Nice job compiling and presenting the after effects of Ian - the physical destruction, people impacts, and future ramifications.

I've been here on and off since 74. Trying to save money and go home. Hurricane's are nothing to mess with but try going north on 75 with all these people leaving.

Barrier islands without population do its job. I was a ranger at Cayo Costa state when Ian made landfall. Idalia actually did more damage to the dunes. The surge was higher with Idalia. The erosion was incredible after Idalia. We lost the rest of our sea turtle nests, and the surge inundated the park. The winds and rain from Ian did more structural damage, and freshwater flooding.

That is true, about barrier islands. They protect the interior.

SO helpful, so well told. I was in the hurricane & flood, I didn't want to move my sick dog. The storm was horrifying, but our coastal communities ARE family. Somehow this is helping my PTSD.

When you choose to stay and ignore the warnings, you have no right to call 911. How selfish can you be by putting others at risk because *you* made the choice to stay. I live on the ATLO side and even I had severe warnings for several days. And honestly, do you really need someone to take your hand? It was coming as an extreme Cat4,just one wine away from a 5. wtf more do you need?
