    I know this was made quite a while ago, but I just wanted to say that this story is one of my favorite from Lovecraft, and you adapted it perfectly! The stop-motion puppetry is something that I never even considered before, and it works so well! I always liked how the Earthen Gods couldn't keep an old man from finding them at the top of a mountain, and had to tell on him to Nyarlathotep and Friends.

    • @TheLoneAnimator
      @TheLoneAnimator  2 года назад +9

      Thank you :) I am, of course, dedicated to the craft of stop-motion, simply because I just like the look and feel of it. But I also think that it can be used as a great tool for both telling stories and achieving atmosphere.

    Wow...so many great effects. The main room was wonderfully decorated. The costumes were super great. Some of the rock climbing shots really looked great. The puppets showed up in full force and were grand. They were pretty scary beasts. This is a very well-put together little film. Congrats to everyone involved.

    As a lifelong Lovecraftian, I have imagined some pretty strange stuff while reading the stories numerous times over the years. And in my miss-spent youth, I had done just about every drug there was to be had at least once. But THIS is a mind-fuck of the highest order! You do a great job of bringing his stories to life, keeping true to the original spirit of the stories. I think Lovecraft would be well pleased with your work. I look forward with anticipation to seeing more from you in the future.

    Not sure about the others, but maybe:
    5:28 Nyarlathotep
    5:57 Yog-Sothoth (?)
    6:03 The Twin Blasphemies
    6:16 Shub-Niggurath (?)
    I liked the surrealism of the gods.

    • @TheLoneAnimator
      @TheLoneAnimator  7 лет назад +4

      You're pretty correct in your suggestions. I didn't really plan to make any definitive gods, but let's say these puppets could be either this one or that one. Yog -Sothoth is at 5:49 (in the background). The ones at 5:57 and 6:03 are generic eldritch monstrosities.

    • @11RisingPhoenix
      @11RisingPhoenix 7 лет назад +1

    I don't know what to say. It was clearly done on a little budget but it was so high concept and the pacing, puppets and dialogue were fantastic. This was an incredibly faithful film to Lovecraft's writing. It is startling that Hollywood has has a hundred years and has been largely unable to do justice to Lovecraft' and here somebody with a green screen and some animation skills totally nails the original story.

    • @TheLoneAnimator
      @TheLoneAnimator  6 лет назад

      Thank you! You can only make an adaptation as you see it, and this is how I saw it. What I was hoping to capture was what fantasy was back in the days of Lovecraft, when the genre was still being molded, and was very influenced by the Orient. That vintage type of fantasy is almost forgotten today, but you can see snippets of it in the various comic and movie adaptations of the Conan stories. And I wanted to show that it can actually be done with virtually no money and with simple equipment. I'm glad you were entertained by it :)

      Thanks :) It's basically a fable or fairy tale by Lovecraft, inspired by Lord Dunsany's writings, so it's not really scary at all, but it does have its moments.

    greetings from Boston and Providence so it's Halloween night what else would I be doing except watching some of the best claymation HP Lovecraft stories ever made LOL I miss you brother I hope you working hard on all kinds of new stuff Rudy. I'm actually sitting here with a new friend who I turned on to some of your videos and quite sure she like them as much as I do brother you capture the essence of Lovecraft like no one else. I know I promised you it's been a really tough year I actually got hurt at work so it's been tough for me to get around but I want to go down to Providence and do a shot or at least send you the thumb drive with a bunch of really really cool shots of Providence so you have a much better idea of what it looked like then and now but until then Happy Halloween my friend I love you work keep doing it and just know there's those of us out here. Just so appreciate what you do your true artist thank you so much love you bro Rudy

      Hello Rudy! There's no rush with the photos. It would be nice to have eventually, if I choose to go really into Lovecraft country :) Sorry to hear that life's not treating you the kindest way. Nowadays I'm very busy juggling two day jobs, and sometimes they spill over into the weekends. So it's not easy to be active here on RUclips. But yes; I am working on new projects whenever I can find the time. Hope you had a great Halloween, and thanks for spreading the word about my stuff!

    iv watched a few of these amateur type films and I have to say, there really starting to grow on me. there's a kind of appealing simplicity to them that big budget Hollywood movies just don't have.

    • @TheLoneAnimator
      @TheLoneAnimator  5 лет назад

      I think the amateur Lovecraft is pretty un-filtered. There are no board meetings where money people decide what's good for a film.

    While your stop-motion is gorgeous (As always), I do wish you'd try to integrate the lighting on the actors with the lighting scheme of the green-screen backdrops a bit more naturaly-looking-ly, if you get what I mean.

    • @Titleknown
      @Titleknown 9 лет назад +3

      Though, I will say, the lighting on the actors looks more natural near the end than in the beginning. Did you shoot this in order of plot and try and tinker with your techniques as you went along?
      Also, any chance of you ever trying to collaborate with Lee Hardcastle? I'd love to see you two try your hands at making a Harryhausen-type stop-motion feature-length creature-feature together!

    • @TheLoneAnimator
      @TheLoneAnimator  9 лет назад +6

      Thomas Johnson Yes, you're certainly right about the lighting. My set up is as primitive as it can be and we were working in a very cramped space. I'm trying to fix that for the next project. If the look grows better towards the end it's a complete coincidence :)

    Nice version of Nyarlathotep in his Bloody Tongue guise! I always thought of the Gods of Earth as being humanoid - much like Zeus and co - but this works too, and it's great to see a different interpretation. There's a great contrast between the ethereal, radiant gods of Earth, and the more harshly defined Other Gods.

    • @TheLoneAnimator
      @TheLoneAnimator  8 лет назад

      +Phil Smith My original plan was actually to have the Gods of the Earth as humanoids, but then I decided I wanted something much more abstract, but beautiful. The Other Gods were always going to be stop-motion monstrosities to totally set them apart. Glad you enjoyed it :)
