How to get rid of Boxelder bugs for under $5

- In this video I show the best way that I have found to get rid of / control Boxelder bugs for under $5 (if you already have a sprayer).
I make a simple mix of Ajax (citrus), approximately 10 fl oz , and 1 gallon of water in a spray bottle and spray all visible bugs and the surrounding areas.
If sprayed sufficiently the bugs will die within a matter of 5 to 10 seconds.

Stinkin’ bugs even survive being vacuumed! Thank you for the comprehensive video. I’m determined to take them down!
The shop vac was my first go to as well... yeah no dice with that one.
Thank you! Will be trying this asap. These things have gotten worse and worse year after year and now they are starting to come into our home, need them outta here!
I have them bad, we built on a nature trail with tons of trees, alot of the trees are box elder and maple. In fact our HOA requires every house in our subdivision to have a maple tree in their front yard as the subdivision is called the maples. Never had a problem till last year and we built 15 years ago. We will be using this method because my husband has Parkinsons with can be caused by insecticide and herbicides. Thanks for sharing this and adding comments!!
You're welcome! It sounds like last year was the year they moved it. Just be consistent and once the bulk of them is gone, it's sort of like weeds, they will always try to make a come back so it's about consistent maintenance to prevent chaos.
These bugs are crazy ridiculous in the fall in KS. Thanks for the advice 👍
At this point, I don't believe they can be defeated. It's like the cyborgs in Terminator 2. I've come close to throwing up the white flag but that feels like failing my daughter. These things haven't been a problem every year but when they come, it's incredible.
Like any form of pest control, we're stuck playing the long term maintenance game. Just discovered that they are on my newest house... I'll be pulling out the AJAX and sprayer once again.
Diatomaceous earth around the parameter of the house or building, especially where the sun hits. An old lady told me about that trick....kills all other insects too...a big 50 lbs bag is about $20
very helpful I used the same method and it is very quick. They died like in 10-30 seconds.
I would try removing the decorative wood stuff around your house, it seems to be what they feed on, ive dug out a few weed like bush plants that they were congregating around and they all seemed to dissapear after that. We also did dawn mixed with water and that has the same result. My next step is to plant some stuff around the house that they hate this spring, i read lavender, spearmint, peppermint Mint, clove, sage, garlic, and eucalyptus is some of their dislikes.
They were there long before the decorative wood.
Thank you so much for this video. We were getting inundated with these bugs indoors during October…tried diatomaceous earth and new weather stripping and they were still getting in. Spent about $3 on a giant bottle of citrus Ajax and one spray session later, bug incidents are down almost 90 percent. It was also helpful for identifying cracks indoors where they were hiding…a few sprays in the right places and the bugs were RUNNING! Lol. Sanity = restored!
haha you're very welcome! Stay consistent to keep them at bay.
They run very fast,or take off flying.
Thank you…good to know I’m not alone in the boxelder battle.
I thought the same thing. I figured there had to be others with this problem, but I didn't expect there to be so many and from so many different areas.
I kill stink bugs with dish soap, they are similar looking, so i thought that would work, this is definitely the best solution I've seen to date thanks bud
You bet, thanks.
Thanks man they start coming out 2 weeks ago in Chicago area in February
I had a bunch of these bugs crowding on my trees (australian flame / tree / Brachychiton populneus). So I used the hoover (vacuum cleaner) which can suck up fluid. I mixed dishwashing liquid and water into the barrel of my hoover - and vacuumed my trees, sucking them all into the barrel. (the family was very entertained by me vacuuming trees) however - it worked a charm! They somehow tend to just pop back again - so the process needs to be repeated - I will now spray the trees and affected areas too...thanks!
Consistency was key for me. I hoped it helped!
Eggs are on leaves, make sure you treat your trees by spraying leaves in spring and fall! I have a outdoor sprayer that was used to wash windows, like windex because it sprays high. Fill it up with soapy water spray tress, yard, roof, and siding. Mainly get eggs on fallen leaves. It helps. Bugs fly around and I have several pine trees. They enjoy sunning on south side of house.
I did the Dawn dish soap with water in a spray bottle but that only killed the ones that the spray came in contact with and I had to drowned them to kill them. It did nothing to keep them away so I ordered Harris Asian Lady Beetle & Box Elder Killer after watching a RUclipsr rave about it. Amazon reviews seemed pretty promising as well. I’ll be updating under my comment once I receive the product and test it out.
Thanks much and I.know you will have a blessed EASTER 🙏
You're very welcome! Happy Easter to you and I wish you the best!
Worked great! Thanks for the video.
Thank you, Im going to try this.! It’s my first year dealing with this bugs and yes it’s frustrating. Sometimes My whole wall looks 🤢
Not exactly the most pleasant thing in the world that's for sure.
Me too !!!
I talked to you last year and I sprayed all last summer. I was so happy in the spring I only saw one bug through the end of April which they usually start coming out in early March. Right across the street from me they did a big construction project and cleared about 20 acres of field and trees. Within a week or ten days I had all of their box elder bugs swarming my trees. So I sprayed all of this summer again until the very end so we'll see what happens next year. Lol.
haha thanks for the update! Turns out I found them at a home I was flipping. Followed through with the same process and wiped them out, but just found newbies trying to make a come back. The never ending battle, but proof it works!
I have a shit load in my yard, I love my elder tree. I am been using all kinds of stuff on them I am going to try this this weekend.
I hope it worked as well as it did for me.
The live in silver maple trees. They vacate the trees in the winter when sap production decreases. They find warm places on the house, typically south facing walls.
Cool video. I'm currently dealing with them again, from Salt Lake City.
Good luck man!
Same
Up here in the cascade foothills near Mt. Hood in Oregon state these Alder bugs are a nuisance. I’ve tried several different treatments with minimal effect. I will try the citrus Ajax beginning in late winter to early spring and see if I can get a jump on them. Our cold season is settling in now so I will prepare! Thanks for this video.
I wish you the best
We have them bad here Glendale/ Grant's pass area.. they just started now that it's getting warmer.. will try this method.. but right now they have made it to the house. My mom read sage and oregano oil. See if it works.
Gracias por el video.
Blue Dawn works good too. Those bugs have a wax coating on there bodies, the soap dissolves it and the water drowns them
Dawn detergent with water is very similar, doing this again now. Just found some bugs in the same garden with mulch as a year ago when it was infested. Getting them dead quick this year.
OMG...I hate these little sons ofa guns!!! I've been fighting them for a couple years, but not consistently. This year I am on the attack!! Sprayer+super super hot water+Dawn dish soap. Kills then nearly on the spot. I'm killing them mid air! 😂 They get in everywhere. I have small spray bottles in the house ready for them. My 85 yo mom fell chasing one to kill it! Now we use the spray bottles inside too. They got to GO! Also if I get to them before say 10-11a that seems to help. Good luck all and thank you for the video!
I used Dawn dishwashing soap, lemon , and water . I haven't had a problem for a year or two and not a problem is not too many but they are back in force this fall
I'll try ajax citrus it eliminates a step of adding lemon, both are natures way of eliminating pests...
Get it done!
Dawn dish soap works well in the pump sprayer too….
Excellent idea, tyvm
Thank you
Hey y'all I'm trying to understand how they're getting into my house. Really I was looking for a video from an exterminator detailing WHERE they put caulk to prevent them from getting inside. I understand the value of knocking down their numbers outside, but if I had a perfectly sealed home, I wouldn't mind them having a rave on the side of my house. Any tips on where to apply sealant?
I am going to the store today, going to spray the house with the same solution, plus adding a bit of rubbing alcohol, and eucalyptus oil to the solution and I will let you know in about a in april whether or not it worked out.
There are none on either of my neighbors houses, and thousands on mine. I believe it was my error in using a pesticide with cedar oil. So if your using a bug barrier on your house make sure it doesn't contain cedar oil.
Interesting. Is your house brick and your neighbors not?
We just moved into a house late last summer and there are TONS! I'm determined to keep them at bay this year lmao
You can do it!
I live in the Canadian prairies (province of Saskatchewan, which is north of Montana and North Dakota) and I’m pretty sure we don’t have Ajax up here. I’m assuming that it’s an all purpose cleaner and wondering if you could tell me what’s in it. I’m thinking that there’s probably something similar available with a citrus scent, as there are a few cleaners like that. I know that Ajax was around when I was growing up in Toronto.
I get Boxelder bugs bad around my townhouse. All my windows face west except for one that faces south. They swarm my home in the fall. I’ve sprayed them with soapy water and it doesn’t seem to do much good. I’ve also used diatomaceous earth with limited success. Last fall, I dealt with over 60 of them coming into my home and I’ve encountered several coming back in this spring due to the inconsistent weather. Hopefully, it will stay warm now. I just want to keep them out for good this year. I can’t stand the sight of bugs in my home and these things drive me crazy!
Thank you for the idea!!
I've been using Dawn dishsoap and then it got sooo bad that I had to buy ortho home defense and I even paid Terminex 650.00 for treating the perimeter for a teat to keep the population down, but there's still too many!
Their soooo annoying to where you can't enjoy your outdoor space.
And Ajax is somewhat cheaper than dawn? I think? Lol
I have about 30 box elder trees behind my property line so I totally understand how your house looks black and red, I have siding with full southern exposure and there's alot of times that I cant even open my sliding glass door..their such a nuisance!!!
Good gosh, I can only imagine with 30 trees! I had 3-4 trees in that yard haha
Did u try the ajax ..did it help?
Thank you for posting this video. If I apply Ajax onto my house sidings, will it cause discolouration to my sidings?
I personally did not have any issues with any sort of discoloration. If that is a big concern for you, it's a great idea to do a few test runs in inconspicuous areas.
I have been fighting them for years. It’s frustrating. I use the same method in this video and it kills them fast but it’s frustrating to see them come right back the next year. I think that the next move is to cut down the tree they like. I guess if they have no food source they will move on. I also notice they tend to like to sunbathe on light paint colors. I think this year I am going to go and caulk up spots in my porch they seem to pour out if. I’m afraid though it’s all in vain until the tree is removed. Great video. Cheers!
Yeah unfortunately it'll always be a constant battle of maintaining. Chances are your tree isn't the only tree in the neighborhood that they like to live in...
I actually find they congregate on dark surfaces, like my garage door that gets the hot sun for a lot of the day.
They are attracted to the color white... also, they don't die in cold months they hibernate. I hate these bugs!
I have also wanted to cut down the trees they like. They are so prevalent because birds or other insects refuse to eat these stinky, foul tasting bugs! So they have no predators to knock down their population! They lay alot of eggs and mate like crazy! I only have one maple type tree near our river property but their infestation has gotten soooo out of control, I hate camping at our river property now! These bugs are the worst! No fear of us at all! And they can bite! Nasty bugs!
We didn't notice the infestation until we cut down our boxelder tree
Thank you!
You're welcome! Keep spraying them every time a new hatch comes out and soon enough they'll be few and far between.
I just started seeing them around our house gonna try this tomorrow fingers crossed
This method works very well. It is safe for animals as well. It also works for hornets and flying/other bugs. It works by suffocation. It clogs the breathing bits in the abdomen of insects. Not all but most. Great way to kill Hornets or yellow jackets. Spraying Pyrethrin Spray which is an insecticide and will kill all stages of insect. Caution must be taken with this around pets and water/ponds/lakes and so on. This kills eggs. You will have to do these methods a few times to end the problem but if they are up to a few miles away it will reoccur. I usually spray 4 to five times a season. Spring to fall.
Just be consistent and you will find it makes life a lot better
Hey. Thank you for the video. Do you know if this works on Elm Seed Beetles?
I don't know.
Tempo works great too.
Thanks for the input
Ajax, vinegar and rubbing alcohol. Works great
Thk you.... never had them then I moved been fighting them for 2 yrs they like warn place's in the sun
Thanks for posting your info. This is interesting... I had to remove a large pine tree and that was when these buggers appeared. Could it be due to more sun exposure? Acidity of pine? We have a bunch of maples, and honestly never really noticed them til the huge pine tree was gone. I get a LOT of sun now and thats where they hangout. Going to experiment first with more natural blend to avoid poisoning birds etc. Adding citrus to #1 on my concoction list / what read might work: hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, diatomacious earth, dish soap, borax (these are supposed to dehydrate). Repellents vinegar, tea tree oil, neem oil (read spray on leaves)🤞🖖also going to try trapping them in petroleum covered surface or fly tape. Found a Japanese beetle trap at HD... wonder what would attract them to a sticky trap?
Good luck!
I’m in the Niagara Falls area in Ontario Canada and I have then everywhere! Have you ever tried the formulas with baking soda or just water and dish soap ?
I stopped at the dish soap since it worked well for my needs.
Hi Cullum Stirling :) thank you for great energy video, like for us, it's war time, lol. End up spending so much time on these bugs grrr. Right at this moment my wife is spaying with Baking Soda & Dawn soap. To me, it only seems to repel them, not killing them, away to either go and attack other plants or wait and come back in the cedar trees. My question to you and/or anyone out there is: Can we spay Ajax directly on the cedar trees or other plants? Under cedar tree branches we have hatchlings, eggs infestation. We just finished planting 300 cedar tree... Need to know this to abliterate these little monsters.... kindly reply please :)
Cheers, Maurice:)
I directly sprayed all of my trees and plants and none of them died. I tried it in small doses at first just to trial
Very useful information - have you noticed if the infestation has continually decreased over time?
They have gone to almost ZERO!
@@cullumstirling great news !!!!!
Wasp spray in the blue can or brake Kleen works. Likely not great for plants, but bugs die on the spot.
Man thank you for posting this!! How are your plants?? Are they effected? I’ve got a lot of them.
I haven't noticed any problems with my plants. Like you saw in the video, I do only have "hardy" sort of plants. Maybe trial on on of yours and see how they do?
Cullum Stirling Will do!! Thank you 🙏🏾!
these bugs started in my meadow in NJ at the end of the summer last year. they are back as of the first week of March. they crawl out of the pavers in the driveway. i am infested outside already in April. i will try the ajax but am concerned re using it in the meadow. does anyone know if this formula will hurt the meadow grasses and flower? they are just starting to pop up through the earth. any help to kill the boxelder bugs yet save the meadow plants and flowers is appreciated
Gots here in Maine? I’ve never seen em? Thanks for the post!
I'm not sure.
you need to get the container that attaches to the water hose for faster delivery
Thank you!!!!!
We have a version of the same thing in ARizona. They stink when you smush em.
Someone said simple green worked well. I think I have that tree as well wonder about spraying it?
I never tried Simple Green. I sprayed AJAX on my plants and trees and didn't notice any negative effects.
I live in central California. In my yard, we just had our TALL 15+ year old pomegranate tree and Bubblegum 'Toka' Plum Tree removed. Although we enjoyed the fruits that we got with them, they trees itself became too large and a nuisance for our neighbors and my family. But ever since we had them removed, these elder box came out of nowhere and has infested my whole front, side, and back yard! I honestly don’t know if these trees were what attracted their attention in the first place because this was never a problem before the take down. Unfortunately, I have a little get-together outside in a week, so I’m prepared to go to my local Home Depot and get the soap and sprayer, and pray to god that this works. My plan is to start today, and keep spraying every other day (if not every) and kill these suckers before my week is up. So, thanks for the video and wish me luck. Lol.
Did it work out?
I bought a citrus concentrate and it works great, maybe up front more expensive than Ajax but it yields a lot more since it’s only 1 table spoon per gallon of water. Works great, but the bugs keep crawling out of leaves in the ground. I have no rock garden but they do hide in shady spots where the sun hits the house
What did you use, please?
@@Tinyteacher1111 Calyptus Orange Oil Concentrate
@@Kev1m Thank you❣️
THANKS GREAT VIDEO, BUT I WOULD TRY CITRIC HAND SOAP BRAND REFILLS ITS LIKE A REAL THICK JEL YOU CAN FIND IT ANYWHERE WORKS GREAT AND A LOT CHEAPER
I use Dawn soap about 3 ounces to 2 gallons. Kills almost immediately but i have to spray daily.
Consistency over time and it will eventually not be daily. However, like any form of pest control, it's ongoing.
I have the same problem just bought the house they are all over the yard, so I bought some crap from Lowes didn't work plus you have to squeeze it 10000 times. So, I took your advice bought the pump the Ajax and I don't think I put enough in, but I could see it working here's my thing the guy that owned the house left me with all those rocks also why mess with a pump I'm going to mix the stuff use a huge bucket or vat and douse it like a tidal wave, so it saturates down into the rocks and mulch and whatever else is under the rocks then use the pump for windows, cracks etc. I think it would save you time.
Thanks for the feedback
Interesting… I have these every year and just noticed them today. I’ve used something similar in the past and it did work. It’s not close to my house, on my back fence, I live close to a stream which connects to a major river in my area so they could come from anywhere
They multiply worse than rats. They lay their eggs on leaves which helps them spread fairly far, in turn leading to the downfall of the never ending battle.
@@cullumstirling Somehow this is beneficial to the circle of life I’m sure
@@SCraig-Handsome Everything has a purpose and I'm the last one that wants to break that balance, but these things are next level. My house would become a wall of black, not to mention they would get into everything.
Your region probably has a lot of Box elder trees, they typically grow near rivers in fact.
@@lrn_news9171 Yeah lots of them, my city was built around a river that extends 200 miles or so and I have a stream right behind my property so these bugs are quite common
I use an insecticide with permethrin. It lasts a long time indoors but not as long outdoors
Thanks for the input.
@@cullumstirling I'd rather stick with natural remedies but these things can really get outta hand quick
Cullum,
Soapy water such as you showed works great for immediate knock down but for a lasting solution I've had fantastic luck using TEMPO by Bayer. It will last quite a while. And if you ever fight Grasshoppers TEMPO and a little Malathion will knock them down large or small.
We've had a new bug move in called the Elm Seed Bug. They look like a smaller cousin to the Box Elder Bug and they STINK when you smash them.
Thank you for your video!
Thanks for sharing that with all of us! I'll look into it. I have knocked my population down to practically zero, thankfully.
So as of right now I have seen 2 this season. The soapy and consistent spray solved it for me!
Try adding Basil to the mixture or treat after killing most of em. Watched other videos that tested different essential oils and the bugs wont go near Basil.
Do the live ones that show up after you sprayed avoid the area?
I didn't find it much of a deterrent, more so a way of killing the existing bugs.
I just use Dawn dish detergent mixed with water and it works fine.
Thanks for your video! I am joining the war!
They are all over the rear yard of my daughters house. Thanks again, very helpful!
Welcome to the war soldier! Keep us updated as the battles go on :)

how do you get rid of them from inside the home during winter months.
Is there a scent they hate that i can put down
Insect bombs in your crawlspace and basement
Bifin I/T. Will work too.
Dawn Dish Soap warm water in sprayer. 1/2 cup of Dawn to 2 Gallons of water.
I didn’t know these bugs existed until about 5 years ago. Then BAM I suddenly had them everywhere in my yard. No clue where they came from unless the eggs were in some compost I got from the city.
hmm, I'm wondering if there's a new box elder tree in your area.
@@cullumstirling I noticed a ton of them near a wooden planter box I had made out of used pallets a couple of years prior & filled using free compost from the city. So I figure some eggs were relocated to here in one of those. I still see some but not nearly as many anymore so hopefully they’re moving on to another location.
safe for dogs or cats
I use apple vinegar and work good to
Interesting. If you use something with citrus in it, it's supposed to deter them from the start. The hard part is finding something that won't wash away with every rain.
I notice you have a crawl space under your home . Do they congregate underneath the house too?
When they aren't out in the sun, the congregate in the crawlspace vents and around any sort of trip (i.e. around windows and the fascia
One answer, Bifenthrin. It’s pricey but it will kill and REPEL any bug for 90 days. If you live in an area where sun hits hard you might have to spray every 60 days maybe but it’s so effective..
Can you tell me how to get rid of the Golden Rain Bugs???
Sorry, I don't know how to.
Any suggestions for inside? I just moved into a home and these bugs are everywhere outside. My kid left her window open all day and now we have these pests inside!
For inside, I vacuumed them up and then put then emptied them into a bucket of water with AJAX. I didn't have a huge problem inside though.
What do I spray on the neighbour who won't cut down the tree that is the source of my infestation?
haha, great question. Does he not have the same problem?
Use 2 Tablespoons of Dawn x4 strength per gallon but I use per quart and spray them. This washes off their waxing coating and they will die and it safe around Children and pets. Plus cut down those Box Maple trees. These bugs eat the Tree's seed that are in the tree pods and lay their eggs on the leaves of the Tree.
Kathy Fragassi we used the Dawn did nothing. Did it work for you?
Hey also why don't you get a couple of those spray containers every September just wash your house down all the brick all the windows your porch roofing area just wash your house make it nice and clean on the outside and hopefully they'll stay away from the house? And your house will be nice and clean 👍
I have the same problem. However some of my immediate neighbors struggle with the same problem while others don’t at all. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for why they are attracted to our house vs others.
They like bright / light colors and "rock gardens." Are either of those the difference between you and your neighbors home?
I don't think it matters much what kind of soap you use. Any liquid soap would probably work. And you don't need a high concentration. I use about 3/4 teaspoon of Dawn dish soap in a 1.5 litre jug (1/3 gallon), so that's about 2 teaspoons of soap per gallon. Use as little soap as works so you don't end up coating your house and yard in soap unnecessarily.
As a test, spray some bugs and watch them - at first it doesn't seem to bother them, but after about 10-15 seconds you'll see them staggering and struggling, then they lose control of their front legs and go face first on the ground and .... they're dead. I believe the soap and water works by suffocating them. Insects breath through holes in their abdomen and they have a waxy hydrophobic (water repelling) coating so water beads up and rolls off them. A wee bit of soap breaks down the surface tension of the water and defeats the hydrophobic coating and the beading so the water covers their breathing holes. Some sources say there are contributing chemical ingredients in the soap too.
It's not efficient to go around spraying individual bugs here and there. Maple bugs are very co-operative in their own mass murder because they like to congregate (mass) in warm sunny places. Locate where and when they are massing and go after the masses. You can kill tens of thousands of bugs in a few minutes, and then come back the next day and do it again. You'll notice the numbers in the masses start to decrease as you decimate the population over a few days.
I'd agree. I think it's the soap that suffocates them. I like the citrus since they are supposed to avoid the smell, but can't confirm it helps.
We used a shop vac with water and Fawn soap. It worked great. I know we will be doing this every year for a while. I tried spraying soap onto them and it was a mess.
Are you saying you put the water and soap in the shop vac?
Wait.. a maple tree is the same as. Box elder tree ??? I thought it was a different kind d of tree
fwiw, any dish soap works. I use hot water and a little dish soap in a sprayer bottle. They die within 30 seconds of being sprayed.
I have 2 big maple trees and I hate these bugs. They don't get inside my house a lot but are all over outside and they will ride in on you once in a while. They practically attack you outside when it is warm. I've been spraying them but more are back the next day.
Keep up the spraying. They breed extremely quickly so it might even be the newborn coming out.
@@cullumstirling I did and by the end there weren't very many, I went through the soap but it's not too expensive. It was a hot and dry year and they just kept breeding the little red ones. Cut my trees back which helped. For a while as soon as I got out of the car they were swarming. It gave me so much satisfaction to spray when there was a big cluster huddled together. Thanks.
@@SEVEN-gy3ub Awesome
I haven’t read all the comments, but have you tried diatomaceous earth?
I have not.
Anyone know if the concentrate mixture affects the house paint? I've been battling with these guys for 3 years. This year, the population was much worse.
My detached garage is painted cinder block and I haven't noticed any issues with it appearing to harm the paint.
@@cullumstirling I'm thinking of starting with a Dawn mixture to err on the safe side because I have a tendency to destroy plants and walls when I go aggressive on insects 😂
@@sudukohustler haha ok
@@cullumstirling Good news, Dawn dish soap worked. I got rid of at least 80% of the bugs last week on a hot day. I've had some heavy rains in my area so hoping for another sunny day to spray the survivors that were hiding. I used the same soap water mixture to get the ones that snuck inside the house and it killed them.
I cut down the trees last year not seen any since .
Trypanosoma cruzi is the parasite in the Boxelder bug.
I've killed like 500 of them and they keep coming back im in Eastern Canada we have some boxelder trees but not much
It's a never ending battle. I found you have to stay consistent to keep them manageable.
After several weeks of battling, I had very few so it made it easy to manage.
If I spray this solution on my plants will my plants die and never return???
I never had that issue, but I would suggest either avoiding your plants or trialing first.
Yes, it works but as pointed out it’s only a contact solution and has not residual effectiveness. I did this last session, and it was a continuous battle to keep the population down to about 30% of the original swarm. When they came out in force this year, I went full pesticide with Spectracide's Triazicide on a hose sprayer. One application ($10) all gone for over a month now and no sign of them returning. Really hated going the chemical death route but just couldn't take it anymore.
Been using this way for the last six years and they still come back just as many as the first day I started. HATE THEM!
Really? I have knocked mine down to only a handful. I wonder if you have a much larger population around the neighborhood that is working against you. Are you spraying them almost daily? If you don't kill them before they mate and lay eggs, then yes they will come right back.
@@cullumstirling they have a nest somewhere, be it inside your home, somewhere in the garage, or even in the tree.
I would watch where they congregate during the peak sunlight hours. They won't be nesting too far from that. Also look for the (telltale) eggs stuck to many horizontal and vertical surfaces of your home and garage. The eggs look like little red zits randomly attached to your home. The eggs are resilient to the environment, and it's possible the bugs have built a antibody to the dawn.
Do you ever spray the trees?
I sprayed as much of the tree and surrounding bushes as I could. Now... the tree in my yard was massive, so I wouldn't exactly say that I was able to successfully spray it.
This method works very well. It is safe for animals as well. It also works for hornets and flying/other bugs. It works by suffocation. It clogs the breathing bits in the abdomen of insects. I hate them .... but how to completely get rid of them and prevent them coming back?
Unfortunately I don't believe there is a way to completely prevent them from coming back other than 100% removing all of their desired habitat from your neighborhood / area.
Dawn ultra works amazing. Killed at least 1 or two million today. Cuts the wax that protects them and they basically dry out in 10 to 30 seconds. It's amazing fun
It can keep you entertained haha Just stay consistent. They seem to lay their eggs all over the place, so the next generation will be back in full force. Catch them before they lay eggs and soon you'll find only a few coming around.
How would you kill the eggs?
I don't know if there is a way to do that.
