Great song and tribute to a very warm and talented man, Fred MacMurray. He should be given much more adoration and credit for his acting skills. He was a loving and caring soul that never had a bad word about any of his peers and always was available to his many fans.
Big Fred was said to throw nickels around like manhole covers. But, he was a Scot after all. He came from Rockford, Illinois and ended up one of those bi-media icons who had a career in movies then managed to catch the wave of movie stars who made t he jump to TV. Someone said Fred Mac was so low key he made Perry Como look like Barry Manilow. His iconic role, of course, is from the TV series My Three Sons and his naturalistic handling of Steve Douglas, widower and Aeronautical Engineer. He starred on one of the longest running series in TV history in MTS. Your tune lets us all know that Fred Mac was a down to earth, regular guy type success story. Yet, you leave enough space in the song to let us believe there was some mystery to him. Desi Arnaz was a big fan of his and recruited him to star in the second episode of his new concept 'Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour' in 1957 'Lucy Hunts Uranium'. Fred did a noble job keeping his wits while the gang heads to the desert in search of the mineral. Fred ends up with a box on his head in the 'greatest chase scene ever filmed for a TV series'. Arnaz said Fred pulled the 'pay me for my personal prop' gear, which was in his contract both there and in MTS. COL Parker had the same clause in Elvis' movie deals as well. Wonder which came first. Speaking of Elvis, one of his Memphis Mafia, the late Marty Lacker, pointed out that Presley was a big fan of Fred and of MTS. Enough background filler. Wanted to compliment you on this rather unexpected tribute to a guy who, I'm sure, you were close to and looked up to.
This is a great Tribute and lots of great photos. I remember my brother helped me set up the timer on the oven with a long chord into the living room to my small audiocassette recorder (before Betamax) so I could record Ernie Barry Livingston on Art Linkletter's House Party when Barry played the guitar. That show was on on week day afternoon TV and I had to go to school. I'm so happy that I could see Barry Livingston as Barry Livingston on Art Linkletter 50_years ago.
Almost brought me to tears. This really says a lot about Mr. MacMurray's "real life" character. Seems he was really a humble man. Thank you for sharing this, Mr. Livingston! You have talent!! (This goes for both Mr. Livingstons)!
Cool ballad Barry..I’m such a lover of My Three Sons…dvr it every weekday morning and watch episodes on RUclips…mostly the older ones. I had a huge crush on Fred MacMurray. Your summary in another interview of William Frawley and William Deverest was exactly the way I thought they’d be. I grew up watching it and still in my golden years watch it and love it. Love listening to you talk in the videos you’ve done. Blessings to you and your family. ❤
Wow, you really outdid yourself this time little Ernie. Barry, you have a Great Voice. You missed your callin. You should have been Writin and Singin all those Years. You have a Great Voice. If I still lived in California, I would come and be your Manager and see to it that you Started a new Career, IN MUSIC...Break-a-Leg Barry. I do believe you will be goin places with this Song. I loved it and so will anyone and everyone that hears it. Tell your Brother Chip that he is Stan the Man. Stan obviously has been hanging around a Music Studio and it shows caz you can see the Results of his Efforts. Mike also did a Bang up Job of Producing it. I know you have already Pitched the Demo and Good news will reach you soon. Don't Snooze, have some more Material ready to release FAST..(Maybe the Late Great Don Grady, also a Singer, remember Yellow Baloon)? Kudos to the Livingston Brothers in Real Life as well as their TV Show with Fred McMurray as their TV Dad
What a beautiful ballad you sang. He was truly a movie star and so humble. I bet he was wonderful to work with. He could play both a bad and good guy but I preferred him playing a good guy. He was on one of my favorite shows my three sons.
I just came across this site on my feed. I'm impressed with the song and yoyr voice. I was born in 63 and I remember one daylight savings I was put to bed before My 3 Sons came on. I was really upset. Funny what sticks in your head so many years later.
Wow, very nice, Barry Livingston, Stanley Livingston, Mike Schadel, and Marty Rifkin. Your music video brought a tear to my eye, which I was not expecting. Good job, be well, stay safe.
Wow. Sounded great. You have a good voice. When he grew older he looked the same. In fact all you guys look the same. I have a brother in law your age looks just like you. Cracks me up
What a great song! Have you released a CD of music? I have to say my favorite role of FM was in "The Caine Mutiny." He was awesome in "My Three Sons" playing such a different character! Great, great actor.

I'm not really a country lover, but I like this song...
