@@_MKSN the drums on the record are extremely crisp & tight with very little reverb. lots of closed hi hats that "slice through" the instrumentation in a really nice way (probably due to compression or other mixing tricks) but here in the live version there was a lot more open hi hats and it sounds like a live kit rather than sampled drums (because ya of course it is a live kit, but it could be mic'd and mixed to sound more like sampled drums). there's nothing wrong with that per se but it's not really characteristic to Kiefer's "sound" he's defined over numerous records. It's one of the things that sets him apart from a more traditional jazz artist. His drums are much more hip hop / lo-fi
Love Kiefer! He was a top listen of mine on Spotify by a mile! Had a great chat with him and his buddy Colin before a show in Boston this year. Did something happen to a B key on his Super 8? 😦
I don't understand where the synths in the background are coming from?!?!?!? Is Efajemue hitting some space buttons in the drum machine behind him or something, was it recorded afterwards???
Hey, where was that 4 chord theme in "Doomed" taken from? Anyone? It seems familiar. There's some extentions or what but I seem to recognize it and can't pinpoint the song..
these live drums just dont hit the same as the programmed ones on the album, all too common with live versions of hip hop drums. JD Beck and of course Questlove are noteable exceptions, they understand how to eq live drums to give more of a hip hop sound.
Preferring programmed drums to a live drummer is strange.especially when the drummer is this good.i haven't heard the album.but this sounded great, apart from the bass being too low in the mix.
Everyone loves Kiefer.
MAAAAN! The bassist had my stank face for the whole time!
I love kiefers music, but I like the live trio versions much more! It would be awesome to have a full album like that
think he's gonna release it soon!
the improvisation is cool but the live drums really ruin it for me :(
@@djestouff how so ? (dont have the drums in mind rn)

Always love seeing his life performances.

Absolutely mesmerizing. Kiefer deserves infinitely much more appreciation!
Kiefer is a precious freaking gem. I hope he keeps pushing.
Creative blending of styles by Kiefer never ceases to amaze me. Well done.
What makes you say it is blended? What is it blended with? I want to follow his inspirations!

Superhero slaps.....so......hard. Love love all his recorded stuff, but live the band really lifts it up!
That's Amazing!
The rythmic textures! out of this world

I noticed that key too haha
Nicely chilled with eggs sunny side up...😊
Have to put my earphone on to hear the bass.

yes plsssssssssss
Damn shame we couldn't hear that bass because everything else was dope.
This set is lit! Bravi ⭐
Kiefer is the kinda guy you want to drink a beer with.
Damn it.
What did he do to that defenceless bass?
kieferss music
Dat broken key on the top keyboard ❤
Bassist is there for moral support
w performance, bass could be turned up just a tad tho
These guys are super funny
Can we get this on vinyl??
I don't understand where the synths in the background are coming from?!?!?!? Is Efajemue hitting some space buttons in the drum machine behind him or something, was it recorded afterwards???
There's a click track, which is why they are wearing headphones. I think it's running through Ableton
Dopest one yet
8:28

I think it's from this song called "Doomed" by Kiefer, released a couple months ago
@@henriquealejandro7247 oh come on.. 😀 that's not to be meant as a diss against the band 😀 inspiration comes in my forms
@@gretchentruscott4274 hahahahaha I know man, I was just kidding around. Wish I could help you but I don't know
A rare miss for KEXP- no bass.
The problem is that it is the keyboard player's band, and he won't stop playing... 🙉
@@daviduribe3111saw him on tour, you could hear the bass fine then. This is the KEXP mixer's fault lol
Is that DJ Spooky?
Why no bass?
Can’t hear a single note of that bass
Is the amp even on 😂
Jus
Feel
😂
I thought it was just me
With cans, and cranking the volume, it's not too bad. The drummer using open hihats and heavy cymbals does bury it though
The bass volume kinda too small 😅

How does the host get the name of his employer wrong at the end of the vid? IJS
Fix the fuckin mix KEXP come on howd they let this one slip
Nice composition. It's a pity that the rhodes is simulated by a Nord keyboard, which I find so lacking in dynamics and poor quality.
когда пытаешься дозвониться до оператора
bass is so low in the mix
too many notes
lovit, awesome
