Poised to make auction history, the unprecedented sale will be livestreamed around the globe from our saleroom at Rockefeller Center, where clients can place bids in person and online. Experience firsthand the thrill of the auction while viewing masterpieces by Sandro Botticelli, Georges Seurat and Lucian Freud, among others, go under the hammer. Pursuant to the wishes of the late co-founder of Microsoft, all proceeds of the sale, valued in excess of $1 billion, will go to philanthropy.
Amazing to watch, such beautiful art. Paul Allen a great philanthropist. Thank you for everything 👏💙💚
The collection was amazingly balanced.
One of the best collections I’ve seen in an auction house.
This is one occasion when money flows and it’s not ugly.
Wow, and that was obly the first half of the collection, crazy!
I walked out of Moma and went into the preview while I was visiting NY just before the auction. The artwork was stunning - walked round a corner - a Warhol - then a Nara - then a De Kooning - then an ( insert artist ) amazing 🤯🤯 thank you Christie’s
The beat Art collection I have seen in an auction house. Superb pieces WOW
Such a privilege to watch - amazing collection - just imagine to be able to walk in everyday and stroll around❤
You can actually walk in to Christies (Phillips/ Sotheby's/ Phillip Mould, etc...) and stroll around, every single day. Assist auctions on the days assigned for it (like the majority you see seating there), and see the collections up close before they are sold!
You can srroll around great art. Docket the National Gallery of Art in Washington. The entry price is right - FREE
Glad to see them keeping the focus on the art, many of which may never be seen again.
That was one good collection.
After seeing this incredible collection it makes the Albert Barnes collection look amazing
I saw the breath taking Vincent Van Gogh, his Orchard painting is simply remarkable.
It's priceless in my estimation, but 102 million is a steal.
I can only imagine that Georgia O'Keefe is laughing hysterically at these millions of dollars.
Why?
Truly spectacular works.
I was ever so excited because her arm literally looked like an ostrich realism painting superimposed on a surrealistic background. I wanted to buy it!!!😂
Auction previews are always occasions to see museum-level artworks. It's free and open to anyone, and sometimes better than museums (like in Hong kong)
Impressive, very nice, lets see paul allens art collection
Impressive, very nice
Amazing collection of art
Jussi Pylkkanen is always a pleasure
Very exciting collection and sale
As a artist this is so exciting
ha ha yes it's good..makes me feel I'm undervalued!
@@SIEBEGORMEN yes I hear you. It’s natural to have that feeling but it’s amazing to see the possibilities
@@Karlena_Lewin_Studio you always have one possibility, but never say no, you will have none then. Besides, as an autist, the whole stuff is boring
An artist.
@@lindamon5101 o yes thank u hehe
I smoked a very expensive joint and had a very expensive bottle of wine ,it was fun love Christie’s,,so much fun
INCREDIBLE
Speechless...
I really wish that Christie's would include the size and medium of the work in the written description at the bottom of the screen. This would give us internet viewers more insight into the type of work and its value.
The size is there but you need to squint.
I miss the open chat during the auction.
They do. It's on the screen next to the auctioneer. You'll need to watch for it specifically, but the info is there.
아주 아름답그 예술적인 작퓸 입니다~~^
40:15 for the Georges Seurat, _Les Poseuses, Ensemble (Petite Version) (1888)_
Love the auctions. Please cut back to the artwork one more time during bidding. We are here for the work and want to see it
Drives me potty also
Such a nice Kandinsky!
Paul Allen paid for the paintings, but he never owned them. He was only the “chosen one” to be the caretaker. Just like the next chosen one.
I hope I understand your point - he made them all available to be on public view. A lot of these were bought by Middle Eastern and Far Eastern buyers who will likely choose to keep them private or not loan them out beyond their homeland. He was a true custodian. He should be fondly remembered.
Look at that subtle, off-white coloring...
IONISE THERON STUNNING ..................................
I enjoy both Adrian and Juusi.
Christie's collects a minimun 26% buyer's fee on all sales +other expenses. $400,000,000+
This is how rich people battle inflation. Art is about the only asset still going parabolic
I'm interested to know what model is the phone they're using, like the old brick phone
some of them might be using satellite phones.
This was so sad to witness. First, I do not think this sale was actually "pursuant to Paul's wishes". He was a great philanthropist, but there is more to philanthropy than giving away money. Paul had told people that he wanted these works to be seen by the public and end up in a museum, not on the auction block where they will then disappear from public view. He would have smiled down from the heavens to see an "Allen Museum of Fine Art" constructed in Seattle for the benefit of the people of and visitors to the Pacific Northwest.
Jody....why?
They are correct. Mr Allen, Paul, wanted his collection to be seen by the public. He always thought about his community, Seattle. It’s surprising that his sister decided to auction. The collection would have been donated in his will and he would have designated what institutions etc. obviously not the case. It’s an amazing collection. Imagine collecting it. Indeed a Visionary
Do the paintings come with a watermark ?
When you see the ladies wearing only gold they are OIL RIGS
MONEY MONEY MONEY
With this level of quality I would have liked to see Paul Allen start a museum instead of scattering his collection around. It’s a bit of a loss.
You make a great point but I think ultimately he saw himself as a custodian and would rather see the profits go to many philanthropic causes to benefit many. It's about more than the art. I hope they don't get locked away. Great point though 👍
@@damienkearns3654 damien thankyou for your informative& brilliant perspective. I appreciate you.
The Agnes Martin painting should be called uninteresting not "untitled".
Max is kinda cute

TAIWAN????????
When he died, the obits called him an environmentalist. Pretty good for a guy that owned the worlds largest mega yacht, multiple mansions and private jets.
@@ydne Lol...he did not invent the computer....He co-founded a monopolistic software company that stifled competition and slowed innovation in the sector
If these artworks were painted by unknown people, they'd be worthless! That's how much are they really worth!
Your point is meaningless. Their inherent value is owing to the talented people who created them, who deserve to live on in infamy.
That's how much they are really worth? Huh? They're worth what people are willing to pay for them. Noone is unknown in the 21$T century. It is who you know. How you present what you have. Is it love?
@@damienkearns3654 he he, most of them are work of forgery! Museums know that, art dealers know that and often the customers know that. It's a strange world where being known for possessing a certain painting, although it's a fake, is worth to some many millions! Just so the other collector aspires to own it even more.
@@damienkearns3654 infamy?
@@damienkearns3654 no one knows the forger's name, so no one can appreciate their talent.
Tom Keating's paintings are everywhere and we have many Tom Keatings mascarading as famous painters.
My point was very meaningful indeed.😂
🙂👀🙂
HOW MANY WORKS OF ART DOES A LOT MAKE?
I think it varies depending upon the collection being sold..
I just don’t get it. I paint with my daughter. I might be an untapped millionaire.
How is he a "visionary" if he has billions of dollars to buy "blue chip" art?
Brit knows nothing of American art. The "Hart Benton."
I bought a painting.
show the art not the people bidding. Those are phone calls. WGAF.
Impressive, very nice
