My Chinese neighbor used to make these, and she was always so nice to make extras for us. Had no idea how much work was put into them. Rest In Peace Mrs. Leong.
This video is so heartwarming, I’ve been missing my family so much during this quarantine. I live in SoCal and my family lives in San Francisco. I haven’t been able to visit them since February. Love hearing you guys speaks Cantonese.
I lived in SoCal for a few years during college and after college. After moving back a few years ago, I really appreciate being able to see and spend time with family as often as we do. I hope you are able to visit your family soon once the quarantine eases up!
Thank you for sharing this traditional zongzi, it's very important for the younger generation to continue this. Just to let you know that it wasn't a 'critter' that you found (@ 2:38). It was the end part of each leaf. If you open the bamboo leaves package, you will see inside it, 'the critters' are inside the plastic package :) Nevertheless, your grandma is right we still need to wipe the leaves down.
Thank you this I have been looking for . For 20 years I have no Chinese relatives I am Country bumpkin that work for a Chinese family in Idaho! And they made these 2 times a year . Ooooooh so good ! This is the one ! I have sons that will love them . Thank you for sharing your family with me ! Shei shei .
What precious memories you are sharing with popo! Even if I don't ever learn to make it as perfectly as my grandma, I still enjoyed watching her when I was growing up. I so wished I had the opportunity to film her while she was still here. I'm hoping to try to make joong for new year's and I'm going on memories and the help of the internet.
Watched my mum and aunt make these all day yesterday though they wrap it slightly differently and have Chinese five spice powder in theirs...your grandma reminds me of the "clothes making grandma" from my ancestral village.
Haha love it! This is like asian grandmas. You try following them and boom, suddenly their done and you're still on step one haha. Does your grandma give you proper recipes or like random made up measurements that you'll never be able to recreate?
That’s exactly what happened lol I have asked her many times on how to cook certain dishes and it’s always, “Add a little bit of this and that and that’s it.” Measurements aren’t ever given and I just have to try to make it with trial and error haha
I know Im asking the wrong place but does any of you know a trick to log back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost my login password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
@Alejandro Alejandro I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im in the hacking process now. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Such a cute video! I never knew the long process of making the joongs, so interesting to watch! Plus it was sooo delicious I want more now 🤤 can’t wait for next year hehehe
Jason and Angie She is pretty gangsta 😂 You know what they say...家有一老 如有一寶 Haha grandparents are 💎 It was wonderful to see you both making jongs with her! Gotta learn all the recipes so they don’t get lost! Thanks for sharing 😆
A Great time with your Grandmother enjoy all the time with her I miss mine she was a Greek version of yours always cooking ,Greeks do a similar thing we stuff the grape leaves .I really enjoyed this video ,may your grandmother live many years past 100 (PS .write down all her recipes )
@@jasonandangie7730 I love your sight its very entertaining and informative ,and it getting me through being social distancing .Thank you !!!or Seshshe Seshshe
Grandma's zhongzi looks the best !!! The rest of you need remedial lessons ! I just use a rice cooker with these ingredients and call it a day. I wonder if I can layer those leaves atop my rice cooker just to get the aroma ???
This video made me smile and laugh. I love how the dad comes in and throws in his two cents, lol, reminds me of my husband. I need to know what the name of the pot is that you cooked in and where you bought it. I need it lol
Your grandma is so stinkin cute. Reminds me of mine! I can only understand half of what she is saying but I am curious to try these types of sticky rice! We only make with pork belly and mung bean
is that just a regular american style stove? That looks like way more firepower! Also? Just found your channel; I was a bad chinese american kid and never really learned to speak cantonese well. Hearing the language warms my heart. I hope there's more vids with Jason's g-ma in your video history!
Hello!! I would reaaally want to know which version of the Instant Pot you are using in your video, and what size it is?? That’s the exact size Im looking to purchase, but Im not sure which model and size it is when I am picking on Amazon... thank you so much!! 🙏
This is great! This is so close to how my PohPoh and YeeMa use to make, from what I remember anyways. I wish I was smart enough to have grabbed the old camcorder to video them making food. They use to make this other type of joong, it's basically like this, but the rice was not mushy it was harder?! I don't know if it was different type of rice or was cooked less time?! I think it was called Jeng Mai Joong. Did your family every make that? I hope I explained it ok. I've never seen it made anywhere else. It can't just be my family that made it?!
It’s always heartwarming to hear this video reminds viewers of joong their family used to make! We’re glad it brought back memories of how your PohPoh and YeeNa made them ☺️. I’ve never heard of Jeng Mai Joong and don’t recall eating it, BUT I happen to be with my mom right now and asked her. She immediately knew what it was! And she said my grandmothers used to make them and confirmed the rice is not as soft. We hope you get to eat some tasty joongs this coming holiday!
GEt it together, I learned to wrap the white string plus put the filling in on my second try. Then I was faster than the Auntie helping mY Mom. Heeheeee. It's not that hard. Maybe cause I am the family cook
i like self marinate pork with pepper and some salt and put it in raw also use that yellow mung bean i hate peanuts and water chest nut and salted egg when finished left over or when cooled u can slice use frying pan u can use oil or margerin or butter on frying pan and make it crispy both sides and eat it dip it lightly in fish sauce or soya sauce

I am watching from Canada. While watching you guys vdo I am thinking of my mom and my grandma. I missed them so much. Keep doing your good job ❤

I just started following your RUclips channel. I love what you're doing and it was really sweet to see Jason learn how to wrap Joong with his Grandma!
We had such a great time learning from her. Thank you for the support!
Jason’s popo is so adorable. Gotta carry on tradition!
Yes she is! 😁 We are determined to make it again this year and hopefully make joong that she can be proud of!
Awww, your grandma is super cute! It reminds me of my grandma 😕

@Alejandro Alejandro It did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much, you really help me out :D
Just like my grandma would make it! I miss her.
I'm sorry for your loss. Death is one of the if not the hardest thing to think about.

My boys are half Cantonese and they loved this sticky rice wrapped.. I want to learn how to make it wish you guys have the ingredients up..
Good idea pass the tradition on to your family and kids.
"He's been feeding me unwashed pork belly." I bet he still hears about this ever so often. LOL

I think we’ve tried the food you’re talking about that’s wrapped in grape leaves. What are they called again?
@@jasonandangie7730 Dolmathes or Yaprakia the Turks call them Yaprak Dolmas

My grandma would always make a lot of these every time we visit her in the new year.
Aw, that’s awesome! That’s one of the best things about grandmas-they always have good food ready for you! 🙂

Aww reminds me of my grandma.
Same
The Insta-pot is your friend, whether it's for boiling the leaves, or cooking the finished product. Sadly, it won't wash things.
Thank you very much for the video
You are very welcome!
Reminds me of my auntie, you will always be 10 steps behind the teacher. They be fast y'all.
True that!

Thank you! We'll let Popo know you said that 🙂! Some quick service dim sum restaurants sell these. We hope you'll be able to try them soon.
I like it

I’m not sure where my dad got the stove but it does have a lot of firepower. Absolutely, we plan on making more videos with Popo!
Chicken? Chicken? She doesn't deserve to eat!😂 Blasphemy!
Your popo is so much like mine.🥰
Also, is that 30 mins or 3 hours cooking time?
thank you for uploading. I want to make some today and thought it would be easy to figure out the leaf wrapping part... NOPE.
It definitely takes a little practice to get the shape and the right tightness! Keep trying. You can do it! 🙌🏼

More videos with popo please. Chinese grandmas are all the same, laughing at their foreign-born grandkids that don't know how to do stuff.
Haha pretty much! They teach us how to laugh at ourselves and not be so serious 😅
Hello! I just subscribed. Can you guys show us how to make Chinese style lobster- ginger and onion :) Thank you!
Hello! I have yet to make that, but my dad makes that dish really delicious. I will have to consult him on how to do that and get that video made!
chinese pork sausage is kinda sandy when you touch it
