When you walk in the front door. There is a Black box that kind of looks like a Pirates chest. Many years ago, it was full of Indian head dresses. An adjustable one size fits all cardboard band that had holes in it where you could stick the feathers. Anyway, they gave those to the kids when they came in. Some adults used to request and wear them too.
It's good to see the Steak Corral, still in business, frozen in time. Steak Corral was actually a chain of restaurants, similar to Sizzlers. We moved to Whittier from La Mirada in 1968 and there are so many restaurants in Whittier that don't exist anymore, most recently Chris and Pitts. I remember the old Bob's Big Boy on Whittier Blvd. The Holly House on Lambert. The Jolly Rodger at the Whittwood Mall. Cliftons at the Quad. I miss the old Whittier.
Hard to stop short of Chris n Pitts but I love coming here over the years. 67 years in Whittier, started going to Steak Corral when I was in my 20's. Best salad bar, best baked potato bar and tasty Steaks! Hard to beat the prices!!
My family and I moved to Whittier in 1959.We went to Steak Corral and ate their delicious food. Went to high school there. Sierra High. Back in 64-68. Steak Corral and Seafare Inn were the best eating places there.😊
Yes, i once told the waitress that if they ever go out of business (which i hope they NEVER do), I want to buy that portrait! Every time we go, if that table is available, that's where we sit😁😁😁.
Heck ya! Driven by this place a billion times and never stopped. For sure taking the family. Glad to see they haven't doubled the prices like every other restaurant. Thanks for reminding me of the place.
Been going there my entire life and has never disappointed. Quality food for a very reasonable price and fun decor. Great job capturing the essence of Steak Corral My Whittier!!
OMG I remember this place. I was a child at the time on family vacation; one of my Dad’s favorite places. Way back when the Olympics were in LA. Great memories. Everyone was so afraid LA would be overrun with tourists that they initially stayed away. Disneyland was so empty they let my sister and me ride twice sometimes without getting off the ride. If this wasn’t my first steak dinner it’s the first one I remember. Still have family near there. Have to see the place again. Thanks for the video!
I remember the Baked potatoe bar came to you on the table. Thanks for this memory. My eldest no 40 and my late Mother came to this place all the time it was our monthly routine
I use to go there in the early 80’s , I use to love it !!! But haven’t been there in years . Definitely a Whittier classic . By the way we met this last Saturday at liquor mart !!!!
So good..I didn't go to this one but the restaurant in West Covina..Our family went there in the 60's and 70's. It was always so good and us kids thought it was so cool to actually dispense our own drink. Back then it was rare you dispensed your own drink anywhere let alone get free refills.
I always love seeing these videos, and hope to move here one day! As a British person, it would be cool to see things, that Americans eat on Independence Day, and Thanksgiving..
I lived in Whittier, for 22 years and I don't think I ever went to Steak Corral!! Darn! Looks like it's good and until I can get down there again, I can't try it! Thanks for the video. I miss Whittier, I grew up there and loved it. (from Sandi)
Back in the 70s there was a Steak Corral on Lake Ave in Pasadena, where Roscoe's chicken is now located! The staff used to wear cowboy or Indian/native American outfits! This restaurant also sponsored Little League baseball teams at Victory park!
Great video! I went there many times as a little girl and young teen..and then a few times when my kids were little..omg it still looks the same and delicious! Definitely need to remember about it and get in there..ty MW 🤠
Kismet, random tidbit, but wow. I just listened to the 11/29/23 podcast episode about Steak Corral and you know what? There WAS and/or maybe still is one of those cowboys w/ the lasso in San Pedro (LOL). It had been there for a long time as well. I am thinking it may not be there any longer, but I remember seeing it after I moved to San Pedro from Whittier in the mid 1990s. I stayed in San Pedro for nearly 2 years. It was so weird to hear someone mention it because it brought back a lot of memories. I remember seeing it and thinking hey there's one like that in Whittier. At that age it was a big move and I was very homesick. In Whittier, we used to travel down Washington quite often because my grandparents live in Pico Rivera after having left LA. Also, 2005-2006-ish I worked at the Adult Ed in West Covina and drove right past the Steak Corral over there coming in from Fullerton. Thank you. It's really great to hear someone else mention it.
That is really cool. Thank you for sharing that story with us so awesome. And thank you for listening to my podcast and supporting. I really appreciate it.
I thought all the Steak Corral's had closed up. I remember there was another one off of Azusa Avenue, in Covina, back when I was a kid in the late 1970's. Great memories.
I went to Steak Corral not long ago. Everything was good except for their mashed potatoes. I guess it could have been an off day, or maybe they had been sitting there a while, but they were pretty bad. To be fair, I'll give them another try soon. Our family dined at various Steak Corral locations when I was growing up. Their former West Covina location is now a Norm's Restaurant and their old San Gabriel location is now a real estate office, if I remember correctly. I'm glad there's one location left because, while both my parents are now gone, the great memories of our family outings to Steak Corral remain.
I’ll give it a try. I’ve seen that restaurant all my life. My parents took me once. I think if they put some thing sugary on the menu, it would really help bring people in. In the 70’s and 80’s it was always buzzing with people. With long lines. Remember it was before Sizzler. $17.99 is a good price for steak. Other places are very expensive.
I'm pretty sure I remember the cowboy statue out front used to hold a rope in its hands. Anyway, came here last year for the first time and quite frankly wasn't impressed. I'll have to give it another try at some time.
The steak and rope were stolen. I’m sorry you weren’t impressed I’m not sure what you expected. But the Whittier nostalgia is a big part of the experience. Thx for watching
I went there several years ago I think one of my buddies took me there for my birthday. Not really a big steak eater drove by here millions of times never really appealed to me but yea it was good. All I remember was I was wild bill hiccup or whatever his last name was
When are you going to create a video about Cholo life in Whittier. It wouldn’t be Whittier without the Cholos. I’m talking about Whittier 13, SS Whittier, Quiet Village and such. The Cholos have been part of Whittier since the early 80’s. Lowrider life, Mongols and Graffiti are all part of Whittier. Lets keep it 💯, lets keep it authentic. Don’t want to shock the visitors when they visit and see a vato hitting the pooky pipe on a park bench in Gunn or how the new generation calls it Adventure park.
This place sucks!!! It’s a dive, the rib-eye I had was 65% fat, when we got there, no one guided us on the process of what to do and where to go, it was bad from the start! The food was warm/cold and bland, etc. I would not recommend this sorry restaurant nor would I never return .
Awesome video thank you so much my friend. I loved Steak corral as a kid and later. Mom always took me there at least once a week when i was growing up. Even after moving over by the whittwood still went to Corral often as possible.
Awesome, the Covina location was Boyhood Favorite Family Restaurant 😋
$17.95 for a rib-eye dinner❤ it's that much for one ribeye steak at Albertson's ! Thank you for showing us that great time capsule
You pay that much for mcdonalds meal steak corral far better
When you walk in the front door. There is a Black box that kind of looks like a Pirates chest. Many years ago, it was full of Indian head dresses. An adjustable one size fits all cardboard band that had holes in it where you could stick the feathers. Anyway, they gave those to the kids when they came in. Some adults used to request and wear them too.
Awesome! I can imagine how fun that was for kids. Thx for sharing
I used to love the Indian headbands they would give to the kids
Remember the high chairs were little horses with saddles?
It's good to see the Steak Corral, still in business, frozen in time. Steak Corral was actually a chain of restaurants, similar to Sizzlers.

Is Chris and Pits still open in Pico Rivera?
Could you imagine Chris and Pitts with a help yourself salad bar?

Steak Corral was my dad’s first job.
You sure are a man of word and wisdom
There was one in Altadena/Pasadena on Lake in the 60s-70s. I remember going when I was around 7 years old. It’s long gone.
Yes sir the steak corral never dissapoints
Hey Bob, When I lived over on Roseheadge dr... I never been inside this place. Remembered that Joshua Tree out front. thanks for sharing.
Frozen in time are the right words . This place will always be our family place
My mom worked there back in the 70s . Great food in town.
I used to go to the one near Hacienda Heights. It was always good.
drove by countless times never stopped, I might have to make a stop for lunch
I'm glad they are still around.I used to eat there alot when I was a kid and loved the cheese bread

Born in 1972 and I've lived in Whittier all my life. I've never heard of this place before going to have to check it out.
Been going there my entire life and has never disappointed. Quality food for a very reasonable price and fun decor. Great job capturing the essence of Steak Corral My Whittier!!

Used to go to Chris & Pitts every few months or so- didn't know it was closed. Guess I've found our new place.
Always drive by, but have never stopped in. Definitely going to change that this week!
I think you would dig it man
The food is so good there! Need to revisit soon!
Love Steak Corral! Grew up around the corner from here. Been coming here for years, and now my daughter works there! 😊

I use to go there in the early 80’s , I use to love it !!! But haven’t been there in years . Definitely a Whittier classic . By the way we met this last Saturday at liquor mart !!!!

Back in the 70s there was a Steak Corral on Lake Ave in Pasadena, where Roscoe's chicken is now located! The staff used to wear cowboy or Indian/native American outfits! This restaurant also sponsored Little League baseball teams at Victory park!
I went there in 1971! Loved the Indian headbands, don remember the food, but I’m going to check out the one in Whittier!
One of our family's favorite places to eat!
I have driven by this place, now I will stop and check it out.
Every time I watch your videos I get hungry.
Grew up with Steak Corral in Covina since the late 60s. Love the Corral Burgers, cheese toast and especially the croutons.😊
I remember back in the day they had stainless steel containers that held your butter, sour cream and chives already at the table.
Looks good 18 bucks great deal
Great video! I went there many times as a little girl and young teen..and then a few times when my kids were little..omg it still looks the same and delicious! Definitely need to remember about it and get in there..ty MW 🤠

I thought all the Steak Corral's had closed up. I remember there was another one off of Azusa Avenue, in Covina, back when I was a kid in the late 1970's. Great memories.
I remember steak cotral in arcadia
It’s funny and shocking to see my neighborhood on RUclips 😂 Thank you I was entertained and I liked your video.
Great place & awesome Steaks! There was one in West Covid but they Closed it and it’s now a Norm’s.
Amazing walk down memory lane.
It was today's dinner! If they ever want to see an up roar in Whittier... Try to shut down... Whittier won't... They corral all the Rites alright!
Thank you sir
wish I was in town to join you for lunch . its very affordable for a steak house and the bread is some of the best you'll ever have. Great idea Bob
I love their steak sandwich ❤ & baked potato & salad👍
I almost went with the steak sando
looks amazing
It was really good I was happy with it
Great flavors! Oddly enough, Jax steaks in Oakland had similar presentation-tray line, toast, giant vat of butter and the exact same flavors.
I went to Steak Corral not long ago. Everything was good except for their mashed potatoes. Are you aware that there is an abandoned resort up on the hills in Whittier CA that belongs to Alcapone???
No I never knew that.
It's an Og all-time favorite I love it 😋🤤
Although not my style of steak house, I will give credit to Whittier for keeping these places.👍🏼
I’ll give it a try. I’ve seen that restaurant all my life. My parents took me once. I think if they put some thing sugary on the menu, it would really help bring people in. It's was a place like that in.the Lakewood Mall
Always loved it there, but always wished that their salad bar was actually all you can eat
Best steaks in Whittier
I remember the one Azusa in Azusa
Prime rib?
I am shocked that they do not have the plastic red glasses.
