I might as well clarify for those who don't have the patience to watch the first minute of the video: The reason that I am comparing these two is that one of these was the direct result of the other. The Emoji Movie exists because The Lego Movie exists.
The fact that Emmet is a construction worker is actually an integral part to the story. Construction workers always follow instructions given out, which is why Emmet struggles with genuinely good ideas of his own, and it limits his ability to have his own personality, since all he does is help others for his job.
You forgot to mention the brilliant satire included in The Lego Movie. It doesn't take itself seriously, which is why it's so great. The characters of bad cop and Vitruvius are there to make fun of the fact that the actors who voice them typically play characters with similar personalities, the movie's plot line is making fun of the fact that many movies feature the same "chosen one goes on an adventure" story structure, the "everything is awesome" song is meant to make fun of the fact that movies tend to use generic pop songs on their soundtracks, as well as serving as a satire on pop music itself, and the character of emmet is meant to poke fun at the fact that the protagonist of a movie always has some sort of Quirk, something different from all the other characters. Long story short, The Lego Movie was poking fun at cinematic tropes, which made for a legitimately enjoyable watching experience. The Emoji Movie, on the other hand, was nothing more than mindless product placement and plagiarized ideas.
I disagree with the idea that Emmit doesn’t fit in within the LEGO movie. He fits in so well that he is boring and no one remembers him. Instead of doing the usual thing and having the hero always be on the outside, it has the hero be completely and utterly normal, unlike the Emoji Movie
The Lego Movie was making fun of the fact that the protagonist of a movie always has some sort of quirk, making him different than the other characters. The Lego Movie made fun of a lot of different cinematic tropes, which is why it was such an enjoyable watch.
That's called the "Everyman" trope -- a normal character who explored the extraordinary. So Emmet fits this trope very well because he's a regular construction worker who was living in a society until he ended up being a "chosen one". He becomes one of the "extraordinary" at the end.
Tyler W when i found out they never say ”Lego” in the movie i was blown away i thought it was impossible to make a 90 minute movie LITTERALY CALLED THE LEGO MOVIE where they don’t say ”Lego” at any time
Why is Lego Movie better then the Emoji Movie? 1. Lego. 2. It´s a Lego. 3. A movie about Lego. 4. Sequel looks good. 5. It has a Sequel. 6. Sequel was fantastic. 7 Chris Pratt. 8. Everything is Awesome!!! 9. Spaceship, spaceship, SPACESHIP!!!! 10. Easter Eggs. 11. Using a wrong brick while building and realising it later is more life threatening situation compared to sending a wrong Emoji. 12. 501st Battlepack
The difference is that The Lego Movie had an engaging story. And fantastic animation. And lovable characters. And great jokes. And a fantastic message. And kick ass battles. And loads of creativity. And awesome voice acting. And Chris Pratt. And Morgan Freeman. And Liam Neeson. (Continues to ramble for hours)
the difference between why the lego movie is good and the emoji movie isn't is called writing...writing matters people...its why some shows succeed like adventure time or spongebob and some don't sadly...effort and rewrites and even arguments are good in making a show good...the simpsons would never be liked if sam simon and james l brooks hadn't stepped in told the writers to ease back on jokes and make it more heartfelt early on ....it means the people working on it care...if everyones just nodding agreeing no disagreements than its probably gonna be shit...less time means less vision which means emoji movie...lets just make money guys..thats the thought process
@@zeeyadb77 At least one of them has *love* put into it. Emoji Movie is a soulless cash grab trying to appeal to an audience of teenagers. Lego Movie is very well contending for the title of a cult classic. It's just a great friggin' movie.
The uses of the Lego pieces itself is pretty clever too like how the two headed characters have Identity issues or how the super glue is like a dooms day weapon and nail polish remover is like seen as a death sentence.
Lord Helix The "it's just a kids movie" excuse is just fucking pathetic and overused.....and being a kids movie doesn't mean it has too be stupid and unfunny.
One of them is one of the most iconic toys in the world that were still popular from generation to generation and still popular today and it all started from a toymaker in a tiny town in Denmark. and the other is a bunch of faces
go look at what Disney's "Told by emoji" videos do... because honestly, Those really show a good amount of the untapped potential the Emoji movie had but didn't bother with.
I'd have to disagree with your summary of the plot of The Lego Movie. Yes, there's a "ordinary guy finds himself and saves the day" thread, but the true core of the movie is that the whole Emmet portion is an allegory for a child having conflict with and then connecting with his father. That's the true plot, and although it's not an untapped trope, it's definitely not as common, and the notion that the epic adventure is an allegory rather than something that the father and child actually go on is pretty unique.
Another reason it worked is because the product being advertised, legos, are mainly targeted towards children and people with creative and wild imaginations, the enemy of that was a mature father wanting to be serious and rework things to make more "sense" and whatnot. The father and child conflict in parallel to legos who built wild, fun things and legos who wanted to keep things safer and more "sensible" was perfect in another sense, that you could either build the real world into a smaller lego world or you could go nuts with your imagination and build to the limit of your ideas. The fact it had also considered both builds as equally important was amazing. Not only did they represent legos as fun for all audiences, but they also told a heartwarming story. Lord Business' redemption arc was short but it worked out because he was also an allegory for a father who was originally serious and shot down ideas his child had, but then he started to understand the child and play with him. Overall this movie was just a 9999999/10 beautiful never done before complete masterpiece
Are you high? That's just the ending part. It's more of an addon to the story later on. Like a big reveal. It's not the point of the whole story. While watching it, you don't just think "oh, yeah this is a son having relationship problems with his dad". Before the reveal all it is an analogy of creativity/freedom vs perfection and basic key standarts.
@@sashka9399 The ending part? It's shown in pieces throughout the movie. And yeah, the ending of a story tends to be where the moral has its climax; that's how stories work.

AniBear15 Going point. There is no painting since they put no effort into it. Don’t tell me the animation was good. Very animated movie in the last year has good animation
Fun Fact: At 6:15, this isn’t an actual line. This was just Morgan Freeman getting agitated at his lines being constantly changed, but the directors left it in since it was funny.
The one difference that truly matters: The LEGO movie is one of the best animated movies of this decade. The emoji movie is one of, if not the worst animated film of the decade.
I think it just goes to show how good the visuals are. In live action movies with only a few pieces of cgi people can usually tell, when to this day some people thought that every piece of cgi in this film was real.
Not to mention: You can actually make stories and scenarios out of LEGO, because they're designed to have that sort of creativity -- and the minifigures allow you to act them out in the first place. Emojis, on the other hand, were designed to be nothing more than props for text messages. There's no character, there's no scenes to build out of them. It's just texting. That's it. Not a whole lot of story to be written there. Admittedly, they probably _could've_ made a good movie about the inner workings of a phone, but emojis might not hold the amount of potential required in order to be such a movie's primary focus. Maybe as a running joke, but _definitely_ not the focus.
The animators wanted to make sure every scene could be done at home with a stop motion camera if a person wanted to just like with the classic Brick Films people make. They animated every frame to be like that.
The fact that it's Phil Lord and Christopher Miller who wrote and directed it, you know it's gonna be damn good. Lego Movie could've been a lot worse if Lord and Miller didn't make it in the first place that eventually launched a succesful franchise
14:34 The Lego Movie has so many great background moments with the characters if you're paying attention. Batman mentions to Lucy in this scene here that "He's the hero you deserve." To which Emmet is confused, despite having feelings for Lucy, he believes in that moment that Batman isn't talking about him, which is why Emmet turns around, thinking he's referring to someone else. To which Lucy moves Emmet's face meet hers as a way of saying 'It's you, you doofus." I don't know it was just a humorous moment of character consistency to show that he's still pretty naive, or that if Emmet genuinely believed that he wasn't good enough for her, but either way, good stuff!
Thats what makes the Lego Movie so good, they have so much little details, and even the Lego Movie 2 still payed tribute to the original in a small way in the other, hell Lego Movie 2 didn't make some dumb reason why Emmet can't masterbuild anymore and still can. Thats what makes the Saga so good, it still honors the other and are still so amazing
The Lego Movie is ACTUALLY Funny at some points, made fun of itself and the real world and had a purpose. And followed something beloved for decades. Emoji movie had no purpose and was based on something no one actually has fond memories of.
Joel Hornburg no one should have memories of emojis. Sony basically said "oh hey kids nowadays use those emotions on their phone? well lets make a movie so that they will relate." The worst thing that a company could do is make a marketing campaign about emojis and sadly more and more companies are doing this. It is extremely cringy when you use an emoji like once or twice a week and then that's what you are associated with. Its just companies trying to see what kids are into nowadays and its for some reason its something that kids rarely use that Sony decides to make a movie on. Some kids don't even have phones. I feel bad for the people that will grow up with movies like this.
Bad Cop having two faces was, in my opinion, so damn clever. I always wondered why some LEGO minifigures had two faces and if they were self aware of that (I was a dumb kid, don’t judge me).
I think Batman v superman did it better, you said Batman v superman copied civil war which is not true because marvel copied D.C So....saying Batman v superman copied Civil war is wrong.
Darth Raptor I never said they copied them. I was replying to the one user, saying that he was correct, then giving another example, don't put words in my mouth.
Here's another reason why Emoji Movie sucked, it was super illogical to the point it never understood anything it showed on the film including the Emojis themselves. A smile was not the first emoji, it was a heart. They - point blank - DID NOT DO THEIR HOMEWORK.
@G I B U S No? It really is the movie in itself that is atrocious, because one of them was the "Should we wash our hands?" joke, for example, and that's not the only thing wrong with The Emoji Movie.
when me and my friends were forced to see the emoji movie when it came out we came up with a game that every time we cringed at it we would eat a single piece of popcorn. We ran out of popcorn pretty quickly
Though he somewhat touched on it, I think what really made The Lego Movie stand out for me was the fact that Emmett’s story and adventure was all an analogue for the son wanting to play with his father. It still makes me tear up thinking about the ending, funnily enough. 🥲😊
To which I think is pretty hilarious when the true plot gets immediately undermined because Finn's dad decided to also let Finn's sister to play with the Legos, and Finn's immediate reaction was a literal music pause. I mean, the second movie _did_ show that Emmet tried to make an ammend with the Duplons, but it didn't exactly worked out when Finn's sister's chaotic playing nature involves using unconventional approaches
@@DTheAustralian it had no heart put into it. It was just them trying to make a quick cash grab because they thought the public was full of idiots that will watch anything.
@@Saddsol The Lego Movie had no heart put into it? The Lego Movie was just them trying to make a quick cash grab because they thought the public was full of idiots that will watch anything? Is that what you're saying?
Omg! This isn't related to this comment but I just remembered when I used to have a weird crush on Good cop (NOT BAD COP) when I was... *CRAP! FORGOT WHAT AGE I WAS* But yeah... it was weird!
If I had a nickel every time there was an animated movie in the 2010's that involves Will Ferrel learning to be a good guy, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
I feel like I agree that the base plot was pretty stock, but at the end they really pulled a fast one and focused in on the dad and his son, and that part almost had me on the verge of tears. It was really heartwarming.
I think a really good point on what is wrong with the Emoji Movie is how it handles the concept of a tiny fictional world acting as a parallel to the real one. In the LEGO Movie, the world of LEGOs acts as a unique window into the real human world that built it. The different lands are divided, separated, and kept perfectly in line, just like how "The Man Upstairs" likes them, with a place like Cloud CukooLand being a dump for random creations made by Finn. We learn a lot about Finn through the way how much of the characters act, and how their reactions to Lord Business, a stand-in for his Father, mirror how he feels about his Father, how he doesn't appreciate the unique creativity that he wants to show. The Plot revolves around this conflict of the humans, yet they are only properly introduced part-way through the third act. The film was so good at letting us understand WHY they are like that that the fact we only saw them in the flesh for a brief moment, we understand everything perfectly. In the Emoji Movie, the connection with the kid to the phone is evident, the phone affecting his life in reality happens constantly, and the conflict in the phone fixes the conflict in reality. The problem? We know virtually nothing about him! Barely anything they do in the phone tells us about what he likes or does or acts. Gene doesn't even act as a good representation for him, either, as his conflict of standing out too much in a society that demands conformity barely is a factor in the real world. Hell, we even go through his photos and nothing is really learned from him. And in the end, what does this all lead up to? The emojis ask a girl he likes out for him. That's it. What about her does he like in her? What is their history? Do they send texts constantly? Maybe his chat history can tell us more about his character? Wait, her name is his password for his phone? ... That's... kinda creepy... Basically, there is so little focus on how the kid is as a human, that LEGO movie gets right and the EMOJI movie fails at, and I feel that's a big problem.
Reminds me of a review I read of Inside Out where if you took out all of the scenes with the emotions and only left the ones with Riley you'd still have a coherent storyline It's basically about Riley repressing her feelings to the point where she shuts down completely
Now, the emoji movie could work if they actually tried. What could be more interesting is if we never got to see the kid, but information we learn about him from his phone activity could be an insight to his struggles, like putting together a puzzle. It wouldn't make sense for gene to mirror the kid, as he is a random emoji, but it would be interesting for us to get a window into the kids struggles through pictures, texts, search history, subtle clues that tell us whats really going, AND maybe the kid could have a more interesting, serious and relevant problem that isn't getting a date with this girl he has a crush on (which is kind of a stupid boring and generic plot) But this movie is stupid. So that would never happen. Also i hate animated movies about the internet anyway. They are always terrible, because doing a movie about the internet means you have to personify different aspects of it and it usually ends up being stupid and embarrasing. Looking at the internet from the perspective of an out of touch adult writing the script makes the internet seem like its some cesspool of people making cringy references and self absorbed attention seeking users. Your are bound to make dated references because it takes years for a movie to even be made. When the characters explain the way the internet works, you get this vibe that the writers don't really understand this place themselves, and it just feels uncomfortable, like someone from the outside looking in at this weird culture they don't want to get involved with. I can't exactly it properly, but I really hate movies that acknowledge the internet like this. The only animated movie I've seen that seem s like it was written by people who are part of the internet and portray it in a realistic, albeit comedic way is the Mitchells VS the Machines. SO BE LIKE THEM MORE OFTEN, SONY.
The issue with the emoji movie, put bluntly, is that it was far too heavy-handed and self-referential. The LEGO Movie didn’t shove the fact that it was legos down your throat or try to sell you stuff- it was subtle. Its universe retained a sense of general realism. The movie does a great job of taking a cherished childhood toy and shaping it into a masterpiece of cinema. The emoji movie, however, is solely based upon a tiny, insignificant portion of most American’s lives. It even manages to be questionably offensive towards teenagers. Emojis just aren’t a loved enough thing to make a movie about.
Here's why the product placement part in the Lego movie was so good compared to the emoji movie: The lego movie is literally called the lego movie. So lego is what we expected The emoji movie was about commercials. So emoji was what we were expecting, but wasn't really given
Jutin :p they were gonna make a popeye movie instead.. Imagine the guy who made the idea and the guy who made the trailer when they find out they were gonna make this movie..

don't forget that you trip on that one Lego you stepped on and get your hand impaled by a nail, lose your balance, only to fall off of a stairway, remembering as if it happened to you as a baby, having your mother walk out on you to move to mexico, and impaling yourself with a pencil to end most of the pain during school hours on campus
the only parts that were true that happened to me were the falling off the stairs and the mom moving to mexico, plus, i'm pretty sure that I didnt waste any money that is yours, but you did if you saw the e movie( i don't want to say the name of it
"just smarter enough" I think not, The lego move is superior in every way and is actually funny and the master builder part seems kind of original, the characters are original, the movie isnt like other LEGO movies where the necks bend like they are rubber, The graphics are nice (atleast on my 4k TV) Now the emoji movie... One word. *T R A S H*
Odyssey Gaming Actually, some brickfilm creators use the style of the bending limbs and necks a lot. Due to the fact I’ve seen it before, I was rather impressed at the fact that the filmmakers decided to go for it in both. Plus, I loved when Ninjago Movie used some more real world elements, like water and the jungle. It felt like when a kid puts their toys in the backyard and uses the grass as a jungle. But yeah, I would say that the LEGO Movie story wise was way superior to the Emoji Movie.
Odyssey Gaming um that last th8ng isn’t a word it’s 5 letters in caps spaced out witch aprantley is in the oder witch spelled the word trash but they are letters
Nathan Jones I do and lossing them is normal, I like it when I find buried bricks a year later, I'm like "hey I remember you, it's time I built you into something"
The Lego Movie was so good because the entire movie was the real life kid's imagination. It was his story, and he was playing it out with the toys. It's all so believable, that the creativity, plot, and cast are the way they are, is because the writers of the story wrote it as if it was all pulled from an actual lego game a kid made up. And they did it perfectly.
The fact that the filmmakers pulled out a lot of crossovers from different universes makes it even better. Most people (myself included) likes to play Lego sets and just put a bunch of random characters in it. For example, me playing with the Lego Millennium Falcon and somehow put Lego Batman and Dumbledore in it. And here in this movie, we have a Millennium Falcon with Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Lando riding it meeting Batman in one scene and me sitting there watching it be like "Yeah, that's how I played with them". Or in The Lego Batman Movie where Joker somehow teamed up with Voldemort, Sauron, Godzilla, and others non DC characters to beat Batman. That's like the most accurate thing in how to play with your Legos 😂
@@techy804 And besides a few small moments (like the 8 years later title card being an actual photo, but that was a still image, so it's still not stop-motion).
7:10 Now this is the kind of inner conflict I like seeing for several reasons 1) It is actually kinda realistic, Job vs emotion 2) It actually made me see good cop as a cute character 3) It is kinda funny to see the face spin around really fast and 4) it's one that makes me back up...
Also, the fact that the LEGO movie was a legitimate family movie, while the Emoji Movie builds up on the fact that it’s “internet” and “cool” and “trendy”
The reason why I love the Lego movie. It's basically a love letter to every Lego stop motion movie ever made by fans It isn't made like the Playmobil movie which basically just lose their plastic physics, this just made it more fun to watch and humbling at the same time.
And they made the movie exactly the way somebody plays with Lego by putting a bunch of random characters in one movie. I mean, Gandalf and Dumbledore as the Master Builders together? Man, I remember putting them together in my Lego Batmobile 😂😂
The LEGO movie is one of my favorites from recent years... I never saw the emoji movie, but what they did was kind of genius...they took something they knew that everyone would hate and made it...and because it was a terrible idea in the first place, people would want to see it for the laughs and parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles/elder friends would buy it or bring the child to the movies because they thought that the child would like it knowing how the youth is when it comes to electronics. The LEGO Movie...fam...get your act together...I still hear that movies quotes and use them myself today... Emoji Movie, wasn’t bright if they wanted positive feedback. But they got their money, right? Since that is all they care about... The LEGO Movie did good because you could tell that they put a lot of heart into it...and well, LEGOs are loved by almost everyone! -unless you step on one- People actually wanted to see that and didn’t regret giving their money up to watch it! :’) Plus, LEGOs are a part of a lot of people’s childhood.
I never watched the emoji movie because i already knew exactly waht kind of movie this is when i watched the first trailer. The LEGO movie on the other hand is still in my top 10 favorie movies. (Mostly because of stupid jokes, references and of course... Because its lego.
The difference is that my dad went and bought a lego set after watching the lego movie despite being 60. He went and smashed his smartphone and switched to a feature phone after watching the emoji movie despite being a software engineer.

When the lego movie came out I was in an animation class and my teacher got us tickets to see a premiere about a week before the movie was actually widely available. (He would get tickets like that quite often through his industry connectons) but I was one of the few who went to see it because even as middle schoolers most of my classmates thought it would be beneath them. After the premiere my teacher worked his butt off to get tickets and a bus for the rest of he class because he wanted them to watch it
AnimeWeebXD FunLadXD I mean the main plot(not the kid and father plot) of Lego movie IS star wars, but if leia wasn’t lukes sister and leia left han(batman) for luke. I mean even the kragle is just the death star(there is no sideous fair point) unikitty is like r2d2 and c3pi, vetruvius is clearly ben, orrrr yoda? Actually I was wrong darth vader is good cop bad cop, business is sideous. Benny is hmmm chewbacca maybe? The analogy falls a bit here and there but you see what I mean.
AnimeWeebXD FunLadXD Like Star Wars invented the bad robots that are black with a red eye, I mean... It's a fucking evil robot, red and black are the main colors you would use to make an evil robot.
The Lego Movie was surprisingly incredible. The voice acting, the animation, like you said! Even Lego Movie 2 was OK… kinda weak compared to it’d predecessor but I hope Lego Movie 3 is just as good as the first if not closer (and I hope that they don’t underuse Will Ferrel or Liam Neeson again)
The animation is my absolute favourite part of the Lego movie. It’s just so fun and wacky, a far cry from all the other ‘lego’ films where the people and maybe some vehicles are the only things made out of the stuff. It would have been a good movie anyway, but I would not like it nearly as much if it was just generic animation.
What are you talking about? I assume you mean that *you* didn't want a Lego movie because if not, then you're just wrong. Let's put what I'm saying this way. Kids play with Lego, both new kids and kids who have gotten older are fans of Lego. The Lego movie has a very clear target demographic. Kids barely know what emojis are, teenagers use them ironically. (Most of the time) Most adults despise emojis So who is the target audience of a film about guy trying to get a birch who judges him based off of the emojis he uses??? Or could put it another way Kids play with Lego. They make their own stories with Lego. They are a fan of Lego. Of course they would like to see it brought to life. The Lego film was a good idea. And we'll, we all know why no one likes emojis. The main point is that, trust me, kids and people who used to be kids wanted to see a film dedicated to Lego. (Even if you didn't)
Nah nobody wanted a movie about fucking phone icons........however......lego movies have almost always been good.......remember that one funny lego starwars one? The empire strikes out?
"Compare to the Lego movie where I have seen Emmet save the day in a way I think I have never seen before; he appeals to lord Business' humanity." Er... I agree with everything in this video except for that line. There are plenty of movies that have the protagonist talk a villain into stopping their evil plans.
Yeah, but everytime the villain just refuses and goes on a rampage in which he becomes dumber and weaker for some reason, just to have a battle with the hero. Than the hero does a backflip, snaps the bad guy's neck, gets the cute girl and saves the day. The only other time I remember seing something similar to LEGO's end was in Naruto vs Pain, and it was awful, not because of the talking but because nagato just ressurected everyone which made everything before and after pointless.
@@KYRA_RISING i know it's a two year old story sorry, Usually what I see in story, is that heroes appeals to villains humanity THEN defeat the true villain^tm or the villain behind everything (Take paper mario Wii, where nicolaïs realize there's no reason to be a villain anymore, and then dimentio take his place instead. Or in cartoon, they tend to take the "main villain" who is an underling (zuko (which was amazingly done) finally to fight ozai, steven universe didn't appeal to white diamond's "humanity" but shamed her by making her prove herself to be imperfect, in shera catra joined the good guys to defeat the Big Bad Hordak (sorry I don't remember a lot of animated movie so I'm talking cartoons)
I think what made the Lego Movie so good is the fact that at the very end of the movie, it shows that Emmit's whole life is just a child playing with his toys, and that all this is just its imagination. It makes it seem like the kid really made this whole story up all on his own! Especially how there are all these figures from random sets thrown in here, like Batman, and how Cloud Coocoo land is extra pieces from a bunch of sets. Meanwhile in the emoji movie, the emoji's are pretty much alive and are doing thing on their own. The kid isn't imagining them or anything, they just kinda decide to exist.

I think another thing that helps the Lego movie is just how charming the animation in it is. It practically looks like stopmotion, the arms don’t bend the particle effects like water and explosions are all pieces, the sets are all Lego pieces. It’s a really nice homage to the product and to the huge amount of people who make stop motion lego videos
To be honest, she was right to try and delete Gene. He was a risk to the phone and entire community; as a danger to those around him, he should have been exterminated from the start as a defective emoji. It was a bit selfish of Gene to run off- although it would be a darker outcome, it would be much more beneficial to the overall community of emojis and way faster.

I watched The Lego Movie in the cinema for my 9th Birthday. The only thing I actually remember about it was that my friend licked the floor. The next year later we went to Build-A-Bear, she licked the floor there also. Good times.

The word "Lego" is never mentioned in the Lego Movie. The Emoji Movie is just unwatchable.

The Lego Movie has so many great background moments with the characters if you're paying attention.
Batman mentions to Lucy in this scene here that "He's the hero you deserve." To which Emmet is confused, despite having feelings for Lucy, he believes in that moment that Batman isn't talking about him, which is why Emmet turns around, thinking he's referring to someone else. To which Lucy moves Emmet's face meet hers as a way of saying 'It's you, you doofus."
I don't know it was just a humorous moment of character consistency to show that he's still pretty naive, or that if Emmet genuinely believed that he wasn't good enough for her, but either way, good stuff!
"It's you, you doofus" Lmaoo 😂😂
Thats what makes the Lego Movie so good, they have so much little details, and even the Lego Movie 2 still payed tribute to the original in a small way in the other, hell Lego Movie 2 didn't make some dumb reason why Emmet can't masterbuild anymore and still can.

The Lego Movie is ACTUALLY Funny at some points, made fun of itself and the real world and had a purpose. And followed something beloved for decades. Emoji movie had no purpose and was based on something no one actually has fond memories of.
the purpose of the emoji movie was for bored 17 year olds on flights lol
Joel Hornburg no one should have memories of emojis. Sony basically said "oh hey kids nowadays use those emotions on their phone? well lets make a movie so that they will relate." The worst thing that a company could do is make a marketing campaign about emojis and sadly more and more companies are doing this. It is extremely cringy when you use an emoji like once or twice a week and then that's what you are associated with. Its just companies trying to see what kids are into nowadays and its for some reason its something that kids rarely use that Sony decides to make a movie on. Some kids don't even have phones. I feel bad for the people that will grow up with movies like this.
ofek shaltiel the purpose was for quick conversations not to analyze a smily face and make a movie out of it

Nice point
Reminds me of a review I read of Inside Out where if you took out all of the scenes with the emotions and only left the ones with Riley you'd still have a coherent storyline
It's basically about Riley repressing her feelings to the point where she shuts down completely
Now, the emoji movie could work if they actually tried.
What could be more interesting is if we never got to see the kid, but information we learn about him from his phone activity could be an insight to his struggles, like putting together a puzzle. It wouldn't make sense for gene to mirror the kid, as he is a random emoji, but it would be interesting for us to get a window into the kids struggles through pictures, texts, search history, subtle clues that tell us whats really going, AND maybe the kid could have a more interesting, serious and relevant problem that isn't getting a date with this girl he has a crush on (which is kind of a stupid boring and generic plot)
But this movie is stupid.
*nods repeatedly*
Your comment deserved more likes. You nailed the point.
Here's why the product placement part in the Lego movie was so good compared to the emoji movie:

don't forget that you trip on that one Lego you stepped on and get your hand impaled by a nail, lose your balance, only to fall off of a stairway, remembering as if it happened to you as a baby, having your mother walk out on you to move to mexico, and impaling yourself with a pencil to end most of the pain during school hours on campus
@@Some_subreddit_guy this day is ruined
the only parts that were true that happened to me were the falling off the stairs and the mom moving to mexico, plus, i'm pretty sure that I didnt waste any money that is yours, but you did if you saw the e movie( i don't want to say the name of it
Lego: EVERYTHING IS AWESOME
Emoji: EVERYTHING SUCKS
Everything is meh
You are a life saver
Everything is trash
Emoji Movie: Everything is cancer, every is trash in the Emoji Movie. Everything is cancer, when that’s the movie
NOTHING SUCKS IN THAT MOVIE
Christian Paystrup but no one takes their Lego outside unless they want to lose half of them
Tammy Kat its which
Nathan Jones I do and lossing them is normal, I like it when I find buried bricks a year later, I'm like "hey I remember you, it's time I built you into something"
LEGO movie was beautiful! dude like I was surprised on how they made the scenes and the stop motion was nice af!
It's not stop motion.
@@malenodonaghue9868 well yes and no the Lego movie is a animation stopmotion hybrid.

Also, the fact that the LEGO movie was a legitimate family movie, while the Emoji Movie builds up on the fact that it’s “internet” and “cool” and “trendy”

It's basically a love letter to every Lego stop motion movie ever made by fans
It isn't made like the Playmobil movie which basically just lose their plastic physics, this just made it more fun to watch and humbling at the same time.
And they made the movie exactly the way somebody plays with Lego by putting a bunch of random characters in one movie. I mean, Gandalf and Dumbledore as the Master Builders together? Man, I remember putting them together in my Lego Batmobile 😂😂
They made "The Lego Movie" for 60 Million USD. They are rolling in that money.

Don't dare to use emojis in a emoji movie critizise video.
-unless you step on one-
People actually wanted to see that and didn’t regret giving their money up to watch it! :’)
Plus, LEGOs are a part of a lot of people’s childhood.

There's gonna be a Lego Movie 3?
Eh, for me the second part was even better
You're wrong. The emoji movie was a terrible idea in the first place.
The Lego movie is something everyone wants to see.
Lil Zally nah no one wanted that the LEGO movie
What are you talking about? I assume you mean that *you* didn't want a Lego movie because if not, then you're just wrong.
Let's put what I'm saying this way.
Kids play with Lego, both new kids and kids who have gotten older are fans of Lego.
The Lego movie has a very clear target demographic.
Kids barely know what emojis are, teenagers use them ironically. (Most of the time)
Most adults despise emojis
So who is the target audience of a film about guy trying to get a birch who judges him based off of the emojis he uses???
Or could put it another way
Kids play with Lego.
Lego like the childhood toys of everybody. What about emoji, nah some of them will be forgotten
Nah nobody wanted a movie about fucking phone icons........however......lego movies have almost always been good.......remember that one funny lego starwars one? The empire strikes out?

@Luigi Marinus Vlogs Most of the movies sony makes has a bad sequel, so what happens when a bad movie gets a sequel?
"Compare to the Lego movie where I have seen Emmet save the day in a way I think I have never seen before; he appeals to lord Business' humanity."
Er... I agree with everything in this video except for that line. There are plenty of movies that have the protagonist talk a villain into stopping their evil plans.
Just because such movies exist doesn’t mean they’ve SEEN them. There’s a difference
Also it was during the time when they started doing the 'villans humanity 'thing
@@dinamosflams wow wow wow wow wow wow
@@KYRA_RISING i know it's a two year old story sorry,
Usually what I see in story, is that heroes appeals to villains humanity THEN defeat the true villain^tm or the villain behind everything
(Take paper mario Wii, where nicolaïs realize there's no reason to be a villain anymore, and then dimentio take his place instead.

He was a risk to the phone and entire community; as a danger to those around him, he should have been exterminated from the start as a defective emoji. It was a bit selfish of Gene to run off- although it would be a darker outcome, it would be much more beneficial to the overall community of emojis and way faster.
