Callan was an anti James Bond. He was as good a killer as 007, but was seen by his superiors as expendable and lived a solitary, miserable life where he was paid to kill people and possibly be killed himself if he slipped up, so had to keep going in his profession. Also Lonely as his only friend summed up how grim things were for him.
I'd like to watch the whole play and make up my own mind as to its quality. Set 9 years after the regular show ended I think it featured George Sewell as the bad guy and I hope someone posts the complete story one day.
This was a remake of the original story "A Magnum for Schneider" made in 1967. So Thames Television thought that since this already made, it would be a waste of time redoing the story and so ATV Midlands took it instead.
On a side note - is it me or is Edward Woodward wearing a toupee? I have watched all of Callan, and it just seems he is wearing one. Just a little side thought.
Callan was the best tv thriller series ever produced.
Gotta love Lonely, he's so funny. He's looking very clean and smart there lol. X
He even looks like The Equalizer in this.
Only 4 years away...
Fabulous stuff
RIP Edward Woodward
Class shear Class, I must have this, amazon here I come

1980s, greyer hair, glasses, less of the London dialect. I know this is Callan, but I feel like I'm watching Robert McCall.
I've just ordered this
DVDs No good if you own an iPad is it?
This was uploaded in 2011 - an era before iPads and online streaming became the norm.
And why did ATV produce this and not Thames?

17 Krugerrands would have been worth quite a bit in 1980. Callan was no fool.
Too bad no region 1 DVD :(
