Those are literally the first quads I've ever ridden. Same colors and everything. The bayou was brand new. Think we had a forest green bayou too. That little 400 was awesome. The big bears were what I spent most of my time on.

That’s pretty cool that these were the first you ridden. That bayou 400 is a little tank.
My first was a Yamaha moto 4 200.

@rockspowersports My dad used to work for a land survey company out here in Nevada. They ran a fleet of probably 6 big bears and two of the bayous. The big bears were rough to manage at 6, haha. The moto4 200 was kinda a predecessor to the big bear, right?

These comparison videos are my favourite. Would be nice to see more of them. Even if they aren’t a fair match up lol.

Just stubbled upon your channel and have been watching all your videos the past couple days. You do a great job at explaining things and you are truly a great mechanic and treat your customers honestly not try to up sell them or anything. The reviews and comparison videos are great as well. Keep it up. I know for a lot of customer machines you use the name brand oils or what they request. I know you said you have been using Rotella 5w40 T6 in your personal machines. What do you use in the differentials and transmissions? I always used mobil 1 0w40 and mobil 1 gear oil and mobil 1 ATF in the front dif of my 570 rzr. Along with a kn oil filter and UNI oiled air filter. Keep up the videos they are awesome.

My dad bought a big bear brand new in 97/98 in green, it was used on the ranch for 15 years give or take. Now it's a trail machine and all the scars and scratches have stories from our childhood. Never needed anything other than a seal, batteries and bulbs. Used to drag a big rake around our arena with it. They are crazy tough machines.

My dad has a 97 big bear 350 that I have put a beating on and it still runs like a top. He took it in to a friends atv shop out of curiosity just to inspect the top end and they couldn’t believe how great of shape it’s still in. Just purchased a yamaha wolverine rmax 4 1000 xtr last weekend and love it! Hoping yamaha can keep that same reliability in this new rig.

I have a 92 big bear 350 I got a good deal on it. Transmission shaft was broke, I tore it apart and replaced with a used trans, put new piston in while I was in there and its been an awesome wheeler since. I enjoy riding it more than my warrior now

Great video content, enjoying all your tear downs and builds. But the Bayou 400 that I owned was a 1994 and had it for 8 years. It is a work horse at the cabin dragging logs out of the woods.
I wish I never gave it away, miss the power the little quad had.

I had Kawasaki klf 300 and the water cooled klf 400 as they were called in the uk. 400 was a brilliant hill farming bike. Low centre of gravity was great working on slopes. Only way it would wheelie was stood on the rack! Low bars were not comfy on a long ride but were great when jumping on and off catching sheep and opening gates, like it was designed to ride with one knee on the seat. Wish I hadn’t sold it when I got offered an arctic cat diesel.

I wonder if the Yamaha has a transmission problem that's producing all that metal, and not an engine problem. Might be linked to the one-way bearing?

I simply can't understand why the atv industry went the cvt route what was wrong with the semi auto gearbox . For me the best vehicles whether it's an atv or a 4x4 overlander the best machine is the one that gets you back home and steel cogs will stand more chance than a burnt up belt

  • @ss2link

That Yamaha will outlast that Kawasaki put a new set of tires on it you won't have an issue with it bottoming out or losing traction with it missing gears mine would do that too if I was running it real hard and pretending like it was a race machine😂
