    I love the Kershaw Blur knives. Price point, design, steel and function have made it my EDC for five years now. I just ordered this version after your video. Well done and cheers from Arkansas! 🇺🇸🗽🦅

    S30V and Elmax are kinda similar from what I've read. A.G. Russell Knives has a crude steel guide on their website, that shows the composition of each steel. They're both powder steels. The S30V is 59-61 RC. Elmax is 58-62 RC, is a finer grain powder steel, has a slightly higher chromium content, and has a small amount of manganese- for extra hardness.
    I've never owned an Elmax knife, but my Manix 2 has S30V. I love the steel; it holds an edge like nobody's business, but if I were a betting man, I'd bet the Elmax holds a razor sharp edge longer.

      +SpearWieldingOctopus The Blur was my first Elmax blade, and it seems to be an excellent quality steel. Another good quality swedish steel.

    Good to see you out Freddy, I hope you are getting better. Snake, glad to see you back from vacation, I hope you enjoyed yourself.
    I've been a fan of Kershaw for many, many years. Although, when they did start making knives in China, quality got worse. So, I will only buy Kershaws now that are made in America. I love my Kershaw knives though, like little razors, they hold an edge forever and are true inexpensive work horses.
    Keep up the good work guys. Great job as always.

      +Gylmeh's World And don't forget they have a lot of cool looking designs. They seem to hit that sweetspot with a lot of their designs, but that's a personal preference of course.

    I have the same version, great light weight edc. As my tastes have evolved, I carry a/o knives a lot less but I still find myself carrying this occasionally.

    • @fireandsteel9790
      @fireandsteel9790  9 лет назад

      +JimmyRnj This is the only assisted folder I have, but I like both assisted and not. Well, it all depends on how smooth the opening is. The opening of this blade is some of the smoothest I have tested, and the spring dont seem to loosen up at all, after about over a year of use.

    That's a awesome knife Freddy Kershaw Blur is one of the best Kershaw designs. Love the look of this blade. If you don't like the spring you can take it out and use it as a manual knife. Just got sent 2 new pocket clips for free from kershaw because I bent the shit out of mine. Kershaws warranty is top notch.

      Neil The Knife Guy Good to know Neil, but I love the spring on it, and I think it's the only assisted folder I have. I do think there'll be more Kershaws in my collection in the future, that's for sure.Freddy

    Old-school 80s headbanger reporting in! Thinking about getting this shank, for a moment there I thought the dude holding the knife was going to shank the barbarian. Subbed.

    Seems like the recurved blade would be useful for better control of fine work in bush crafting, carving. Great review as always.
    If you guys want to make a vid on how you sharpen various cutting tools, knives, axes, tips and tricks on anything you are interested in, I'm always happy to learn more.
    On sharpening I have a few different pocket sharpening stones, ceramic rod sharpeners that came with fillet knives and bought on their own, a Buck tapered diamond rod that came in a camp and field set, and my leatherman wave has a nice fine file blade on it, I kind of prefer general maintaining an edge with it usually now. Ceramic rods load up quickly. Stones are one or two grit options each, usually not quite the coarseness for getting the edge I like. Hard to find a reliable sharpener I like.
    I made one compact light multi use grit surfaces book. Cut sheets of sand paper, emery cloth, into long ways strips 2 or 3 inches wide. One strip of each fineness of grit stacked in order, then stapled the stack. Use the range and graduation of grits you find useful. Folded it in the middle near the staple. Half the length of each x2, 5.5 inches on each side of staple and fold, to use. Make a few of those from one sheet of each grit, or one, and save the rest of the sheets for when you need that grit for something bigger. I keep one book in a pocket of a few different packs I use. Open the pages to the grit you want, and turn the page to the next one as fine as desired. Use it flat, slight curve, however best suits the task. Use one half for blades only, other half for sanding wood plastic or other materials, or alternate which side you use so it wears more evenly. Cheaper, more compact, lighter, more versatile and more uses than packing multiple sharpening stones, files, and grinding/sanding surfaces.

      +M Par That's a whole bunch of great tips M Par, you far surpasses me on the ingenuity of sharpen in the wild. I only have a Diasharp from DMT which is always in my pack, maybe not the easiest way of sharpen in the bush, but it sure works.
      I recently bought a motordriven wetstone for sharpening everything between heaven and hell. I'm into woodworking, and needs something that can sharpen chisels, scrapers and those things fast. I haven't gotten around to using it yet, but we'll probably put up a video on it, when I have it set up. I've seen a few videos of people using the same thing, and the tools just sharpen up like crazy, so I'm pretty excited to try it out.
      Thanks for watching M Par!

    damn guys looks like Kershaw is upping their game. I carry an Ontario model1 after getting it a few months back. Only paid like 35 beans for it and it's a little tank so far. I can't carry expensive folders because my stupid ass always loses them somehow after like a year. That bad boy looks cool as hell, great vid as always guys. Keep it real

      +Macho Deth The Model 1 sure looks like a sharp one. The Blur is the one I grab when I want to show off, which, of course, I do a lot. No but it's a nice looking sturdy knife, and I luuuv it. Thanks Macho!

    Great review guys, real nice looking knives, one i'd like to see, just for a bit of a joke review is one of those Timber Rattler Scarab knives, a 17 3/4 inch folding knife I reckon you guys would have fun with it and get a good laugh hahaha

      JustAnotherAussieBloke Holy moly, now that's one big chunk of folder! Pocket knife just doesn't cut it anymore, now you'll need a fishing rod bag or something to put it in. It would be fun to test it though. :)Freddy

    instresting review. over a year ago, my daughters boyfriend picked me up a Kershaw for Xmas at a gun show we were at. he couldn't believe I didn't own a Kershaw. its the scrambler. oddly enough, it is very similar in appearance to the blur. definitely sexy but not slutty ! no recurve. flipper. partial g10 on one side. love it ! downside, 8cr13mov. its OK because its only an edc used for small tasks but wish they had an s30v option and I would buy it. designed by R.J. MARTIN. of course it would run moe than 35.00 PAPA DUKES

      john rossi Sexy but not slutty. I'm trademarking that frase. The Scrambler looks pretty sweet. 8cr13mov isn't a brag-a-about-it steel, but it works just fine in my workhorsefolders too.Freddy

      +Fire and Steel yeah......people make a big deal about steels when they really just need them for everyday tasks. growing up fishing. camping and hunting, we only had flat grinds in 440 and some hollow ground folders and we got by. check with some old guys. PAPA DUKES

    You are correct about the limited ed. thing, they are discontinued now. I might have to get a Blur now... I do disagree on the "too expensive to use" thing tho, if i buy a knife i will use it, I won't pry with it or stress the blade, but it will get used.. I do collect them, and i've got some pretty pricey ones in my opinion, but first and foremost it's a tool :) Great review guys, I always get excited when i see a new video from you in my feed! Draenor Lately, I've been using one of those Duo-sharps from DMT, with fine and coarse grind. I also have some bigger diamond stones from DMT for reshaping and such, but I rarly use them. My newest purchase on the toolfront, is a wetstone grinder from a swedish company called Tormek. I haven't unpacked it yet, but I look very much forward to using it.Freddy

    Ha! Do your homework! I think people get to hung up on steel. What do you use a folder for anyway? Cutting string and tape when opening a box, opening plastic packaging and cardboard. Like Snake said 30-70$ knife is fine. As Long as it sharpens easy and can retain an edge. I'm a new subscriber and I love your videos. You guys are funny and don't take your videos to seriously. And I love your Metal background music. You act like two teenage boys laughing and having fun. Keep up the great videos!!

    Ken union is a great knife designer and he has designed a couple of knives I really like but I do think he is a little over-rated, when you ask annyone who's the best they say will ken onion, he designed a lot and I mean a lot of knives but I actually only like a small percentage of them, still he has designed more good knives then a lot of other designers. he simply made a lot, haha im rambling like crazy but he is just a little over rated in my opinion

    • @fireandsteel9790
      @fireandsteel9790  9 лет назад

      +MISTER AGB I'll take your word for it. To be honest, I've never taken much notice of who designs knives, unless they're really really custom and ...well... awesome. I do recognize the Onion name, but as you saw, Snake had to remind of the knife I already own from his design, the Chanceinhell. But again, my memory is the worst in history so there's that too.
