In many churches, today is the liturgical celebration of the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. Before he was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God, the Risen Lord told his disciples: “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature.”
He also mentioned the signs that would accompany those who believed: in his name, they will drive out demons and speak new languages; pick up serpents but will not be harmed; lay hands on the sick and they will recover.
The disciples went on mission as the Lord directed them and He accompanied and guided them.
