This is the Russian Song. I composed this song as a teenager. At the time I was struggling with emotions that I thought nobody has ever felt before, and I felt like I couldn't tell anybody about them. The piano has always been a place where I feel like I can speak up (through music), so this song was my quiet hope that things would get better. There are many tumultuous themes within the song, but the theme that emerges in the middle of the piece represents hope for a brighter day. Recording this as an adult was so freeing. It's been quite a few years, and I've learned that my struggles were not unique, and that I am responsible for speaking up and also creating that brighter day for myself.
