    Another great episode James! Always look forward to another of your videos. I’m not a spearo but there is so much to learn just as a line fisherman. Some terrific fish nailed also. Great Spaniards & a lovely Moses perch, both fantastic eating! I never knew we got purple cod this far south although I caught a Māori cod in the Macleay river years ago. Once again great entertainment and a real credit to you. Stay safe out there mate, cheers!

      Thanks Mark glad you enjoyed it. Our local line fishers are well aware of what’s happening spearfishing wise and they are smart enough to use the information to get on the fish. We all get along pretty well here which is good for everyone. I’ve got Maori cod as far south as port Stephens actually inside the bay. Thanks for watching!!

    Hi mate. Couple of really nice mackerel. Watching the intro I was surprised I thought you were slow on the head shot but you’re obviously aiming further back. No reel gun ever for you?

    • @jamessakker2117
      @jamessakker2117 6 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching!! I always aim between the dorsal and anal fins as it the best holding area on the fish as the fins are stitched in with a lot of cartilage. The problem with head shots is 1 a smaller target 2 if you are behind the head slightly you can gut shoot the fish and rip out 3 Spanish have razor sharp teeth that can easily cut your shooting line. I am not a fan of reel guns especially without a float for safety and to not lose your gun when you get the inevitable muzzle wrap. I do get the advantages of a reel gun but I get everything I need without one

    Hi James..awesome fish in poor vis of 4 meters.!just curious your thoughts on where big Jews go in March if they not in usual shore gutters?One of my dive buddies saw Jews around 30- 40 kg a few days ago on an offshore reef mid nsw coast ..is that where they go?

    Hi James. Have ever had any issues with Ciguatera in Nsw with Spanish mackerel. Any way to tell if a fish might be affected? Cheers

    • @jamessakker2117
      @jamessakker2117 6 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah I’ve had one fish that made my friends family sick it was 23 kg. I think qld fisheries will test them for you if you keep the frame and head I’ve taken about 400 fish to put that in perspective

    • @Daveo7
      @Daveo7 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@jamessakker2117 sounds like it's pretty rare then especially in Nsw. Cheers

      I just remembered that fisheries did a study and about 1 in a 100 tested positive for cig it also depends how much you eat and how often. The fish that affected my mates family depended on how much they each ate my mate is a big unit and had no symptoms his 28 kg daughter ate 9 pieces over 2 days and ended up in hospital for a few days others had mild symptoms including the cats
