Wow, just wow. Ruelle’s amazing vocals, and the lyrics. Just beautiful. The lyric ‘I can’t help but love you, even though I try not to’ really just speaks to many queer individuals who are closeted and/or can’t come out because of the environment they grew up in. I love that Shadowhunters used this song for the Malec scene in 01x12. I read the books before I watched the show, and I looked up the lyrics to War of Hearts and I actually cried. Especially when I remembered in City of Ashes Alec had said ‘I never thought I would enter the Silent City. Not even in death’ this poor kid thought he wouldn’t be allowed to be buried with his family, his brother, his sister, his people, just because of his sexuality. I just think that this song was the perfect choice for that scene, and I don’t think any coming out scene will ever beat the raw emotions I felt watching that.

This song was made for malec! Because in the beginning Alec does try to fight his feelings for mangus. He trys to fight it so much with the honest upfront flirting mangus does. He almost marries Lydia for the family sake but I feel like in reality you could see how he was trying to fight his feelings for mangus even more so by doing it. Then magnus makes this big appearance in the middle of the wedding and this probably caught Alec off guard, in that moment Alec probably thought he "came here just for me!?". Remember Alec was in Jace shadow right? so used to everyone else looking at Jace that was where he looked too, so used to living in Jace’s shadow that he didn’t expect to be seen. Maybe it was enough to be the first person to tell Alec that he was worth being seen ahead of anyone in a room, and of being looked at longest.And silver, though few people knew it, was a rarer metal than gold. Mangus saw Alec he knew Alec was rare so he went for it. Alec tried his best to fight those feelings even though sometimes he did stutter with mangus and was lost of words that boy tried to fight it. But at the wedding he was tired of it, He actually let his feelings threw for once and he couldn't breathe when he saw mangus. He couldn't help it anymore so basically he said fuck it and kissed the man of his dreams. The part if the song where it's like "I can't help, but love you even though I try not to" that was Alec finally moment of staring at mangus until he walked off that stage thingy and gave that man a smooch. From where we saw Alec in season one to season three his character has developed a lot and in a way we have mangus to thank for that to. Also it's vice versa because mangus has change as well remember when he said " you would risk your life for a Shadowhunter" in the beginning and now look he would risk his life for Alec and Alec would do the same for mangus. I don't know about you guys but this ship to me is the greatest one alive their love is so real it's so beautiful and I love it!. This song describes them so well in the moment where Alec gets tired of fighting it and where mangus doesn't hide anymore from his new relationship. In a way they are both risking something and from what I can see it was worth it risk. No one expected them to fall in love they are different but they work more than they will ever know. #IloveMalec ( I really hope they have a season four omg we need to see more malec)
