    I learned cable tool drilling in 1972 on a 71 speedstar..old timer that got me stsrted began in 1922...in the late 80's went rotary drilling...in 2017 sold my company to the grandson of an old competitor who befriended me early on.
    The company is now 101 years old
    .LOL

    Bailer, I used a Sandpump, Tube with flapper valve at bottom, a valve on a shaft that slides up and dowm, to drag / suck gravel, sand , glay, sometimes TIMBER, from Trees into..
    That was then priveted (sp) to allow it to empty..
    My BAILER was used to test water yield and a DRUM with a discharge pipe out at the bottom, allows you to stay dry, and SAFE..
    One Person at the Rig, off sider to help at times Yes, but not as much as in video.

    My uncle had a 22W Bucyrus Erie and I had an old 31 Stone we drilled water wells with.
    My grandfather was an oil and gas well driller that ran two rigs. I grew up on the Standard Rig and National Machine. They were walking beam rigs . There was nothing like hanging on the temper screw swinging a 45’ stem with a 200’ cracker then the steel cable. Every time you hit it would hit twice when you had the motion right.
    A wonderful business. I told the wife I wanted to buy another rig when I retired to drill a couple shallow gas wells on my property. She said “ you are over 70 and you do not need to be messing with something that dangerous”! Huh,can you believe that?

    Joe thanks for letting me film your process, slow and steady wins the race. Joe told me he gets about 10 feet after work and 40 feet on the week ends. Should be seeing his first water at 157 feet.

    Over the years you gain experience, and you have a tremendous assistant, never work with the pipe so high without going down it is very uncomfortable, always under you a very good machine I work with a 71 also for me one of the best !!

    Drill out ten drive your casing and work from the surface put drive clamps on before you add casing and get off the darn ladder if in dought use a set of jars to prevent down hole problems

    Also your drill line there is a storage side and a drilling side you drilling on storage. Stool over to drum 20 ft at a time so not drilling on cable. The cable will be damaged. It will drill a lot better.

      I noticed that as well at first i was like wow hes deep then i heard they werent and i was like all his cable is on the drilling side of the bull reel. And i would die if i ran thay like him theres easier ways to do it like yhe drive blocks

    Just watched, doing up the bolts, DON'T USE A LADDER..
    Bolts go in the same direction, grease the faces, Grease the threads, YOU are safer standing on the rig..
    Hitting the spanner with the hammer, foolish causing sharp areas, chips the steel, USE a flattened pipe as a slip on handle..
    Cheers..

  • @tonyhudson8698
    @tonyhudson8698 7 месяцев назад +1

    Also the GLAMPS / HAMMERS yes different names used by different
    Company's they don't have to COME OFF.
    They can sit on the drive head, when STEM / BAR
    Is down the hole..
    Don't mix the nuts around, mark one bolt with X, and the nut to match..
    A fine thread is best, stays tighter for Longer..
    Grease the faces before setting up to the squares..
    Leave a slight gap , inorder that they glamp on the squares only..

    That old iron looks so dangerous i love it. No guards rust everywhere one wrong move and off to the hospital you go.. thats what an aware person, knowing everything around will mess you up, not the illusion of safety cuz fresh paint and a couple guards.

    Hit water at 225 feet and the static level is 57 feet. Time to bail it out and see what it makes. GPM

      What’s the verdict on gpm? We just bought a 22w three days ago. We’re going to drill our well, then try to trick someone into letting me work under their license as an apprentice. I’ve never wanted to do anything like I want to drill wells.

  • @752brickie

    The cable problem is because you did not have cable on the working side and was drilling on top of the reserve side of the bull wheel .

    A lot less work drilling ahead and put drive blocks on on the ground. Lift bar up slide casing over the bar then weld it. I been running a cable rig for 30 years I be dead now running like that. Good Video.

    Drilling Ahead is not always possible, here in CHCH, New Zealand, its gravel and sands, some clays.

    Move twenty feet of mainline to to drill side of spool or one layer at a time and drill it off drum you are damaging your drill line and also losing leverage on lift capacity by not using drill side of drum

  • @zacharywing5764
    @zacharywing5764 Год назад +1

    Drilling with line on wrong side and why climb up the ladder if your already 10 ft out tighten blocks on ground weld up and drive. The rig i run has a 42 ft tower so i can clear 20 footers. Ill get 20 foot out if possible or somewhere xlose to that then tighten blocks pull stem almost all the way up to crown then pick up 20 amd stuff the drill rod inside of it weld up climb up there unhook it from winch then drive

  • @tonyhudson8698
    @tonyhudson8698 7 месяцев назад

    Driving winch rope, personally I don't like the split drum idea..
    It's so hard on the rope, just wind the rope on under load, [ tied to a truck, out in paddock ]
    And use full width of drum..
    Again avoid slack ropes when drilling or driving..
    Spring at top of mast is there for a REASON...

    What are you drilling in? I run an old B/E 20-W in south GA. It's usually 60-100ft of casing through red clay into limerock. Wells are usually 70-150 deep in the county I live in.

      First 20 feet sand and gravel. Hit gray clay, found the bottom of the clay at 220 feet, back into sand and gravel with water

    STOP the Horrible, stupid stuff.
    27 years of well drilling, never used a ladder.
    Worked on my own, no broken bones, blacked a finger nail, couple of times..
    As you are learning as you go its hard but risky..
    I used a drive head , put on the casing before lifting up..
    Lift casing, lean it into mast, bottom resting on casing..
    Then manually stand it upright..
    With level check for straight, using a bent welding rod, flattened both ends, USE that to set GAP, tack weld.
    Then prop casing straight and weld..
    3 runs, root run, bottom run 1/2 on casing 1/2 on root run.
    3rd weld to cap at top..
