I grew up in a similar way to Timothée but with Spanish. I immigrated from Ecuador to the US when I was 3. I spent summers in Ecuador but like Timothée my vocabulary isn’t at the level of someone who grew up in a Spanish speaking country. And every once in a while a small accent slips out that makes it obvious I grew up in an English speaking country speaking Spanish at home.

I love how u have a very distinct ear to be able to pick up on if he’s native. Or a person that spoke English as a 1st language - later learning French. People that can play by ear - that are really good. Can distinguish a singer who may have influence from the region of Memphis (specifically) or Georgia, vs if they’re from a northern U.S. State. Just from the dialect of how they delivered the note. It’s a rare talent. I watched this video mths ago & constantly thing about the critic & talk about this specific video all the time. I will be coming to Paris next year & have been talking French lessons for the 1st time. I don’t like how you open the video w/ not being *NEUTRAL* And just assess & then reply to what’s presented. It’s like you’re automatically on the defensive w/ this American to see how well he measures up to your standards. I do like your other video where you teach us fundamental/conversational French.
Extra Note: I’m just now coming back from view one of your other videos. Where you say you are a formal Educator of teaching French. Now, it’s making better sense to me why you were so on the defensive of critiquing him so badly. Got it!

He is very fluent and he has (basically) a native-like accent, but he is not native in my opinion 'cause he makes mistakes that native French people definitely wouldn't make.
For instance, my mother is French and I lived one and a half years in France. Even though most people think that I am native when I speak French, I actually don't see myself as a native speaker, because I still make many mistakes (gender, vocabulary, sometimes I even swap vowels, idioms, etc.). Being a native speaker means that you can think and most importantly create sentences effortlessly (of course native speakers might also have trouble with certain expressions, or difficult sentences). But anyways, his French is nevertheless very very good

Nop, the American accent and the Swiss one are not alike but both are different from traditional French accent.
In reality even this does not mean anything because each area of France has a slightly different accent.
But when we speak of traditional French language we are usually referring to Parisian French.

Also, as someone who also speaks my mother's language, Spanish, it is very difficult sometimes to keep up the flow of the language when it is not your native tongue. Bonjour tout le monde 🇫🇷
Thank you so much for all your comments! I am trying to answer all the comments but it is hard to keep up so I thought I would answer here:
As surprising as it sounds I really didn’t know anything about Timothée that is why I reacted like that. I was SHOOK ahaha 😂 So I didn’t know that his dad was French... Having a French parent does not mean that you will automatically speak French fluently especially when you don’t grow up in France 🇫🇷 Timothée’s parents did an amazing job with him.
I am so happy that I know him now because he is just so smart and talented!
I am definitely doing a part 2 to this reaction video because (let’s be honest) I got so distracted by him 😏😂 that I forgot to mention certain things concerning his French. Indeed, a lot of people were mentioning in the comments that his level is not native. I would love to discuss that in more details so part 2 is coming soon.
I also made a reaction video to Lily-Rose Depp speaking French, you can watch it here:

You are the second French RUclipsr I’ve watched who has analyzed Timothee’s French haha. I am also like Timothee, French dad American mother but my French is more fluent than his because I went to a bilingual school in the US. It makes a HUGE difference believe me. Timothee only went to a normal American school but his French is still really good! Btw he also dated Madonna’s daughter in high school lol they were classmates. Oh and he also dated Lily Rose Depp they just broke up actually 😂

I enjoyed your reaction very much just a small point. I was puzzled by Timothee' s error in saying duologue instead of dialogue and he did not correct himself. It is a very elementary mistake one that even a novice would not have made given that the English word is the same as the French. I saw the film and a vast part consists of a duologue, an exchange between two actors. So I think he did mean duologue in this case. .🙂
