Should we be flying airplanes right now?

  • With everything happening right now, I've been having the personal dilemma about whether I should be flying my Grumman Tiger. You have to ask what are the pros and cons of flying our airplanes during stay at home orders? What are you doing to maintain flying proficiency? I think it's important to find the balance between all these things.
Also, my airplane was overdue for a plane wash!!

I see no issue and have been flying weekly, weather permitting here in the northeast. I leave my house in a rural area, drive to the airport, solo if the Mrs isn’t along. Enter my code in the key pad, after wiping it down 😁 first, then to my hanger. My airport is quiet, even on weekends without the virus, so it’s pre-flight and fly. I haven’t run into anyone at the field to date, not that it matters.
So unless there is an all out ban, I be flyin

Your videos are always fantastic. Always happy to see a new one! I've been flying my tiger out of KFUL twice a week through this pandemic. Being bartenders, the wife and I are both out of work and the kids (twins!) are home from school. Getting away to fly my plane a couple hours a week is all I have to try and hold onto what is left of my sanity. If someone has a problem with that, I really don't give a shit to be honest. The way I see it, I'll match your six feet social distance and raise you a few thousand! I've just been staying in the pattern, and we've had a nice consistent 8kt crosswind for a couple weeks straight at Fullterton allowing me to really work on my crosswind landings. Stay safe, wolf! Loved your Victorville vid too BTW, all those beautiful planes grounded combined with your soundtrack brought a tear to my eye...

Our club is still flying. We clean the interior after and before each flight, and we social distance at the airport. We fly from a private, pilot controlled airfield, and mostly just stay proficient and sight see around the area, If we are smart and careful this should be an acceptable activity. Our state is not on a state ordered lockdown, we are all just doing the recommended social distancing, and being smart. Thanks for sharing your flight with us, I am always happy to see a new Wolficorn post. Stay safe.

You are isolated in your car to the airport and totally isolated in your plane. There is no reason not to go. As long as you are taking proper steps to distance from other people and neither spread the virus nor are in close contact with others, go for it. Life did not end with this. Our lifestyle changes but in your case, do what you must to maintain your proficiency. There is no reason to throw away something that was that expensive to get in the first place. Even as a non flyer I take the car out pretty well weekly just to get the engine warm and get some take out food.

I wouldn't worry about it really. I haven't met or spoke to anyone that has caught it. I don't even know anyone, that knows anyone that got it or got sick!
Then finally on August 15th, a friend of mine told me that their friend supposedly tested positive for it. They had NO symptoms, they did not get sick & the other 6 people in the house did not have symptoms or get sick!
Is it really anything to worry about if most people don't get sick or have symptoms?
I haven't even heard from anyone on RUclips that knows anyone that got it, honest to God!
Not one single person on RUclips & I am on here every day messaging people. I have been off work since the middle of March!
Has anyone else personally met anyone that got sick from it???

More planes need a slider canopy! I don't have a license so I don't fly. I had intended to start working on acquiring a private pilot's license almost a decade ago, but C-YXD being closed down kind of made that a lot harder, since it would be at least a 45 minute drive to get to the other smaller airports here in Edmonton.
Can't even get my fix of watching airplanes, despite regularly delivering out by C-YEG, as there's so little traffic right now. it's so weird seeing the skies pretty much clear all the time, or driving down airport service road and not even have ONE plan taking off or landing...
