    What’s the challenge in second language learning after you’ve reached a level of abundant vocabulary is then structure phrases or sentences in a way that native speakers would. Often times I’ll ask myself "how would a native say it?" Because many times we transliterate our thoughts from our native language into our target language and the result comes out sounding incorrect.
    But thanks for this video I’ve been looking forward to it!

    • @thedavidguy01

    When you are bilingual, it depends on which language has been the last on you heard, how nervous you are etc. If you dont really live steadily in one place, both languages mix, exactly the way it happens here. If he stayed for six month straight in France, he wouldnt be american on certain words, ... and would sound french on certain words back in the States. It depends on which language you are thinkind in, dreaming in at that time...

    good, a current interview....he's clearly bilingual as you say. And slurring words is perhaps one of the reasons I find watching films or listening to French speakers so challenging. "genre" as" like"...never knew that, je te conseille...thanks, never knew how to say recommend. I think it's fun how you say "way better" in colloquial English because I would never have accepted that in a formal essay.

    Non j'déconne, mais ceci dit, ça m'a fait plaisir d'entendre cette petite analyse. Ca fait plusieurs années que j'essaye d'avoir un vocabulaire plus riche et des prononciations plus justes
    Learning english has always been hard for me, because in my schools, we learned the words on the books but never really encouraged to speak it directly.
    Since I entered to the university, I got an english teacher which was speaking english with very bad pronounciations, but it was all on purpose. She was doing it to encourage us to speak without being embarassed by the pronounciations. After beating the embarassment, you speak more freely and train it more easely. Don't be embarassed. Also with a bad accent, we can understand you and like your efforts

    I like your reactions! I took French in college. When I went to France, I could read signs and museum labels very well, and that was fun. Creating sentences was very hard, but especially when I was on my own, I just jumped in, admitted I was not very good, and people were so helpful! Timothee Chalamet's sister lives in Paris and acts in French films. I'd guess that is where he picks up how younger people speak!

      parkviewmo Greetings. I am from Toronto, Canada and learned French in elementary and high school. I could always read and write in French but my oral language skills was average. Then I signed up for Rocket Languages in 2012 , similar to Rosetta Stone and I found it very helpful to brush up on my conversational skills. I was in Paris in 2013 and I spoke French half the time. I understood the Parisians and they said my French was good!

    I'm a Scot and I live in France. I speak French every day with my workmates. Even French people say things like "les femmes...ils". French people make mistakes with language just as British and Americans but probably much less as French is a very organised language, unlike English which is very loose. In French, you may get an error of gender of a noun or not using the subjunctive when required but you will never come across an error like "I would of" instead of "I would have".

      ow glad to hear that you try even when it can be hard. you know even though I'm "fluent" in English, I still get nervous sometimes when I speak the language. I love speaking English but I get selfconscious and start making crazy mistakes lol so it's part of the process I guess, especially if you don't practice speaking the language that you're learning with other people regularly.

    Salut ! je suis français et je sais pas trop pourquoi je regarde toutes vos vidéos mais je les trouve super intéressantes :D
    Pour lui et pour jodie foster j'ai remarqué que vous n'essayez pas d'analyser leur accents, ils parlent parfaitement français, modulo quelques petites erreurs de grammaire et d'expressions traduites mots pour mot de l'anglais au français, mais ils sont clairement bilingues. En revanche je ne sais pas vous mais je trouve qu'il et elle ont quand même un accent et vous le notez pas, ça serait interessant de peut-être analyser comment nous francophones français arrivons à reconaitre l'accent anglophone, moi je n'arrive pas vraiment à l'expliquer et j'aimerais avoir votre avis sur la question. Peut-être que vous ne notez pas d'accent chez eux ?
    Merci pour vos vidéos !

    • @MBJanus
      @MBJanus 4 года назад +1

      Personnellement je ne remarque pas vraiment d'accent chez Judie Foster, des fautes de genre ou d'accord oui, mais elle dit elle-même qu'elle doit être dans le bain quelque temps pour bien le maîtriser à nouveau. Je m'étais même déjà fait la réflexion qu'avec son absence d'accent je n'arriverais pas à la situer, pas plus qu'un présentateur de journal national. Tandis que Timothée Chalamet que je ne connais pas, en mettant à part quelques mots mal prononcés, me paraît avoir un accent rappelant un peu certaines banlieues.

    • @groethendieck
      @groethendieck 4 года назад +1

      @@MBJanus C'est vraiment super leger chez jodie foster, j'ai récouté les extraits, mais pour timothée c'est un peu le même accent que je trouve à charlie qui parle super bien français par ailleurs ! Moi qui suis bilingue dans une autre langue, j'ai un leger accent dans ma deuxième langue, qui se gomme assez rapidement quand je passe du temps dans le pays ou quand je passe beacoup de temps avec d'autres personnes qui parlent la langue. Notament je peu choper l'accent d'autres régions si je passe du temps avec des gens de la région. Mais si je débarque, malgé ma parfaite maitrise on entend legerement un accent. j'ai l'impression que c'est juste que nos muscles ne sont plus habitués à le faire et jodie foster peut certainement completement le gommer, surtout qu'elle est actrice, mais sur l'interview que Maia a analysé la derniere fois j'entends un léger truc.

    • @groethendieck
      @groethendieck 4 года назад +2

      Mais justement ce que j'aimerais c'est (plus de l'ordre des sons produits, les voyelles et les consonnes) d'arriver à dire pourquoi malgré une parfaite maitrise, on arrive encore a identifier qu'ils sont américians. Bon thimotée fait quand même assez de fautes pour s'en rendre compte mais jodie c'est vraiment super subtil.

    • @MBJanus
      @MBJanus 4 года назад

      @@groethendieck C'est vrai. J'écoutais un enseignant de français, d'origine étrangère, qui expliquait les accents du Sud Ouest, du Sud, plus à l'Est de Marseille, de Nice,.. et qui faisait une sorte de tour de France. Sincèrement si j'entendais un peu les différences du Midi, ou la caricature d'un accent de titi parisien, la classification m'a paru artificielle, il ne parlait pas des banlieues, de la zone et autres où il me semble que les accents sont quasiment sociologiques, peu géographiques en tout cas. J'ai le sentiment que la diffusion se fait maintenant plus par les médias que par voisinage.

    • @Street_French
      @Street_French  4 года назад +1

      ah oui c'est vrai c'est intéressant, j'ai pas trop pensé à parler de leur accent. Pour Jodie Foster c'était quasiment imperceptible mais pour Timothée C., un peu plus fort j'avoue. J'en parlerais dans les prochaines vidéos

      ah yeah it takes time. It depends how you study French too.. Are you just learning by yourself with textbooks ? or only taking classes that teach you grammar and theory. if so, that's not enough.
      To be able to speak a language you need to practice speaking the language. you can't just rely on studying alone in your room or in a classroom. you need to go outside, meet people online, practice improvising in conversations, make a ton of mistakes, learn from your mistakes, and don't focus too much on accent. Accent can take years and years and maybe you'll never sound perfect, that's not important. what's important is to be able to hold a conversation, understand what people are telling you and to make yourself understood by others :))
      it's a long process but it becomes so much more fun and worthwhile when you make friends along the way ^^
