Yes. Stravinsky might turn to Tchaikovsky, Scriabine for musical inspiration, but he owe Rimsky Korsakov, Glazunov the basic foundation of musical composition
Now I am intrigued by the music's story!! The score is wonderful in every way. One can imagine birds chirping, roosters blaring, and humorous events occurring so easily! Google here I come!
Serg. Rachmaninov scarcely, expressed his opinion about N. R- Korsakov when he was the director of St. Petersburg conservatory. Nevertheless, one of the few music texts he took in his luggages when he left Russia for ever, was the score of the "Golden Cockerel".
You won’t hear music like this in a movie soundtrack nowadays. Things are so low key in the movies nowadays, it would be considered too dramatic and more suited for the 40’s-60’s.
If you haven’t seen the NYCO production of Norman Treigle and Beverly Sills, I strongly recommend it. Yes, it’s in English instead of Russian but all the singers do an outstanding and the conductor brings out all the details of this magnificent score with love and care like a Respighi piece. The stage director did a great job bringing out the comedic elements of the plot too; the goofier the characters are, the more fun they are to play.
Some of us are old enough and were fortunate enough to have seen the NYCO production you recommend. I second your recommendation, though the production hardly needs a second. I've also been fortunate in having seen a production at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. Different productions, of course, but each fine in its own way.
I've heard that Diagilev staged a ballet on this music, and R.-K.'s widow sued him for distortion of the composer's idea . Like Christian Orthodoxes , Russian composers couldn't stand any modern interpretation of their works ( only strict following by the score ).
You can hear the influence on Stravinsky. He was very lucky to have Rimsky-Korsakov as teacher.

Practically an encyclopedia of orchestration. Thanks for uploading with the score.

Parts of it were used in Ken Russell's "Salome's Last Dance," 1988.
Maybe not in a live-action, but in a Japanese animated movie perhaps?
It was sampled for a villain in a japanese animated series and hes called all for one, u can just search all for one theme and u will find it
