I was just wondering if by chance you would know what determines the airstrip end for take offs and landings at Auckland airport? It’s always been one thing that I want to find out about. I do notice time to time the ends alternate (for whatever reason). Cheers in advance!
Hi Ashneel, I generally just check what is currently occurring with runways on Flightradar however, if you want to predict the runway usage, I recommend checking the forecast winds for AKL airport which indicate the opposing winds in relation to the aircrafts landing direction. Basically, for 23L (from the east-northeast) you want winds that are S, SSW, SW, WSW, W, WNW, and NW, and for 05R (from the west-southwest) you want winds that are SE, ESE, E, ENE, NE, NNE, and N. Winds that are 90 degree crosswind i.e. NNW and SSE, either runway can be in use which may be tricky as ATC can alter the use at any time.
