I still have my 280x from ‘82 or ‘83. Someone stole the handlebar pad when I was in driver’s ed class. Mine is chrome like this one. About 10 years ago I took it to a local shop here in Houston to get it serviced, they changed tires, adjusted the brakes, lubed it, and offered to buy it. I taught my son how to ride with it. Still have it in the garage, my wife makes fun of me for keeping it.
I still have my ‘81 Mongoose…bought it in ‘83 and restored it in 2009. My wife snickers when I ride it from time to time. I reminded her, “hey, I’ve had this bike one l year longer than I’ve had you 😉”.
Oh my gosh, I had one of these. Had a crack in the frame below the seatpost. Had it welded. Was fine after that, my pride and joy as a kid. A thing of beauty for sure. Many thanks for the memories. My regret is I never kept any of my bikes. :(
The talk of 280 is incredible I had when I was a kid. Same exact bike I had it all done up back in the early '80s. I would stand up and put my feet on the two tubes on the head by the seat and stand up and go down a hill my hands up in the ass standing straight up on the frame what a great time enjoy the bike is it for sale
Lol....that brought back a lot of memories. My buddy and I mowed yards back in the day and saved up to get our bmx bikes. He got the Torker I got a Diamond Back. Awesome times!
Why would i sit here,..with a Guitar in my hands noodling,.....watching a Torker be put together? Cause it makes me feel like im 15,...still a virgin,.....with only racing my bike,....riding my bike,...& a Torker was the only one I ever wanted or had,...I loved every second of taking it apart,..cleaning every part,.....tightening every bolt,.......then going to find jumps,......wish these days it was that easy to entertain myself,....aint youtube awesome,...anything you want ,..you got
Man, all the kids that didn’t come from divorced families all rode Torkers,Redlines,Pattersons…etc. they were part of the in crowd, and if you didn’t have a cool bike like them, forget it. Part of my childhood that never was.
I came from a poor family, I mithered my dad for a new bike. I got a Torker 280 at last in 1984, my dad said " look after it, you won't get another" . I still have it. Thanks Dad Rip, lots of miles and memories.
Nice bro . It all started for me with a Raleigh burner ( standard version ) , then a Wilson freestyler purchased from Halfords back in the day (uk ) that got stolen , then I won a TRM freestyler in a competition, I was so lucky . My last BMX was a Dp firebird frrestyler in white with acs z rims , all the others had cheap mag wheels that broke lol
Nice nostalgia, I remember the DP Firebird frame being promoted in BMX weekly, I drempt of owning one. Fortunately I held on to my 1984 Torker 280, and still have it 39 years later. I have no idea what they're worth now, rare bike - £1500 perhaps?
2:24 on a regular bike this stem washer suppose to have a notch which would prevent an adjusting cone from rotating while tightening the stem nut. I wonder why bmx manufactures skimp on that.
Very nice. I BMX during late 70’s to late 80’s and I recently moved and found my old BMX bikes in the attic. I was shocked that they were still up there I thought I got rid of and 30 years ago. I have a Torker and a GHP Greg Hill product bike. I want to how much they work today I can take pictures and video.
Yep, the bane of our existence. My ‘81 Goose, ‘83 Torker 280, and ‘84 Diamond Back Silver Streak all have rust inside the gusset area. 😑 I was able to lightly scuff the rust away and spritz a little silver paint in there to prevent it from getting any worse.
i got a 98 torker for my bday and had rode it for almost 10 years til one day i took a small jump off a curb and the frame snapped in half at the bottom big bar. now i cant find them bikes anywhere, great build
Actually I just dug out my 1983 Torker 280 and I’m gonna restore it it’s not in terrible shape but what would you recommend as far as a good rust remover that won’t pivot the chrome frame
I’m restoring an ‘83 280. I use brass bristle brushes and Dawn dish soap to remove the surface rust on mine. Deep pitting is permanent, but a little scrubbing and a coat of carnuba wax will improve the appearance and keep it from getting worse.

I still wish I had my Torker 280x! I worked all summer to buy it! Loved it! I even won a couple races on it! Would love to have another one!!!!
This takes me back !!! I had this bike with skyway wheels and double handlebar top. Damn I miss mine now:(
I rode a GT Pro Performer and my best friend had a Torker 280X. 1986 ish. Times were so good back then.

Wow, that is a beauty . Great bike , great build too harvester. 👍😀
beautiful bmx
Oh shit
That's gorgeous
Wow! I haven't seen a Torker in over 30 years ...beautiful build. Can I ask why you went with the GT bars? Just curious...

Had an 87 all chrome haro sport.
Now I have a Dyno Zone all chrome with spokes. Looking to get the Haro Master cruiser cause I'm an old man now.
Awesome editing
Are you being sarcastic because there are obvious cuts everywhere
@@mapples5871 it’s a 7 minute fun bike build video. Quit being a douche “Hollywood”.
Beautiful. The gusset was hard to clean and prone to rust spots.

Not really into old school bmx bikes but damn I would ride that one 🤦♂️
They're beautiful to ride, the geometry is spot on.
Great build, had one long ago. Lost during move. Would like another one.

Checkout my 1983 Torker 280 .... i live in London UK but check out the sticker on the frame... it originally came from a shop in CO USA
@@nickonak5475 I’m restoring an ‘83 280 as we speak. 🤘🏼
Search for an early American built Torker. Whole different animal.
How much would that bike cost?????
Some go for £1800
But on ebay a month ago one went for £5000
I own a haro BMX Bike But This Torker Is Pretty Cool!

The brass brush won’t scratch the chrome, but the loose rust will….so blow loose debris off of the surface as you brush. Works like a charm.
Not that era unfortunately but I did own a 1997 Torker holeshot.
Need some of those tires for my Dyno detour
Nice vid bro
Just picked up a 1982 torker 280x
How much did you pay? If you don't mind me asking.
Nice, I have the opportunity to buy a 99 Torker Tabu should I go for it or nah?.
Been better with yellow tires, grip, seat and cables but still nice
Meh. Opinions. I prefer black on chrome, myself.
Is that a bottle opener built into the seat?
How much did it cost all together?
Siempre me preguntaba porque torker 580 se parece aún Haro y a gt
Torker came first.
HOW MUCH ALL THESE NOS PARTS COST? WHATS THIS TORRKER WORTH NOW... AND DONT SAY 5K
