This song is about his breaking up with and leaving an abusive boyfriend! The “ghost” is the fact that people know what’s going, the black eye following. The Mask is a gimmick like country western singers getup. It’s a costume, adds to the mystique. He’s been around for 20 years. Nothing religious about this song or him. He now lives in LA and worked with Shania Twain. PS: He was also a ballet dancer.
