Hello! I am a classical music enthusiast and an amateur composer who compiles music videos as a hobby. All of my videos, are made by a small number of friends, and are uploaded for educational and non-commercial purposes only. I do not own any of the materials used in this channel, and I do not gain any profit from it. If you are a copyright holder and object to my use of your intellectual property, please, before you file a take-down notice, email me at msoupelin@gmail.com and I will manually take it down.
I may from time to time reupload old videos. This happens once I correct spelling mistakes, audio errors, etc. By all means, if you find an error, tell me so I may rectify it.
Lastly, I am also open to doing score videos of living composers. I cannot guarantee that your piece will be uploaded, but constantly sending me updates or new works can lead to one eventually ending up on my channel.
PLEASE NOTE: I do NOT accept MIDI for original composition score video requests.

Bohuslav Martinů - Mazurka, H.284 (Koukl)
Mazurka, by Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů, is a piece written in 1941 as a “Homage to Paderewski” in honor of the Polish politician and composer and to commemorate his death. It was intended to comprise an album of 17 works, commissioned by the publisher Boosey & Hawkes, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Paderewski’s debut at Carnegie Hall. The celebration quickly turned into a funerary tribute, as Paderewski died at the age of 80 before the publication of the album.
Overall, the Mazurka is around 2 minutes long, and uses textures that, at times, remove it somewhat from the Polish dance’s character and intent. The piece’s overall tonal center revolves around the note of B-flat, while ...

František Kotzwara - The Battle of Prague, Op. 23
Просмотров 8783 месяца назад
“ACK!” The last breath from the lungs of Czech composer František Kotzwara (also spelled Kočvara) left his body, as he sat on the floorboards of an English apartment with a noose around his neck, one that he tied for himself. The other end of the rope was fastened to a doorknob, and standing above him was the screaming owner of the apartment. Earlier on that fateful day of September 2, 1791, Ko...
Tianhe Chen - Blood Debt (1939) (Zhang)
Просмотров 3243 месяца назад
“Blood Debt” for solo piano is a piece written by Chinese composer Tianhe Chen in 1939. Dolorous and mournful, the piece was composed while Chen was in a bunker, taking shelter from the Bombing of Chongqing during the Second Sino-Japanese War (which subsumed into the wider World War Two scene). The heavy civilian casualties angered him, and contributed to his overall patriotic and revanchist at...

Ryan Collis - Nephrolithiasis (2022)
Просмотров 3834 месяца назад
“AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!” is the sound one makes when attempting to pass a large kidney stone naturally. Incidentally, British composer Ryan Collis’s “Nephrolithiasis” for piano trio is named after the condition of having a kidney stone. The work is in one movement, and largely consists of freely atonal harmonies. Lasting approximately 6 to 7 minutes in duration, the performers often navigate moder...
Antonín Dvořák - 2 Furiants, Op. 42 (Kahánek)
Просмотров 6534 месяца назад
2 Furiants is a set of dance pieces by the famous Czech composer Antonín Dvořák. These Furiants, true to the manner of the general Slavic folk dance, contain hemiolas as a mainstay feature. They are relatively unknown compared to the composer’s other works. Both pieces contain common ideas and motifs, among which are the Alberti Bass variants, stiff rhythmic diminution, and, due to folk inspira...
Anton Rubinstein - Ondine, Op. 1 (Cousin)
Просмотров 4,6 тыс.6 месяцев назад
“Ondine”, subtitled “Etude”, is the first published piece by Russian composer Anton Rubinstein. It was composed in the year 1842, when he was only twelve years old. As the programmatic name implies, the Etude evokes the feeling of flowing water in which the titular female sprite dwells. Above the continuous deluge of arpeggi, a constant pattering of single-note droplets form the top voice and m...
Moritz Moszkowski - Humoresque in D Major, Op. 14 (Hobson)
Просмотров 8076 месяцев назад
Moritz Moszkowski’s Humoresque is a piano composition that was composed sometime during the latter half of the 19th century, relatively early on in his career. The work often makes use of heavy bassline pedal points on the tonic while keeping a boisterous beer-tavern melody, but nevertheless, still has its tip-toe mischievous moments. It also emits a very Germanic flavor due to the horn fifths ...

“After the New England Conservatory sent all students home due to COVID-19, I began work on this string quartet immediately after returning home. I finished it in five days - the fastest I Have ever finished a multi movement work (though it is only about six minutes minutes). I worked under a six minute time limit because I planned to submit it for a reading session which didn't allow for piece...
Edgard Varèse - Dance for Burgess (1949)

“Dance for Burgess” for chamber orchestra and percussion, is a fun little work by the composer Edgard Varèse as a part of a Broadway musical project by Burgess Meredith, a dancer and Varèse’s friend. The stagework never came to fruition. Though the orchestral piece was written in 1949, it was only published in 1998, thanks to the efforts of Wen-chung Chou, who helped to edit and revise the fina...
Gary Noland - The Melancholic Moneymonger, Op. 26
Просмотров 3247 месяцев назад
Gary Noland’s “The Melancholic Moneymonger” for piano is a bite-sized neobaroque composition that lasts less than one minute. The style of the piece uses mostly Baroque period language, until the final few measures of the piece, where dissonant chords break that illusion. Noland dedicated the miniature work to his pen-pal, Ladislav Kupkovič. Kupkovič, once a modernist composer who was a discipl...

Beautifull harmonies 😊
It seems important to know that the first piece actually wrote is a Tantum Ergo, for SATB choir and organ/harmonium
oasis de fantasía y aliento para el soñador…
How bold you are, Erwin Schulhoff
When I first listened to this, I thought Scriabin wrote it by smashing the keys with his palm. But I'm back here the fifth time, and oh god it's beautiful as f.
Fine sense of romantic grandeur in Hamelin's interpretation; he brings it to the edge of possibility. Nice description!
Wow these are great. I believe I hear some influence on Janacek's solo piano works at times. I want to learn No.4 @8:44
Ocito je Cajkovski bio dobar trgovac , kad je toliko reklama ubacivao u svoje kompozicije
No. 5 is 😍😍
The performer is extremely creative about the tempo, I don't see the slightest indication in the score that you need to play it "a la chopin" and almost come to a standstill in bar 7.
13:46 is something very special. A gift from above
Such a fantastically underrated symphony, fresh, transparent, and with a unique harmonic sensibility. God I wish the guy had laid off the chemistry and written a few more of these.
What a lovely gem the algorithm has given us today.
What a nice little piece! I love the unexpected section at 1:05
Duly unforgettable. This is the sonic equivalent of watching icebergs melt at night.
Beautiful work, very sparkling, the fugue(s) sound(s) very 'authentic baroque'. Outstanding performance, thanks for sharing.
Загадочная старославянская музыка в представлении римского
I guess one can say this song is well read.
Thank you.

Wonderful.
Opening reminds me of the opening moments of Rachmoninoff's 1st Piano Concerto. Ornsteins's compositions get tiresome to listen to. He didn't know how to build an architectually, emotionally satisfying musical experience. It's all bang, bang, bang. All too forced. Oh look, I'm so atonal sounding. Zzzzz.
Can’t decide if this is middle or late Scriabin
Mozart did this much better. He called it A Musical Joke.
It was an early work and published postumously. Remember his 6th symphony was op.74. The last work he completed and conducted 9 days before his untimely death.
😬
The writing feels almost intentionally brutalist, consciously avoiding any kind of real melodicism, which made for a unique listening experience. The sound of scordatura makes it sound even more bizarre, that in tandem with the the somewhat empty writing that makes this an interpretative challenge for the string player who wishes to be musically expressive… Yes he’s obviously no Haydn, but it’s great that the American polymath founding father took an interest in music and that we have documents like this that survive. (Although I’ve read that this particular composition’s attribution is dubious.) If he did write it, I imagine it was something he just did for fun to play with friends. Maybe it’s not fair to compare this one-off novelty piece to the legacies of some of the greatest composers in western civilization. Nieztche also tried composing music….
Could you please do one for the original version for piano, violin, cello, and drum?
Who orchestrated it?
How do you do your engraving?
Might be interesting to take material from this piece and try to depict the horrors of war with it.
What kind of piano could this be? It sounds so grand, might be Steinway I’m not too sure, but it sounds so powerful.

What's it like when a kid creates a masterpiece that still arouses admiration after 200 years?
Hi i'm tryng to write my thesis about this piece, can you tell me were you took the things you have wrote in the bio? Ps hope there aren't too many english mistakes in this comment
They get better (or maybe you just get into them?). LOVE no. 8; a riot! (cf. Waltz by Arthur Lourié) And no. 9; sumptuous! Truly awesome pianism! Thanks for posting.
This is actually my transcription from around 20 years ago! It got copied into a book by an Australian guy, Jonathan Gemmil, a while back, crazy how it shows up in strange places after all these years. He put several of my transcriptions into his book (mistakes and all, haha). Nice job playing by Victor
Wow! Thank you for this transcription!
I'm glad that a score video exists for this piece, but wow its bad.
