut-off, to become profitable. Sort of Beeching in the UK.

August 1960 facts from Fortune list the PRR gross at 888 million and the NYC gross as 773 million.. net incomes of PRR=16.6 million (ranking first) and NYC = 13.2 (ranking third).
