I'm confused by the thinking that Hronek could have been done for under seven. Devon Toews is a comparable contract and he's not as good a player, then you've got guys like Darnell Nurse at 9.25 and Seth Jones at 9.5. I wouldn't want either one of those guys on my team at Hronek's price tag. Just take a look at the top 25 highest paid d-men in the nhl and Hronek's contract looks pretty damn good.
Devon Toews most certainly is a better player than Hronek, but he signed his big ticket at age 30 as oppose to age 26

@@irubanomlas I mean I guess that's not out of the realm of possibilities, but I'd say for that to happen Hronek would definitely have to find another level in his game more so than counting on Toews regressing, and I don't see Toews showing any material regression in his game coming anytime before he turns 33
In one or two years, Lekkerimäki, Willander and D-Petey should be joining a decent core/team. As for a speedy winger for C-Petey, that was supposed to be Mikheyev. Here's hoping he finds his hands this coming season.

Well, I wasn't happy about the deal for Hronek, but that said maybe in 3 or 4 years it may look better
The game is played by having players who are overperforming on whatever they're paid. The easiest case to see is when you have a bunch of rookies being paid $1-3mil/season and they put up close to a point per game...

I imagine Edmundson is getting a bit of a raise this offseason ($2+ million) with someone and a lot teams could use that size, even if it's just to flip him to a playoff team at the deadline. I want Vancouver to resign Zadorov, but not if he asks for the Moon.
Why would Edmundson get a raise? He was making 3.5M the last four seasons and he's been kind of injury prone in that time

Corrado played 5 games with the Pens. Let’s not pretend Frankie was “buddy buddy” with Guentzel . Sekeres glazing him like they spent years and had long playoff runs together 😂
Likely spent more time up with the pens but healthy scratched. Ur still with the main team that way and practice. Just don't play unless a guy goes down
@@anthonyr.5697 yeah u might be right, but that’s like asking Mark Friedman what Nils Hoglander is like on/off the ice. It just doesn’t make that much sense. Guentzel was only a couple years into the league and wasn’t as established as he is now. I’m sure his game and personality has changed since he’s come into his own now compared to his first few seasons in the league. Also doesn’t make sense for Frankie to play it off like him and Guenztel were tight in any facet. Corrado was just a black ace defenceman, Guenztel a top 6 forward. It’s okay to say “you know in the short/limited time I spent with him..yada yada yada”. But to play it off like he knows Guentzel really well and that he was giving an accurate assessment of Jake Guenztel in 2024 is silly and on brand for this show. Guentzel isn’t gna get paid $9+ mil for mediocre skating and mid level defensive play. He’s a well rounded vet.

I didn't hear him say he was "buddy buddy" with him. He just related a story that he joked around with him in practice, and he was a light hearted funny dude. Didn't hear him say they were swapping spit in the showers after the playoffs. There always seems to be someone who wants to belittle people because they think they're clever & pessimistic. You weren't there, and you never played in the NHL at all, so....

Bertuzzi becomes a UFA soon. Could we not sign him for 5 million and then send Miks and a 3rd for Laine? Assuming they would retain 2m cap of course.
I dunno if that gets Laine, maybe without the salary retention it does
