Its weird seeing defenses of Smackdown's lack of wrestling. "The draft is the focus, why are you expecting wrestling on your wrestling show" like...wat.
The little things about The Dudleys picking that bothered me more than it should. I thought they were going for actual glasses in a "We're old now" kind of joke until I saw Bubba Ray had actual glasses on his shirt. Also, why were they drafting for the wrong shows? One of the biggest Draft moments was the Dudleys getting split, but they drafted for the wrong show they got split to!

I don't know why WWE even bothered doing a "draft" if it's likely just gonna break the rules in about a week or so.
But I thoroughly enjoyed Collision and Rampage more than SmackDown.
It seems a more efficient way to do this is Smackdown gets to announce five superstars they are taking from RAW, and Raw does the same on their show, with some supplemental moves done post draft. Granted, that’s less showy
Well said. Your not gunna be able to draft the entire roster with the amount of picks they have and only 2 nights of drafting so that leaves too many “free agents”

Wish they brought back the old WWE Draft lottery from 2010/2011. Such a superior system.
I love the ideas about making the draft mean something/making it more interesting, but we had this conversation....last year. Nothing really changed, it's a bunch of legends struggling to make the draft talk interesting, a few NXT stars get added but most of the main stars stay on the same brand (networking stuff), and a bunch of lower card people get announced off show. They're just taking advantage of the NFL Draft hype and don't put much thought into it.

I have no clue why all these podcasters want the acclaimed to break up. The tag division is thinner than a sheet of ice. The acclaimed are REAL LIFE over. Not twitter or youtube podcasts. They get a loud pop every time they show up either backstage or in ring. Theres always acclaimed merch in the crowd. Yeah Im over all the Acclaimed slander.
I say just ditch the draft altogether and just have wrestlers "sign" to the brand of their choosing in Kayfabe and allow for brands to "trade" wrestlers as well. Gives brand image and brand loyalty to wrestlers and opens storytelling avenues with trading

Collision was superb, hopefully AEW continues with the momentum.
The WWE draft was one of these events that could have been an email.
And Collision had almost as many average cable views (399K) as Dynamite (683K). Granted, Dynamite was on at 5PM in the afternoon on the Westcoast due to being preempted by the NBA Lakers playoffs game. Still, it shows that more and more people are discovering AEW Collision. It's quite an underrated show.

If you look at Melo's positioning in the air, he thought he was jumping into a Cody Cutter, but Cody stutter stepped.
Instead of having the draft be on raw and smackdown, have its own show. Maybe a draft ppv, maybe a special like battle of the belts that compete with collision? Something different and gets it out of the way asap.

They should have the draft setup like how expansion drafts are setup or like the Rule 5 draft in the MLB where the brands have to allocate protections for specific wrestlers and have different PPVs factor in to it like have a Survivor Series match that’s for an extra pick protection or have situations where wrestlers sabotage other wrestlers into being unprotected. Basically things like that especially if the WWE wants to be goofy and have it take place around the same time as the NFL draft
I want them do what they did before like in 2004 where all the rosters were under one roof and the RAW Roster is in one room and NXT could be at the PC or ONE room and SD in one room and then have the GM’S do the picking. they could have like Hall of famers and past people helping them with picks or they could do like they did in 2004 with the tumbler and pull names out randomly. But I liked how we got the rosters reactions to who was getting picked. And they could do trades during the draft and they have a deadline to enter trades after that deadline the rosters are set and no more trades can be made.
to add onto what tempest was saying about trades, it also sets up the future war games potential down the road maybe in a year
I would like to see a "Trade Deadline" kind of roster change. Maybe do it leading up to Summerslam with the rosters locking after that show. I think they said the champs staying was just for "this first draft of the new era," or something, but I wouldn't mind maybe having the #1 Contender going into a show traded and then "Ooh, maybe they'll win and take the title with them!" Or if they win they get to stay and a secondary pick, either the former champ or another person goes in their place.
Agree on the storytelling leading up to the draft. One addition: every few years, have a storyline about tensions between a major star and a GM, with the star insisting they won't report if drafted by that brand. There's a lot you can do with that storyline, from a straightforward transfer to the other brand to the GM drafting them out of spite and using that as leverage for a trade, etc. If it's a person who needs a break, especially for health reasons, you could build a holdout into the story. Make it mean something.

If they wanted the draft to be more sports-like, only draft NXT stars to the other brands. Then do trades but have the trade deadline be the Royal Rumble
They gave Carmelo a re-debut on Smackdown match much like Cena’s debut SD match. Lose to the guy of the brand but gain a ton of respect in the loss. Show people why he’s a 1st rounder.
I believe that a good way to implement the WWE Draft. Is 1. Stream it on their RUclips channel so it's not impeding an episode of television. Have half the draft be the picks and the other half be trades.

What happens to Rampage when it's added on to Dynamite/Collision??
Ooh! What if it was leading into Survivor Series for Draft/Trade Deadline? That show could have first time/been a while matchups, farewell feud matchups, and maybe some stakes to brand scores or just straight Survivor Series matches if they want to do that again. Maybe winning brand is authorized a champ trade, if they want, maybe Survivor(s) gets a guaranteed spot(s) in the final five Rumble entrants. (Maybe minus 30.) Idk I liked brand warfare, though I'll admit it could be done *much* better than it has been.
Could do contract signings as a backstage segment, could do them for bigger shows as a press conference style thing, but for the most part, yeah they could be less often.
Props to the 4 guys in the front row who took their shoes off when the GYV were in the ring.
I wouldn’t mind seeing the return of interbrand matches for the right to the next pick, that way you can have some stakes to the wrestling for that night and create suspense for who will get the most picks (granted they’d likely make it pretty even to avoid bloating one brand but still I think it’s more interesting). You could even have the wrestlers you don’t want to be drafted be the ones to compete and establish that if you compete then you are ineligible to be drafted.
Here's how I would fix the redundancy of brands re-drafting their own stars: prior to the start of the draft, both brands pick 3 men and 3 women from their respective rosters to "lock in," in essence taking them off the table. Otherwise, nobody is allowed to re-draft their own stars. Anyone who isn't a champion or "locked in" is on the table.
draft needs to be only new talent moveing not brand retaining or everyone is a free and then the rosters completely change
Night one NXT callups. Night two Trades. Night three NXT offers.
Simple. Makes each night an important moment of the draft, but now you have a reason to spread it over 3 nights of different gimmicks and NXT is actually involved. This gives you a kayfabe reason to send people to NXT now as well.
I'd make the picks/trades to a minimum and secretive. Not anounced. That way you could get the crowd to pop and set up a new grivalry.
Agree with the LED lava lamp look, I hate it. They had the short sequence during the Jay White match where the LED was broken, so it was just turned off during the picture in picture and it looked SO MUCH better. I find it so distracting to have animated LED walls behind the wrestlers, I can't focus on the wrestlers anymore. I wish they would turn these off or go very neutral with a black and white logo, so it still has the brand recognition but doesn't distract.

Really enjoyed Collision this week! I feel like everyone is fantasy booking Ospreay to win the belt at All In..each to to their own of course, but I think there’s a solid argument for Mariah to do the same, she has been sensational in this role and Toni is just going from strength to strength.
With Smackdown i think yall nailed it on head, although there was a lot of stuff I enjoyed personally. Carmelo/Tiffany/Cody all get big ups from me
The draft should be a 1 hour network special. All three brands get 10 picks.
I like the trade deadline idea as well.
I want them to do a draft pick where raw picks what smackdown was going pick etc makes the draft seem unreal by them never having the same choice

Missed opportunity. My suggestion would be Raw and Smackdown get 5 picks to take from the rival brand, plus 5 picks each from NXT. Create more intrigue, plus more investment in emerging talent. Tag teams count as one pick, but not stables/factions.

What if the draft went as follows, each brand drafts wrestlers from the other brand/NXT. Those drafted then wrestle each other for the right to decide their fate. Winner of each match decides if they stay or go while the loser has to do the opposite. Example among the Raw draft picks Kevin Owens and LA Knight are picked. On the following Smackdown we have KO vs LA Knight, KO wins and he decides to join Raw while LA Knight has to stay on Smackdown. For NXT calls ups they go to the opposite brand if they lose. Champs and injured wrestlers can not be drafted but they can be traded for another wrestlers or draft picks. Tag teams can be drafted together but factions (three or more ppl) can not.
I do not think Jack Perry will face Swerve for the title, but the return of Hangman Page might.
So what if they announced after mania that everyone but the champions are now brandless so for the three weeks until the draft. And then you have people on both shows to build excitement to as how may land where 🤷🏻♂️
They should do the Draft in December since they take it off now
Wwe needs to watch Draft Day and try to have their drafts more like that.
Also how they used to do the drafts in the early years with having matches for draft picks made it more interesting cuz you've seen someone get drafted twice in one night, you'll see someone lose a match and be the one who got drafted away.
Also when you could make trades early on like when bischoff traded the dudleyz and booker T for Triple H was a great play.
Even the very first draft where Vince and Flair would counter pick each other throughout the night of smackdown made the picks more interesting than just saying four picks at a time.
They need Brand free agents. Where the free agents are draft eligible. NXT is always draft eligible. Make 8-10 rounds. Involve trades…

I definitely agree with Tempest and Dan on The Acclaimed vs. GYV…I definitely enjoyed the match and maybe it was Collision and Rampage had a high energy…but the GYV should have ran over The Acclaimed and Daddy Ass, also especially let Bowens go singles or join BCG.
Also, the last act of the match where Max is on the outside for VERY LONG MIND YOU and Bowens is in a 2 on 1 against the GYV…that is when they should have been beat.
It almost gave me the Triple H vs. Booker T at mania 19 feel.

I’d love to see Nia Jax join the newly forming Bloodline. Imagine her bringing the women’s championship to the group.
Can't wait to see Kiana James lose a 2 minute singles match then disappear off TV for months until there's a gauntlet match.
One fix I think could be done is to make the draft pool on Smackdown be just Smackdown superstars and similar on Raw. So then every pick is either Smackdown saving someone from Raw or Raw poaching someone from Smackdown, and vice versa.
And either brand making a pick from NXT is effectively sacrificing poaching from the other brand or protecting someone on your own brand
I was excited for the draft, I hoped that this could shake up each show. The bloodline on raw, maybe the awesome truth on the same brand as cody(since the titles don’t need to be color coded, you could have the world championship design on the show with the piss yellow belt), but no. Nothing drastically changed, except Nia frickin Jax and bron breakker(and Kiana James which is cool, but I feel like she’s gonna be the Cameron grimes of the women’s division). Smackdown killed my excitement for the draft, it’s going to be interesting to see how different the draft is on raw, but I don’t really care who goes where.

Way to make the draft better: say every year after mania for 3 weeks on raw smackdown and nxt everyone who is not a champ is trade eligible. Do not announce the trades until the end. Imagine trading Solo for Balor and Solo shows up on raw after mania and everyone wonders who he was traded for , then balor shows up on Friday.
The idea of the draft seems to be done to give former stars a pop. It’s really more of a format to see where the NXT stars are going.
I am in 100% agreement regarding the Acclaimed. Max and Billy make me stop paying attention and just in the ring, a lot of their teamwork feels a lot less... smooth than you would think after all this time of them on TV. GYV looked great in the ring, unlike their gear because woof.
First off, the draft needs to serve a purpose and have meaning in order for it to work, period. It has to improve the rosters in multiple ways and not just be pointless. I feel it should be directly after WrestleMania and not a couple weeks later. If WrestleMania is where storylines end and the Raw and Smackdown after Mania are literally the "reset button" shows, it would make sense to have the draft then.

Rampage was really good, it was live after Collision. It had a women's match with a tonne of story to it and character development, criticising the company is entirely invalid if you just blatantly ignore whole episodes of TV.
Not to mention a parking lot brawl that was fantastic with a big angle and overlapping storylines with the womens division as well.
And lastly a very good tag match featuring Shibata and Garcia the latter of whom is so over with the crowd and the mstch itself had a bunch of fun 'little moments' as you say.
Feels like the only way AEW can have actual time devoted to it is when theres a controversy to drive clicks
