This was a big hit in the eighties - and has been a Dutch classic ever since.
He definitely has to listen to the Kempi Rapversion from the notorious Limmen Tapes!

@hoi hoi This is a recording of a concert in 2012. Symfonica in Rosso.
Henny Vrienten, Bass and lead singer/songwriter, died today.
Such a big loss..
There goes a big part of my youth.
Thanks Henny.
As A a nineties baby so after their prime years I still can say the same I feel like with out Doe Maar there wouldn't be any good Nederpop artist if the genre would have existed at all
Still can’t believe he’s gone. I didn’t know he was ill, for some reason I missed out on that news. So his death was very sudden for me. He was one of our country’s biggest musicians.
Props to whoever did the subtitles, by the way.
Translation and timing are spot on!
What Googol said. Someone put some time and attention on this.
Yes great job! One mistake, it's "Coco"
Coco - Indonesia
Acapulco - Colombia
Definitely Bang on💥
@@HerazNL and seven, which should be to sift 😉
@@HerazNL Nee, het zijn landen waar wij vroeger wiet vandaan haalden. Nigeria, Congo, Zuid Afrika (Durban poison), Colombia, Accapulco (gold), etc, etc.

Groetjes van oma die pas 40+ jaar blowt.
RIP Henny Vrienten (bass, songwriter, idol of the eighties...).
A year gone already, so very sad.
You were such a part of my youth, I miss you.
Bless this Dutch legend
One of the biggest legends in music of the Netherlands imo. RIP
Awesome concert.. did you see the background😂 even the windmill changed😂 .. ❤❤ greatfull to be born in 81
For me the best Dutch singing band ever. Get well soon Henny!!

For me its De Dijk by far.
Hennie has got ...you.can guess😔😔😔
@@daanmeulendijks6002 I don't guess. Why speculate on what he's got?
Doe Maar was the biggest band in Dutch music history. It was a Dutch language Reggae/Ska band with often pretty serious or controversial lyrics on things like drugs, also the bad, promiscuity, nuclear war, among songs about love and girls. But despite already being in their thirties the singer/bass player (not the one who sings this song) and the singer/keyboard player had a boyband appeal. A Beatlemania emerged, the girl fanbase went from 18 to 16 to 13 and then the younger sisters, while the guys became less openly fan.
So they ended up playing for thousands of girls in some improvised venues like cattle auction halls who were all screaming the lyrics they were far too young for to really understand word for word, except all those 11-year olds who fainted, and then often got attented to by the band members afterwards. Counterproductive probably, but they were just genuinely nice guys. They were in steady relationships with women of their own age and then some 12-year old girl would be out in the rain in front of their window at night and they would drive them home.
There are hundreds of thousands Dutch women who once had a crush on one of those two band members, and most of female audience in this video probably had. So it got a bit uncomfortable, they were just too good a band and too old to be a boyband. They quit, the absolute headline of all the media that day, and probably to the relief of many parents. It seems a sad story, a band killed by their own fans, but these girls are my generation and I look a bit different at it. I've known them in their twenties and they all stil knew a good bass line and a proper reggae drummer when they hear one. Those girls had the privilege of having the crush on boyband experience with good music and good lyrics, not the slick, commercial nothingness that usually exploits teenage girl's hormones.
Very true, they were/are quality. You still see the members pop up in all kinds of other projects. Other bands have tried covering their songs and say it's really hard to copy them technically as it's quite intricate but they make it look easy.
@@Iflie Reggae often comes across as slow, but it's precisely on time. Vrienten en Carel Copier would walk into a Jamaican reggaeband too.
Golden earing grootse
Can you imagine that this band was as big as the Beatles in the Netherland, it was complete madness, total chaos, so much that the band could not handle this pressure. It broke them and left them in a million pieces. Now decenia later they reunited again for a while.
Shit update chouse
This is Holland wen er maar aan!
Busses full of Henny fans would drive to his house to catch a glimpse of him.
The windmill was not broke, it was stoned as a Flemish parrot.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
yes he doesn't got the joke... lol
My son has a "Doe Maar" tattoo, he is 22 . Doe Maar was succesfull long before he was borne. But we listened to these "old" music all the time in the car . He has grown up with Nederwiet and other Doe Maar songs. He has the best memories of that time and Doe Maar music pulled him through a really tough period in his life. I 'm happy you like it toooooo!
Never seen / heard this version! Thanks. It’s like a second National Anthem, everyone knows the lyrics by heart from beginning until the end. Even the younger generations. Goosebumps everywhere 😂🎉
RIP Mr. Bassplayer, Henny Vrienten.
One of the truly greats in writing and performing.
Did anyone notice the windmill at the background! That's the effect of the plant.. 😂
This entire concert is gold.
Yeah it is!! 100% musicians!!
The sun starts shining by hearing this song after so many years 🌞
I saw Doe Maar twice at Pinkpop in the eighties, joined by some nederweed we had a very good time 🤩
R.I.P. Henny Vrienten 27-July-1948 / 25-April-2022 (composer, lead singer guitarist, pianist and bassist)
Basically this should be our national anthem
Isn't it?
true hahaha
Yeah, Doe Maar...the ultimate 'Dutchnes'!! They created their own sound. People call it 'Nederpop' A combination of Ska, Punk and Reggae. Had their heydays in the '80s. Songs with controversial topics. Fantastic band. You should check them out. Songs like: De bom, 1 nacht alleen, Pa and (my personal favorite:)Sinds 1 dag of 2....
De bom is the BOMB!! Also: Heroïne.
There initial 'last goodbye' concert from 1984 is online too, conveniently cut into 2 or 3 song parts. I still have to laugh about all these 13-year old girls reciting all the singer's girlfriends names in 'Eén nacht alleen'. ruclips.net/video/73Yn0WBwz7c/видео.html
My favorites:
- 32 jaar (sinds een dag of 2)
- Belle Helene
- Smoorverliefd
- De Bom
- Liever dan Lief
I wouldn't mind translating one song.
Still one of the best Dutch bands ever. Their popularity actually killed them. Their songs have adult content but the style appealed to teenagers at the time. Oh well.
Echt wel 💪
Belle Helene would be cancelled if it came out today 😫
10:03 It took a very long time for you to notice. The windmill is not broken. Have you perhaps smoked some Nederwiet or has the windmill smoked some?
Welcome to the genius that is Joost Belinfante. Now how to explain him...
Belinfante and Doe Maar Keyboard player Ernst Janzs had been long time friends and in the sixties were in bands together such as CCC Inc.The Slumberland band and The Rumbones. As well as touring together in the backing band of Boudewijn De Groot, which is also where the two of them met Henny Vrienten, who is the bass player in this clip.
So in 1978 when Janzs got Doe Maar together it was almost certain that Belinfante would get involved too. But not just yet, it took the departure of original bass player Piet Dekker before Belinfante made his way in. Belinfante being a multi instrumentalist (If you look at the full show, you will see him play Trombone, Violin and guitar) bought himself a Bass and fit right in.
So when Henny Vrienten came around to join the band as bass player Belinfante stayed around, played on the all of the band's albums and usually did lead vocals on a couple of tunes, of which "Nederwiet" was the biggest hit. But it was Vrienten's involvement which gave the song it's hit potential, because when the band was in the studio recording the Album "skunk" where Vrienten redid all the bass lines Belinfante played and went "Is this something good?" before playing that bass line which made the song legendary.
Doe Maar was my favourite band a kid, I was heartbroken when they quit in 1984. Can you imagine me singing along to songs about drugs as a 6-7yo? My parents were like, "Well, she has no clue what it means, so..." 🤣
In 1980 when this song came out I was 5yo. I was a huge Doe Maar fan and even though I had no idea I sang this song out loud.
I am now 46 and my husband and I own a hemp and CBD store in Austria. Just saying....LOL.
3:02 - "I wanna do some finger-painting with him ..." Hahaha, such a specific activity, perfect. You win my day :-) :-)
Good ol' days. Thank you for the throwback.
Now you know why we Dutch are so happy-go-lucky.
Just a song that teaches us something about nature, want to grow plants, don't remember how to do it.. listen.. just.. listen. Enjoy this relaxed learning curve.
Smoking a joint and watching this video.
Greetings from Holland 🙋🏼♂️🇳🇱

The windmill is as stoned as a Flamish parrot or as the Dutch say, as stoned as a shrimp.
High as a Flemmish parrot, stoned as a shrimp.
I've never been as stoned as a Flemmish parrot, luckily.
This song is worth gold!!
Good video bro and thank you for making this. And yes when it plays here everyone sings along.
There is practically no one dutch/Flemish that was a teenager in the 80's that wouldn't sing along with this song
@W Kelly @@ksl2954 Which makes this version a bit weird because of the freestyle. For example, in the origina he sing "and je rookt alleen de hoesjes, van de zaadjes en, of en/of de bloemetjes" . here he just mentioned the see covers.
Whaaaaaaaa YES! Our second national anthem with subtitles, who made those because I was not able to find subtitles under this song a few weeks ago.... The one who made them so now the rest of the world get to know our underground second national anthem.. THANK YOU FOR TRANSLATING!!!! And for this upload, the reggae music from DOE MAAR, the weed and the freedom... Thank you... And the windmill is stoned!

Loved the song Brood and Vrienten did though... als je wint heb je vrienden.
I bet even English speakers would recognize that and gets them to self reflect.

This guy; Joost Belinfante is a respected musician and producer in the Netherlands. Excellent trombone player.
These guys had the dub-vibe going... There is so much more to explore. The bass player, Henny Vrienten, is the main guy. And he is such a genius. If you can, try to find translations of their lyrics, they are out of this world. 'Is dit alles' (Is This All There Is?) has a dub vibe and is about a guy who is settled: 'a kid, a house , a car and each other ', but is questioning if this is it. Also check out their collaborations with Herman Brood, another Dutch giant. And look at the audience: in their hey day, those were hot young girls -and you still see that in their eyes. Fantastic stuff.
Oehhh yea als je wint heb je vrienden heerlijk nummer
Its our Dutch nationale anthem for 30 years now, great band
Laurea Andrea make that 40 years. This song came out the in early-mid 80s. I know ... we are getting old.
This is going to be my best watched video from your channel I think 😂
The song itself is hilarious and your reaction makes it even better 😍
I love how youre digging the groove dude! Im really enjoying youre vibing on it!
Hope you'll go for more Doe Maar, my fave Dutch band!
As a ducth guy.... I am so happy to see you react to this. R.I.P Henny Vrienten
About the island vibes: a lot of Indonesians, Moluccans, Dutch Antilles and Surinam people brought the island vibes to Dutch culture😎
Also all Dutch bands owe a lot to the Indonesians
It's Bob Marley that brought us reggae. Smoking a joint with reggae music is still going strong in our culture for years to come. Reggae and weed are number one
Can you imagine that every schoolkid in the Netherlands in the 80s sang along with this song lol (I was one haha)
Imagine being about 12 years old in the 80's and singing such songs with your younger sister loud out even at home with your parents 🤣🤣🤣
Even my mother danced on this.
don't forget..little green bag is also a dutch song way older and mega hit used in reservoire dogs the movie
Watch the windmill in the back at the end of the song !!!!!!!!!!! That's what we dutchies are calling humor
Henny Vrienten the bassplayer leadsinger is an angel in heaven now. R.I.P. 😥 he was my idol when i was a teenager..he still be missed ❤🙏
This is our national anthem!! Thanks for your music Henny R.I.P
I love doe maar!! Some famous songs of theirs are ‘sinds 1 dag of 2 (32 jaar)’ and ‘smoorverliefd’. They’re great songs too!! Heroine by them is probably one of my favourites :)
I love Doe Maar, saw them a couple of times live and they were awesome.
Owww I love this song! Doe Maar is a great band. Most Dutch people I know know all words. Yep, me too. lol.
" The windmill broke!!"... Mannnn you high hahhahahahaa
One of my all time favorite Dutch bands! I saw them live numerous times when I was about 14/15 years old. And they did this song back then as well. Always one big party.... I saw them again 2 years ago. I'm very sad the bass player is now sick and they cancelled their comeback-tour for now. My childhood heroes xxx
watch the windmill in the back at 8.44..... thx for the request and the reaction, grts from a dutch wiedewiedeweetie in sjermaniemania...... cough cough...... peace !!
I love that this is just a fun lesson on how to grow your own stuff!
it's way more about the band itself but ye, the lyrics is quite educational
Neder Weed the most joyful weed ever exist. Specially for a good joint. The leader of `Sisters of the Valley` in the USA learned about Neder Weed when she was on vacation in Amsterdam in Nederland in the 70th.
The windmill is stoned 🤣

Great you listened to Doe Maar.
They where the biggest band in the Netherlands in the 80's.
I remember my sister crying her eyes out when the announced they where going to break up.
This video is from one of the revivals.
I was at this concert. Still one of the best concerts I have visited.
It's exactly that: a weed-poem mixed with a song! 😎🪴 Love this performance!!
Great to see you genuinely enjoy =) Doe Maar is awesome really. There are many good songs they made. Its quite a contrast that the man in the blacksuit that does the "background vocal" also made music for Sesamestreet (among other things. I think he is an absolute legend)
I tried this at that time, bought some seeds in Amsterdam and put in 5 pots outside. when the little points came out, the birds ate them straight away. That was not told in the song :-)
Doe Maar was famous for this kind of music. Ska music. One of the main singers, Henny Vrienten, passed away last year. This group originated from my city, Tilburg. So proud of that. My mom was a headnurse in the 80s when the father of this singer was in the hospital, mom had to make sure he got the proper care, he was terminally ill, and this band was so popular back then that girls tried to get to the floor in the hospital where his father was just to hope to run into Henny Vrienten. The hospital tried everything to keep the fans outside. It was very frustrating. We in our family knew way before the mainstream media news knew how bad and tenacious the hardcore fans were. Those fans kinda ruined it for the band and all the other normal fans of the band. They made fantastic music. They split up begin of the 80s, but got back together in 2000. My brothers and I and our significant others went to a concert of them.back then....so fantastic. Nostalgia galore 😊❤
I was there! Ath that live concert...one of the best concerts I've seen
"just the tip"hylarious :-)
Great i will have this song all day long in my head... at work!!!!! Great Great!!!! na na na weed weed weed...la la la

Great to see someones first reaction to "Nederweed", especially as we dutchmen know the song all our lives. (song came out in 1980)
I enjoy your videos. Just enjoy watching you smile. So fun to watch you are still getting surprised by some videos.
Geweldig ! Groeten uit Zeeland (The Netherlands) , Robin
I sang this when I was a kid. Didnt had a clue yet. too bad the singer/basist (not that guy that is singing this song), recently past away. Doe Maar was a very fameous ska/reggae/pop/punk band in the 80's. They did quit quite early in the carreer, because the success was killing them. All those crazy people shouting, crying, fainting, it was too much for them. Years later, they had several reunion concerts. The guy singing this song, was more from the background of the band. He wrote some song, but was mainly there for sound editing, playing horns. This song was his and he also did sing it on the album Skunk. Recently the lead vocalist and bass player Hennie Vrienten passed away, so that was the end of Doe Maar. I think this concert might be one of the last performances of the band, if not, the last.
Never needed to, never tried the stuff...but this live-version is of outstanding qualities! HxC, again, greetooz from The Netherlands.
Goosebumps right here!
Hahaha only in the netherlands. This how you grow realy dutch weed hahaha
