Kudos for this, Trogly: "Guitar isn't all about money, sometimes it's just what you like, having the right guitar that inspires you to play is musical enjoyment that's worth more than money." Nicely played demo, clearly the Blasted Blue Strat inspires you. Great pickups!
I had after 30 years of playing stopped and sold all my gear. A few years later i walked in a music store saw a strat identical to this one hanging on a wall. two days later i bought a custom shop strat and replaced all my gear. I gotta pay respect to these sandblasted models and offer thanks for inspiring me to play again.
Loving that we got Fender two days in a row! There’s a million Strats out there, but when you get that one that clicks for you, definitely don’t ever sell it!
I think RUclips ate my comment. I have one of the Sweetwater Sandblasted Denim Blue Telecasters. It's a really stunning guitar to look at, has a really unique feel as well. I think mine is also three pieces, but the seams are way more uniform with the grain of the wood. I'm glad that it plays and sounds great on top of being a really special guitar to look at. I was shocked when mine arrived in the cheapest gig bag I've ever seen for a guitar that cost more than $1k.
I bought one of the Sweetwater American Performer Strats as well, 2019 model in a clear finish and it had a rosewood fretboard. They came equipped with the Yosemite pickups which I also liked, that headstock was really the only attribute I disliked. It played and sounded great, my buddy wanted it so I sold it to him and I sometimes regret it I have got say.
The finish is not doing it for me, but I do like that orange one you showed. Super nice guitar man. Edit: Just remembered the sand blasted ash charvel san dimas. kinda like your pink idea but reversed. They also have yellow.
Hey Austin, love that Strat!! Just FYI, it has a lot of characteristics of an American Ultra….. the logo, locking tuners, pop in tremelo with no tip, and the offset heel joint. And the fretwork is consistent with an Ultra!! Love it!!!
Hey, I think I know the guy who sold this one to you… glad you’re still enjoying it! I reached out to you and made a deal including this guitar for the Guitar Center “Rose Gold” SG you reviewed. This is definitely one of those guitars I’m so glad to have owned for a bit of time, it’s a fun one!

It has nothing to do with the neck radius; but rather they were designed to bring the poles closer on the strings with the least magnetic output to even out the sound. Those are Custom 50's so they are the same design as the late 1950's pick ups with the staggered poles. Which is why they sound so incredible. I've got a Vintage Series '62 Reissue Strat built in 1982 with staggered poles pieces so I'm biased because I believe my Strat is one of the best sounding guitars ever made.
This 2014 Mexican strat has the ceramic pups with staggered poles. I had planned on replacing but I like them. I did get a warmoth neck with 7.25 radius
I'm pretty sure they paint it first and then sandblast it. Fender colored guitars have a white base coat and then the top color, which would explain the pattern on this guitar after having sandblasted it.

Hey Austin! So Hermes music is actually a small local music store chain down in South Texas (Rio Grande Valley area). They have 3 locations, one of them is like right around the corner from me. It does not surprise me that that guitar sat around for so long. Not many people into more expensive gear down here.
It’s a Deluxe Stratocaster, which has been replaced by the Ultra. Professional Stratocasters replaced American Standards in 2016. So, the title of this video is not correct.
American deluxe. Deluxe alone implies Mexican made, while this is the USA equivalent. You had standard and American standard, just like you had deluxe and American deluxe. Personally, I think the deluxe line is the best value overall from Fender. They have premium, often USA parts, but are assembled in Mexico and therefore have a smaller price than one might originally assume based on specs alone.
I really like this guitar! There’s a couple thing’s letting it down for me, unfortunately. The body looks excellent, the neck looks great. You’ve got Custom Shop vintage style pickups, with the modern wiring harness, which is a bit confusing really, but still nice… Then there’s the cheap trem block, micro-tilt… What a to ruin a great guitar! Honestly Trogly, it may increase the weight a closer to 8lb… But upgrade that trem, or at least the block! Edit: I can see why it was a hard sell. It’s the equivalent of a $900 guitar from Fender with a $1500+ price tag. I reckon you could get this shipped in China for around $500, including the pickup upgrade. It’s nowhere near a $3000 guitar, let alone $5000.
Now brother dont u understand the art of a selman if dont want to sell something price it crazy high and no one will try to buy it from you.. Haven't you heard that old time saying if it ain't broke then dont fix it... me myself I dont like relic jobs but to each their own. Have a good one
Not sure why you're crappin' all over the micro-tilt, as it is easier to deal with than shims. And quite frankly- a lot of people just don't get Fender trem systems. I find this mesmerizing because I've had a lot of different ones- and I can't really say any of them are bad if you know how they are supposed to work and you know how to set them (which really isn't hard, btw). Just my opinion, but I'll take them over the screwing around with a Floyd Rose any day. Of course, you probably think the Jazzmaster trem is a piece of junk too.
@@mcdingus5081 Micro-tilt may be easier, but leaves you with less contact. I, and a lot of others I might add, would rather have that wood on wood contact for better sustain. As with the trem, I’m not shitting on the Strat tremolo design at all. I’m saying the one this guitar is supplied with, is the equivalent of what you’d get on a $200 Chinese built copy. It’s not really what you’d expect from a $1500 guitar.
@@thomasbrock1215 He may be happy with the current tremolo. That’s completely fine. I personally have always found a full size block to be an upgrade… As do most people I know. I know Trogly is more of a Gibson expert than Fender, so the trem block size may be something he just didn’t pick up on. I personally would upgrade it for a full size block. This is all just my opinion though. When it comes to pricing, I’m just stating that I believe it’s way overpriced from Fender originally, that’s why it was probably a hard sell. Not only that, the prices on Reverb are going up, and someone on Trogly’s video may be tempted to buy the guitar from him for $5000… I would advice them to hold off on that. And if they want a guitar built exactly how they want, go to a 3rd party builder for the body, get yourself a neck and some hardware… You’ve got yourself your dream guitar for a lot less than the $5000 asking price here. There’s General Vintage Tone, MJT, SC Relics, Fraser, Smoke Tree Guitarworks, NGS Guitars, Crimson Guitars… the list goes on! Hermes music... blast from the past. When I lived in San Antonio Hermes was my go to shop before they moved and bought out. Visited the original Hermes in McAllen, TX a few times.
Once I restored an antique wine press from Italy for my boss, and have sandblasted plenty of other wood.. they must have finished it over just enough to prevent splinters. very unique look. and a color you can live with for sure..

Around here there was a Hermies Music for many years. Wonder if it came from the one in Schenectady NY? They always had different stuff than the other places but weren’t the most pleasant to deal with when I shooed there.
"my stratocaster" says it all really. i really dig the multipiece body, combined with the sandblasting it adds to the whole driftwood assemblage aesthetic (see margaret mellis)
Sometimes you just find a guitar that meshes perfectly with you. I’ve got an old LTD 400 I picked up for 275$ years ago. I don’t even know why I bought it. It was online so I didn’t get a chance to try it first. And I’ve got Gibson custom shop guitars and pretty expensive ESP’s . So I didn’t really need to buy a 300$ guitar. Lol. But it just seemed like a good deal. It’s an eclipse model with Floyd Rose and came with hardcase. I guess I figured I could probably sell it for a profit or something. But it’s still with me. Sits right next to my guitars that costs 20x more. Its just a great playing guitar and sounds absolutely wicked. Any time I feel like I should just sell it, I pick it up and play it and that feeling goes away quick. So it’s a keeper. Sometimes you just can’t put a price on certain things.
I would have to say this is an American Deluxe strat with those specs, just with different pickups, cause those usually have noiseless ones. But all the other specs make it a deluxe.
I miss my 60th anniversary 1954 Strat replica. It had all the vintage appointments of a 54 Strat to the t. Best sounding, feeling, and looking Strat I’ve ever laid hands on. Kick myself every day for selling it.

I have an 04 50th standard I love it so much it’s kinda funny that most of my guitar rack is Mostly fenders now and I have yet to own my dream Gibson
Anything attached to the neck beauty is beautyfully unique axe
I’m not a fan of scalloping but I think if you scalloped the fretboard it would go well with that sandblasted rough body.
oh yeah, if i remember jim root jazzmaster has the same sandblasted finished in red, but i dont know if its available in the market right now. from what i know that is only made by fender for jim root only. he got,. i think two of those.
Around here there was a Hermies Music for many years. Wonder if it came from the one in Schenectady NY? They always had different stuff than the other places but weren’t the most pleasant to deal with when I shooed there.
13:35 wise words of Trogly wisdom !
Kinda reminds me of my Saint Joseph # 32 C harmonica, love it!!
When U take those strings off to dive in,,,are you re using them or putting on new strings??
Oh man here we go! Been waiting on this one!!!
Great guitar series and a good episode Trogly. Do you know about the Fender Rustic Ash series? I do own a Strat since 2013 and absolutely love it!
I like the topographical look and feel of this (but i like maps)
"my stratocaster" says it all really. i really dig the multipiece body, combined with the sandblasting it adds to the whole driftwood assemblage aesthetic (see margaret mellis)
Weird. They switched from the saddles this guitar has around 2007 back to the bent steel saddles, yet this has the old block saddles still.
For some reason...you play that strat better than you do Gibsons
Very cool guitar
Stunning piece! And I agree with you, sandblasted body look so cool. That's the main reason why I'll snatch a slick guitar sooner or later.
this guitar reminds me of Jackson Crackle Finish that looks awesome too, like the One that Robert Baker had
The technique is also known as cerusing, I believe it’s how a lot of novo guitars are finished also
Sometimes you just find a guitar that meshes perfectly with you.
Just found one for sale in my area for under $2K, should I buy it?
Now that is a sharp and unique body! Looks like unpolished granite.
I remember seeing a few of these in my local music store several years back. I thought they were super cool then and still cool today.
I wouldn't sell it either! Very cool ax.
Stunning Guitar Austin, that is a keeper, the neck looks superb, and the fret finish looks top class
How about a review of the Fender Custom Shop Gilmore Black Strat !!
I LOVE Les Paul’s, but there’s also something special about a good Strat as well. This was probably some of your best playing trogly.
That may be the most deepest sandblasted finish I've ever seen. 😃
I ended up getting a used guitar when you first announced make progress monday lol.
Still waiting for episode 2!!!
