I'm a 3 handicap and I have only recently started listening to Mr. Trevino's tips...It never ceases to amaze me how good he is translating a tough golf shot into a very easy to understand tip...he really may be the best in the business for conveying golfing advice.
Golf needs more "Lee Trevinos". Modern golf lack the personalities. They are taught to show no emotion whether they make a good or bad shot. Johnny Miller was another great personality. Boy did he wear his emotions on his sleeve. The emotions we see during the Ryder cup would do golf very well on the PGAT. With that said, love Lee's instructions. A top 5 fave golfer. I am late to the game but thanks for posting!
I wish this great man would play some more on the seniors tour so we could at least get to see him at work a little more. A wonderful player of course and greater human being.
That tip with gripping with your last 3 fingers helped me tremendously chipping with my 60 degree and also hitting my irons. What a great tip. Thank you
I'm a 4 handicap and Mr. Trevino's tips over the years were some that resonated with me the most; he was a genius on the links and also a master at explaining the art and science of the golf swing. Still the best golf tip I ever heard was when he was being interviewed after a round and was asked to give the mid/high handicapper his best tips. Lee obliged and gave a couple good basic tips and then ended the interview with "and it also doesn't hurt to hit 200 or 300 balls a day at the range"...that one stuck with me, you need lots of reps to learn how to create and understand your own golf swing.
I've been going to golf tournaments since the 1970s. I would arrange my vacation days around them. Usually I pick a player and follow their entire round. I've always had favorites. This guy is certainly among my top couple. A great player and very entertaining guy to watch. A tremendous ball striker. I saw an interview with Jack and they asked him about great ball strikers and he mentioned two names. Hogan and Trevino.
I am just enjoying watching Mr. Trevino, one of the all-time great ball strikers, hit the ball. What a beautiful swing. The simple tips too are helpful reminders. Thanks for posting these videos on RUclips.
dont forget this is when they used persimmon woods and balata balls, it was a totally different game to what is played today, and there was alot more skill involved back then!!!
to all modern pros: yes,you are allowed to have a personality. just watch this man's videos on youtube and see for yourself. would somebody please break the factory molds on the modern tour pro? booooring.
Agreed. It's like watching robots. No style what so ever with the exception of a few. Then you got the dumbass commentators treating those few like they have all these swing faults because they don't swing like they have a stick up their ass.
Watch how much his club bows as it compresses the ball into the Turf. Really similar to a hockey stick. That stored energy gives all the power when the club (or stick) snaps back. Great lesson.
Hitting down with a driver isn't advisable. Not dissing Lee, a great player, but there always had to be an explanation as to why greats of the game have offered advice and tips that utterly contradicted each other. With technology, now we know why.
A 6 Wood??? And persimmon. Wow. Talk about a few years ago. The last time I saw a 6 wood was with my car mechanic. All he had was woods. He could not hit an iron. He had an 11 wood. Oh, he did have a wedge for sand. He was even lousy with that.
Lee is the bomb, but he also knew how use chatter to get under the skin of the comp. He owns the rare claim of beating the worlds best at their best, similar to THE GREAT Gene Sarazen.
Smart guy, but please stop saying your compressing it into the ground. It's impossible to do that ( unless you top it ) and you would never want to do that
I love the "merry mex" but he is no teacher LoL. He keeps saying things like "hitting area" and "Hit" down on it yet there is NO HIT in his swing. In his book as in this video he talks about holding on with the last 3 fingers of the left hand. In his book he says pull hard with those 3 fingers and keep the right hand out of it, No HITTING folks!! Pull with the last 3 fingers hard if you want to SWING like Trevino:)
Any Professional at the highest level, has spent almost all their life working on their own swing...and they have an incredible amount of God given talent. A few people can benefit from Lee's wisdom, but I'm pretty sure we're way down the scale of abilities to even understand just what he means...and then, add to that--he often does something that "feels" a certain way...and does another. You cannot teach with the kind of talent Lee has, and without looking at why people actually can't swing the club in the correct manner FOR THEIR ABILITIES....Lee does not, never has, had THAT talent. The talent of looking at someone else's swing and then determining what course of action to go from there...physical limitations, age, agility etc....there are reasons why we have teaching pros...and some folks have the talent to learn from some youtubers...people think everyone will benefit from good instruction on a video...not true IMO.
What a wonderful personality and a great player that thankfully is still with us today.
This is so much more enjoyable than the convoluted complex lunacy of modern teaching.

a genius born of hard work, nobody ever made the game look so easy as him
I wish this great man would play some more on the seniors tour so we could at least get to see him at work a little more. A wonderful player of course and greater human being.
Denny Law , saw him in person on the senior tour in 1995. Lee is pretty old to be competing these days
I started because of Lee early 80's these tips are so very good today 12-14-20. I can't wait to watch the rest of this video. (but I will)
That tip with gripping with your last 3 fingers helped me tremendously chipping with my 60 degree and also hitting my irons. What a great tip. Thank you
Love my man Lee Treviño! Such a great Champion and an even better human being, and funny too! 👍🏼⛳️🏌🏽♂️

Lee is the best!
Lee is very entertaining and knows his stuff. Fun to watch.
I love the sound of his voice too. Imagine playing a pro am with Lee and Andy Griffith and standing between them as they're talking.
Thanks Lee! A true golf legend
Lee Travino's vids always give me confidence. He's so full of hopeful advice.
Lee Trevino's are good too.
Such a great dude
Lee is a legend
4 solid tips in just over 5 minutes, now that's straight to the point efficient.
Unbelievable. Looks like I will be hitting up eBay for a persimmon 6-7 wood

His golf tips are great: clear and easy to understand, practical
Great video! Several tips I've never heard before. Awesome!
Some ppl are just born with humor! 😂😂😂 great 🏌🏽 too
dont forget this is when they used persimmon woods and balata balls, it was a totally different game to what is played today, and there was alot more skill involved back then!!!
no
My favourite golfer ever.
Wouldn't it have been great to have Lee as your golf coach in high school? I would have loved it and been so much better.
Lee Trevino is awesome.
Great tips, that's why you are the Super Mex👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
He's a Legend!!

Lee was a lot of fun to watch.
The ball position tip with the woods changed the game for me.
Genius !!!!
Lee Trevino Rules!
Watch how much his club bows as it compresses the ball into the Turf. Really similar to a hockey stick. That stored energy gives all the power when the club (or stick) snaps back.
Great lesson.
My god I feel like I just shaved off 8 strokes off my game the man is a genius
Do it Lee!!
"i justt fell off my couch watching that shot"
watching the deutsch bank Johnny sounds like hes getting anxious the euros are playing great with the Ryder cup around the corner
helped my fairway wood play move it back see it go works really well
coolest hats in history...
His real secret is Sansabelt Slacks, Power with Comfort™.
Where can I buy a 6 wood?
Is it the angle of the camera or is Lee playing the ball off his right heel with that fairway wood shot?
he had that fairway wood literally on his back foot
👍🏌️🤪🇺🇲
I feel like they are looping the same clip of the ball rolling up next to the flag after every shot lmaooo
I gotta try that firm 3 finger tip
3:10. "The 6 wood". Probably had a loft very close to today's high loft 7 wood or strong lofted 9 woods.
@uscjd2004 yeah, but when you have consistency problems, you can always put it further back and hit further down on it :)
Lately, I've been having a lot of trouble getting it up.
That’s what she said
Most of Lee's advice revolves around 'hitting down on the ball', just sayin'...
+Peter D Wellsince he has "gone down" with six majors so there must be something in what`s he saying.. :D
Peter D and you could use every bit of that advice just saying
Hitting down with a driver isn't advisable. Not dissing Lee, a great player, but there always had to be an explanation as to why greats of the game have offered advice and tips that utterly contradicted each other. With technology, now we know why.
Peter D actually thats true all the old timers had a different way of doing it
Pros are still hitting down on hit and compressing the ball, nothing has changed as far as striking the ball goes.
I don’t know why they would stop making balatas - seems like tour players would always want them regardless of times. I know I miss them.
Hitting it FAT has to do more with dropping down your shoulders in the backswing. If you stand tall in the backswing it's easy to hit it thin.
A 6 Wood??? And persimmon. Wow. Talk about a few years ago. The last time I saw a 6 wood was with my car mechanic. All he had was woods. He could not hit an iron. He had an 11 wood. Oh, he did have a wedge for sand. He was even lousy with that.
Every self respecting hacker has a sand wood in their bag.
"and have some fun with it..."
👍✌❤😎
Ok.... I would use this learning towards my understanding of my sex life let alone my golfing attributes 🙏❤️
Lee is the bomb, but he also knew how use chatter to get under the skin of the comp. He owns the rare claim of beating the worlds best at their best, similar to THE GREAT Gene Sarazen.
I don't think the ladies were talking about hitting fat shots lee. I think they were asking you something else buddy.
Cue roar of the crowd at 2:10.
6 wood?
Where's chi chi Rodriguez
This is frustrating to watch, because the entire club market WANTS YOU to hit UP on a fairway wood instead of taking a descending divot as you should.
@hotroute *LoL* that is hilarious
Golf needs to change its rule, no one should ever have to play from a lazy person's divot. I take it out and that's the way it should be.
Smart guy, but please stop saying your compressing it into the ground. It's impossible to do that ( unless you top it ) and you would never want to do that
if it was only this simple:)
that is mostly golf, were suppose to hit down on the ball with irons even woods.
U a true playa if you can constantly spank a persimmon 7wd..🤣
I love the "merry mex" but he is no teacher LoL. He keeps saying things like "hitting area" and "Hit" down on it yet there is NO HIT in his swing. I love the Merry Mex but you need more time playing to get what he is saying.
How many of you have actually used any and all the information this man just gave you,you dumbasses
This man also practices what he preaches and I don't know how to play golf but l will learn!
