Here's the timeline to date.
Season 1 Nov. 1983 (the kids are in 7th grade. Steve was a high school junior while Nancy & Jonathan were Sophomores)
Season 2 Oct. 1984 (The kids are still in middle school. Steve is a Senior. Nancy & Jonathan are in 11th grade)
Season 3 July 1985 (summer break for everyone. Steve & Billy have graduated. Steve is working at Scoops Ahoy with Robin, who is same age as Nancy)
Season 4 starts 6 months later in Spring 1986 (Erika is in middle school. The "kids" are now high school Freshmen.. Nancy, Robin, & Jonathan are seniors)
Season 4 starts with a flashback to 1979 - 4 years before Will vanished into the Upside Down. Eleven is about 8 yrs old in the opening scene at Hawkins Lab.
The Duffer Brothers have confirmed there will be a time jump for Season 5, but no word on how much or what year it will be at the start of it...
Billy was 17 when he died so I don’t think he graduated.

I don’t recall they ever mentioned his age on the show…but he most definitely was in the same grade with Steve and graduated… which even though it’s still cringy, him being “18” and out of high school is why all of the adult ladies around town keep eyeing him
@@Mrsamj1989 No, he was 18 in season 3. When you watch episode 4 "Dear Billy" when Max is visiting the cemetery, you see on the gravestone that he was born in March 1967. My birthdate is April 1967. So Billy's birthday was about a week after mine. I graduated in June 1985 at age 18, as did Billy. Season 3 takes place in July 1985, about a month after school let out for summer break. Instead of going off to college, Billy got a job at the local pool & Steve at Scoops Ahoy once they graduated high school. Season 4 takes place in March 1986, around the time when Billy would have turned 19 yrs old.

There does seem to be a theme in each season, doesn't there? Season 3 could have also been the attack of the body snatchers. Season 1 was classic monster flick horror.
s1 was pretty much E.T. s2 has bits of gremlins and critters. s3 was a bunch of the thing with a plot combo with invasion of the body snatchers.
Especially considering one of the guest stars this season, absolutely correct.

When this first dropped, the Duffer Brothers put a disclaimer on this episode because the horrible school shooting in Texas had just occurred. This dropped on or around May 27 2022. Uvalde occurred on the 24th.
Ugh still heartbroken over that massacre. Never let those cops or the people in government enabling it to keep happening live it down.

Seeing Arianna get more traumatized the longer this show goes on is a highlight of my day sometimes.
Arianna, it's funny you've been referring to Satanic Panic being reflected in this show, because Eddie actually IS inspired by a real-life victim of that stuff, Damien Echols - one of the West Memphis Three. (Not a spoiler, since obviously it's an entirely fictional character whose story arc doesn't really reflect Damien's but it's pretty interesting nonetheless.)
It made me laugh for a second near the end when they were like "oh so he really DIDN'T do anything to her, it's just happening on its own and he was only there to do some drugs with her..." Like how funny would it be (meaning humorous AND out of character for the show) for the big D&D guy at high school to really be a devil worshipping murderer with evil warlock powers.
Are you serious? Young Damien Echols was nothing like Eddie... I'm not taking away from the tragedy of the situation... Three dead kids and the young men wrongly convicted of the crime because of active ignorance... Horrible.... I don't recall if they even played D&D. They did listen to Heavy Metal music... My point is I never heard that Eddie was based on Echols...or inspired rather... I just didn't know... But it seems like s stretch to me...

I love the implication that Erica's now letting her freak flag fly to the extent that she's actually wearing an American flag as a cape to middle school. That's...a ridiculously extreme turnaround. Even uber-nerd Dustin was distressed when he realized that he and his friends were the only ones dressed up for Halloween back when *they* were in middle school.
I wonder if her little posse of friends that she used to hang out with at the mall still talk to her.

It's extra funny to me hearing someone admit that who runs a REACTION CHANNEL currently featuring a show about HIGH SCHOOL CHARACTERS. It's like she just blew off a prerequisite course for her senior thesis and was hoping nobody would notice haha.
This is where the real story begins.
This season and the first episode in particular is heavily influenced by A Nightmare on Elm Street. Even the ending with Chrissy floating up and getting crunched on the ceiling is a direct tribute to the ceiling kill from NoES. Even the monster's clawed hand = Freddy Krueger
This is my favorite season.
Why is Lucas bad? He is welcoming his friends to support him as he grows and expands and is still willing to fit in their old activities with them. No one is supporting him as he tries to explore life options.
I said the same thing. He did nothing wrong, Max puts down his passion for basketball and his invite then he gets called bad?
Exactly! OMG, a teenager doesn't want to be bullied anymore and would like to be popular! How callous! 🙄 He can like basketball AND D&D and he had every right to want his friends to come to his game. Nothing he said or did was unreasonable.
He was just bad at expressing himself. Which is fine.
That whole storyline was classic tropes of friendships evolving and needing to readjust to each other as people branch out and grow up. The show has always leaned toward the side of the outsiders - look at god damned ANGELA here - so not a shocker the initial reaction is to suspect Lucas's decision to pursue the "popular" image, especially when all of his friends were basically against him on this. But once he explained himself it was clear nobody was really in the wrong. Also some nice moments (in this ep as well as later) to show that Eddie's instinctive hostility towards the cool kids can be an overreaction.
@@trade5374 Literally every other one of Lucas's friends on the show gave him shit for his basketball thing, but it's definitely all about the girls on the channel just having it out for us poor men. Okay bud 😄 They said a few critical words at how he phrased things, then sympathized with him in the end, but I guess some skin is too thin for even that...

Angela reminds me so much of a bully I knew in school. Very smarmy, not very bright, utterly full of herself.
Didn't last long. Turns out being friendly with teachers has its perks and they look the other way when I delt with bullies in the only way they understand. She always gave me looks afterwards, but never tried to pick on me again.

It sucks that all Will wanted last season was to play D&D and they were not interested but now that he is gone and the girlfriends are gone they join a D&D club that Will would have loved to be a part of but he is in California with no friends anymore

@@TomVCunningham I figured she didn't put him in school because they had probably been backing up since September and they are moving so why have him even start at that school when they are leaving, but I guess just to keep him up to date in school so I guess there is a chance he met or saw Eddie but we don't know how soon into the school year they met him and became part of his club I figured it couldn't have been right away because they said that nobody wanted to be their friend until they met Eddie so it had to have been a few months in before they met him I don't think will got to know him before he left

IMO Sadie Sink (Max) deserved to be nominated for an Emmy for this season, unsure if she was or not? But she was great, along with Eddie's actor.
This season of stranger things is one of the best seasons of any show I've ever seen. It gets insane in such a great way. LOL. It's a lot scarier than the other seasons, but it's amazing. LOL, I cannot wait for season 5.

The sad thing is.. people who played DND and liked heavy metal like Eddie (named after Eddie Van Halen), really were frowned upon and looked down on in the 70s and 80s.. and.. even worse happened at times.. as DND was considered the "Devil's game" at times, people linking it to witchcraft and sorcery, and turning kids "evil".
But Eddie is so so good and awesome! What a great character to introduce.
This season is super intense and honestly really emotional. And it's one of the most "real" seasons when it comes to certain things.
Many metal bands were sued. Parental labels became a thing. Metal was very misunderstood.

This is my favorite season opener of the show. It was like a true teen slasher movie. I don't mind when the show focuses more on the real world problems the characters are having at times.
This is just the beginning, of Season 4, i knew you both were going to struggle with this one. But i'm telling you stick with it, because this season is phenomenal, darker but better than previous seasons combined.
Y'all should watch The Legend Of Vox Machina. It's an animated series based on an actual D&D campaign, specifically Critical Role's first campaign. It's got a lot of voices you'll recognize, including Travis Willingham (Roy Mustang) Laura Bailey (Lust, and Anna from the The Last Of Us part 2), Ashley Johnson (Ellie in The Last Of Us games, and Ellie's mom in the show), Grey Griffin (Azula), Lance Reddick, David Tennant, Stephanie Beatriz, Tony Hale and many, many more.

Sadie tops my list for acting this season.
Matthew Modine (Papa) used to be a heart throb. He was also Joker in "Full Metal Jacket". Other good films with him: Memphis Bell, Gross Anatomy, Wind, And the Band Played On (fantastic docudrama). He has a pretty huge filmography, I'm barely scratching the surface of all the stuff he's been in.
Sadie was perfect from day 1 but she definitely takes a step up in what's asked of her this season! and handles it!
The most memorable scene of this episode for me was Max 'Running Up that Hill.' Such a great song. And it was applied perfectly to the episode. Will call it Max's theme.😆
Jason (the football player at the pep rally who gives me the ick) will eventually become a Congressman, the Governor of the State of Indiana, and then serve as a one-term Vice President in 2016. He'll probably also refer to his own wife as "mother".

@@FLQueerLiberal1982 Scheduling is always the bane of D&D haha. It's not exactly fair to put it all on basketball, after all Mike's trip involves far fewer people than the game does, maybe HE should reschedule :P If Lucas is good enough and wants to be on the team, he should do it, but it does mean he'll have to accept scheduling will be harder while games are still happening, and his friends will have to decide how much they can reasonably accommodate him. A good compromise leaves nobody happy!
@@jerodast Yeah, as an adult I'm sympathetic to Lucas, especially since it's clear that none of his friends have ever gone to any of his games. His appeal to them was moving: he wants his friends' support for something that means a lot to him. That's a reasonable ask. As a teen, though, I confess that I'd have been totally outraged by one of my friends (a) blowing off the climax of an entire semester's D&D campaign for some *sportsball* thing, and (b) announcing his desire to be popular as if it were in any way natural to not want to be among the "nerds and geeks." That would have felt like such utter and complete *treason* to me as a teen! So I get both sides.

Hey girlz, loved your reaction, then again usually do. Ariana, u wouldn't be saying u love the period of "Satanic Panic", if u lived thru it. My younger brother was into D&D.
- I was carpooling w/my uncle's wife home from college, & had to listen to Christian Radio while in her car. The preacher was saying that games like D&D promoted evil & made people give in to murderous tendencies. I grunted @ that, & my aunt glanced over @ me saying "U don't agree?"
I sighed & said. "No, I don't."
She asked, "What do u believe about those types of games?"
"U really want to know?"
She glanced @ me again & answered "Yes."
"Ok," I responded. "1st off, games like that don't 'make' anyone do anything. It's fantasy! It has nothing to do w/Satan. My brother plays Dungeons & Dragons. Do u think my brother is evil?"
Her eyes widened in surprise & then she answered. "I didn't know your brother played that game, & of course, I don't think he's evil."
I added, "It's not the game, it's the person. If the person is already unstable, then yeah, they can take it too far, but it's still on the individual."
I had only heard of a couple of cases where the game was taken too far. One was some guy that still believed he was in the game & he stabbed someone w/a real sword. It was on the news.
Anyway, that's all I have to say about that.
- O, Chrissy is not pregnant. She's bulimic. That's why her mom was continually telling her she let her dress out for her. It was her mom's way of telling her she's fat.
- I despise bullies. Poor El, being picked on like that. She's struggling to deal w/the world as a whole & without her powers. I was bullied sophomore year of high school so I kind of know what it's like for her. I kept turning the other cheek until that person physically pushed me. Sick of it, I fought back, & weirdly enough earned my bully's respect. She never bothered me again & even became friendly towards me. Like I said, "weird".
This season is when the "feel good show" vibes really ramp up
i know an eddie. you prolly know an eddie. we love eddies. they're the weird kids, probably undiagnosed add/adhd, into music, sell weed at a solid price, they aren't gross to the girls you're with, don't judge you when you say you've had enough, bad at school bc they can't sit still to save their life but smart as fuck, did back stage tech in high school to hang out with his theater kid friends without having to actually Be a theater kid
Being a long time DM I feel like he is practically the theater kid too though :) But maybe not officially in school productions or anything.

I hated the Satanic panic times, I got pulled out of class once in middle school and interrogated, treating me like some kind of criminal/evil person. All because I liked video games and read D&D books. Also a couple of parents wouldn’t let their kids near me, and some even talked shit about my parents because they didn’t buy into the panic, which I’m so grateful for.
Ah, the D&D Satanic Panic. My parents and I had to have a bit of a conversation about that after I joined the Balrog Society at school. We didn't have t-shirts though.
If it makes you feel better, NO ONE was ready for...this. It's like the Duffer Brothers took all of their stress nightmares from the writer's strike and channeled them into the new season.

I feel like whether a viewer jumps immediately to "teen pregnancy" or to "bulimia" with Chrissy probably has a lot to do with the sort of high school they attended. They're both reasonable assumptions after the first scene in the bathroom, but it's interesting to me that viewers usually seem to jump to one or the other, hardly ever considering both as possibilities. (Later scenes make it far more clear that bulimia is her issue, IMO.)
@@elkins4406 I thought pregnancy at first too but as soon as I heard the mom talking in that voice in the bathroom and what she was saying I thought oh her mom is her enemy it's her fear she is bulimic.
