billy and the guys have evolved immensely over all of these years, and this is the most mature, undefined and well covered genre album where billy’s also working well through more trauma and life experiences, such a beautiful album. so proud of them. you’ve got to see them live!

Thanks so much for watching! I'll probably skip this upcoming show because I hate arena concerts, but I have to believe he will do Red Rocks again at some point.

Billy has been a very busy boy for a while. I am very happy you enjoyed it. His albums are best listened to on headphones or on a really good car stereo with the windows rolled up. The last album was insanely good also so don't forget to check it out. I would also say you need to check out some videos of his guitars playing so you can see him in action. His writing is amazing but his guitar playing has people doing double takes. He does amazing covers too some of the videos that are on RUclips may not be great but if the sound is good listen. His on tour sound man is the shit, Andy Lytle, between him and Billys Frankenstein guitar his shows are out of this world.

    Hi!! Loved your review
Billy has played Red Rocks a number of times also he described his music as progressive bluegrass with psychedelic influences. Don’t forget that he was in a very heavy band for a couple of his teen years. In addition he has played Lincoln Center, with Chris Thile and Cory Henry. Amazing amazing talent ♥️🕊✌️

I assumed he had played Red Rocks a few times. I knew very little about him going into this album and review. Some of his older stuff is definitely more psychadelic and experimental from what I've listed to. I've really been enjoying his discography. Thanks so much for watching!

I really enjoyed your analysis and insights on this album.
What was the artist/song/album that you said was the greatest bluegrass ever?

Thanks so much for watching. In my humble opinion the album If Sorrow Swims by Greensky Bluegrass is the best modern bluegrass album. Not necessarily the best ever, but it was the album that got me into bluegrass and is still my favorite. Specifically, the opening song of Windshield is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

Thanks so much for the sub and comment! I actually just bought tickets for one of the Denver shows. I'm not a jam band guy, but I don't mind when a band gets jammy on stage. I'm a huge KGLW fan.

I really enjoyed your review but want to point out that you missed the fact that "Catch & Release" isn't about fishing and drinking, it's about fishing and smoking weed, so you can add another one to your list of country stoner songs. The lyrics are spoken in the old "Talking Blues" style like Jim Stafford's "Wildwood Weed". You can also add Billy's collaborations with Dierks Bentley on "High Note" and Willie Nelson on "California Sober" to your country stoner song collection.
I've been a Billy fan for almost a decade now and have to say that I was a little disappointed with this new album compared to his older stuff probably because it's more mainstream bluegrass than his earlier albums and my favorite songs are the ones that bend (or even break) the genre. I could listen to songs like "Away from the Mire", "Turmoil &Tinfoil", "Hide & Seek", and "Heartbeat of America" all day. I'd love to see you review the rest of Billy's discography! I'd also like to see you check out Molly Tuttle who is another up and coming bluegrass sensation.

You are absolutely right. I'm not sure how I missed that on the first 3 listens. I must have kept focusing on the "never mix your liquor with your wine" line. I'm definitely going to be checking out his older stuff. Thanks so much for watching!

Catch and release is not about drinking at all. Ruined the otherwise solid review. Did you even listen? Have fun at Ball Arena. I hope you get a Big Ball In Denver

Yea, this has been brought to my attention by multiple people. I'm not sure how I missed it, it is pretty obvious. I think I was too hung up on one of the last lines of never mix your wine and liquor. I always listen to an album 3 times before doing a review, but this was a long one and somehow missed that on all three listens.
