I’ve been a Tekken fan for forever, but it make me so proud how hype people are for the game and how well theyre doing. It’s been years since it’s been this popular.
The notorious player 1 swap was the biggest wtf moment of evo last year. Half the people didnt even know that was a rule until Sonicfox contested in grand finals.
Sonicfox in grand finals of DBFZ at Evo mid set requested to play on player one side. Not only was it confusing but Go1 was on a tear to become champion and Sonicfox stopped his momentum by having this controversy basically stop the tournament for a few minutes. Back in the arcade days you could request playing on either side mid set but that was well over 20 years ago. Find the vod on youtube, it was an amazing set.
Either Smash or Tekken makes the most sense. Smash Ultimate is this brand new hot and relevant game with the highest contestant count. Tekken 7 has been steadily overtaking Street Fighter as the hottest traditional fighting game. Both games make perfect sense and will be great options.
Bbtag is most likely on finals day cause we might be getting more DLC characters and another franchise added into the game plus more rwby characters. That makes the most sense to me imo
it's totally going to be smash ultimate, but i'd actually wished it was UNIST because that game totally needs more exposure considering FighterZ (another ArcSys game with an already large audience) is also going to be good exposure for ArcSys. UNIST is very underrated and is currently in BlazBlue and FighterZ' shadows. Its a great game too
@@Zippyd00da132 I mean if it wasn't for Smash it would totally be Tekken due to how it's basically the new EVO headliner over the typical Capcom game Competitive Tekken is actually a lot of fun to watch despite the fact I was never able to get into it myself
Tekken or Smash will definitely be frontline. Tekken has been gaining and sustaining players and viewers since it came out. Ever since EVO of 2018, it's popularity has skyrocketed. It truly is a good time to be a Tekken fan.
This is crazy!, How's that we're in 2019 and 6 of the main 9 games (starting by the main 4: Tekken, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and Samurai Shodown, the other two obviously: Super Smash Bros. and Soul Calibur ) of EVO which is the hugest celebration of fighting videogames worldwide, are games that we're playing since, and more than that, defined the panorama of videogames during the 90s? That brings tears to my eyes...
As someone from EU make smash the final game. Last year it took forever to watch Tekken because smash was before it. If it becomes the final game, I have to watch it at like 4 am.
I am gonna agree with most people that it should be Tekken 7 Smash is the scene I follow closest, and it's scene that has been doing really well and series doing really well for a long time (being very community run). It's mostly where it's been. Ultimate don't need to or have worked itself up to frontline anyhow, on top of it's hugely disliked by large part of the fgc Tekken is the esport I follow closest after smash, and in comparison is the definition of a scene worked itself hard to where it is. The growth of the community these past few years has been immense and I so glad for it. On top of it being now one of the most successful games in the current fgc esport circle, the story behind it's player and scene and it being a hype as fuck game. Their grind was real, they easily deserves the spot
Probably the wrong place to say this, but im happy BBTAG made Sunday. Pretty great community, fun mechanics, and engaging balance after the recent patch
If only the patch hit like, several months earlier. Its come too late and the godawful balance from before the patch has caused too many people to quit already.
Love BBTAG - probably the fighter I’ve played the most over the last year and a half ish... but don’t pretend the game is balanced. Balanced it is not.
vergilkilla1 Sorry i made i typo, i meant engaging balance patches Basically the only game where ive seen a strong effort to satisfy every player with interesting changes and buffs (barring characters that really needed a nerf like Gord) Im not sure where the balance is currently, though theres seems to be far more character diversity as of late I know Akihiko is strong which is different but yeah just wanted to clear that up
Everybody's going to expect a big Street Fighter announcement at the end of EVO. And at first it's going to look like a Street Fighter trailer, and it's gonna be awesome... And then as the tension builds, you hear a sound... _SNIKT_ The camera fades to black, and they say those words, "Capcom presents..." And Max loses his fucking mind.
After Max had his EVO moment in Dragon Ball FighterZ, everyone else realized they'd be measured against it so they quietly shuffled it off finals day to spare some feelings.
@Sarincrow I actually really liked that they added Videl and Kid Goku (GT). They're fun characters that play well. And I don't like Super at all myself, but I understand why they added Jiren- they have to satisfy that fan base and he was the last villain. But hey, everyone has their own opinion.
Sarincrow it’s unfortunate to say because I LOVE DBZ, but... This comment pretty much summarizes how I feel about DBFZ, lower tier characters/players like Chris G can be a treat to watch though.
@Sarincrow THANK you how does a game where everyone can fly in canon not have flight or real air dashes? why are auto-combos actually optima play? why does every character have the same throw? why are there no functional zoners? why are there no interesting mechanics? the answer all these questions is simple they wanted a game to appeal to casual dbz fans not the fgc. i mean theres a reason max still goes back to play mvci on occasion and hasnt done anything dbfz related in months.
I just got into fighting games and the Evo/FGC community and from my 2-3 months experience as an fledging outsider. Tekken indeed should be the one all I hear about is Tekken and all those recurring iconic moments that has basically kept happening that echos to the outside like Moment 37. To me nothing screams Evo than Tekken outside of Capcom games. Its so hype that I don't understand the game well but I still watch it.
@@saysay7191 yeah i think the version at the world tour finals was perfect but its still somewhat fun now i guess. i really would like double supers to comeback tbh even if they keep the meter nerf and other things
I think what held MK11 hype back is the roster. From the huge roster to the fraction of what MK11 has, casuals just dont like that. Also GG should've been there instead of BBTag.
considering how Nintendo made a Direct announcement last year and will probably do another one this year AND theyre holding an online tournament to FLY PLAYERS TO EVO, I think they'll be okay with it being the headliner that and smash takes the most time by far so no scheduling problems if you put it last lol
I just love Tekken so I'm biased but Tekken 7 has been so awesome to watch, all the hype moments and this game keeps suprising me everytime. I'm really looking forward for a season 3 announcement.
My 2c on MK11 is that I spent an absurd amount of time playing MKX. There's something that just feels off for me with MK11, and its not just they krypt or the mobile game stuff. It just feels weird. I jumped from MK1-4 to MKX and MKX felt like coming back to meet an old friend thats all grown up. MK11 is like that old friend is starting to make questionable choices. I'm firmly on the Tekken 7 train now.
THIS IS THE PERFECT TIME TO FINALLY ANNOUNCE TXSF Tekken's finished season pass 2, not much to add unless you're desperate. Street fighter's seemingly been on hiatus with character additions since kage. both latest titles have been out long enough for a crossover to be revealed (kinda like how they did it for SFxT with T6 and SF4 being out for some time) Both games have a cliffhanger story mode that they can come back to later or address both at once. AND AKUMA'S CANON INCLUSION IN TEKKEN NEEDS TO BE EXPLAINED
Tekken is the most hype to watch atm, so I don’t mind it being the main event. Would feel like the best note to end the event on. Street Fighter should be the main event when it’s the most hype, which back in the day it used to be, even with SFIV. And imo, SFV isn’t. Maybe not being the headliner would light a fire under Capcom‘s ass for SF6 as well...
I think during the invitacional of Smash at E3, Dough Bowser said that Nintendo would give fully pay entrances to EVO, so i think they are actually more open about EVO than before, that doesn't mean smash has to have the spotlight at EVO by any means
Man I really enjoy getting to learn about so many fighting games that I never really got to play because I was too young I remember getting my first PlayStation 2 I use to love playing Dragon ball Z Idek remember the names of the games I played but that is what made me fall so deep in love with video games. Love your channel man you guys are hilarious it’s nice to see you guys still play after so many years.
Short answer: Tekken. Long answer: Well...Tekken. haha, I thought all the same myself, but it's guaranteed to be hype and the game/community deserves it. I don't play the game myself and I may not even watch it, but that should be their spot.
Mortal Kombat 11 and SoulCalibur VI are by far my favorite games at EVO 2019. I wish Killer Instinct was there too. Still hope for some Virtua Fighter 6 news
Now listen. I fucking adore Ultimate. Its my favorite game of all time. Smash as a series is my favorite franchise period. Which is why its easy to say Tekken 7 deserves the slot. I understand the total legacy Melee has left on gaming as a whole. However, Tekken is a super underrated fighting game franchise compared to stuff like SF and Smash. Tekken 7 specifically has been out of the spotlight for 4 goddamn years. 4 YEARS. NAMCO HAS BEEN IN THE SHADOW OF CAPCOM WITH THIS GAME FOR 4 YEARS. Not to mention the fact that while Ultimate is the most fighting game of any smash game, Tekken 7 is a supremely polished 3D fighter, hell probably the best 3D fighter outside of Soul Calibur. So yeah Tekken deserves it.
Imagine a new Capcom vs SNK, with Capcom's budget, online and graphics, and SNK's passion, characters and "don't screw the customers" politics. One can only dream...
So even though MK is a new game and should realistically be on sunday at least this year, the problem is, EVO broadcasts on television now through Disney XD or whatever it is. They cant show all the blood and fatalities on live television. As much as it sucks if MK wants to reach a wider audience with through getting more coverage from these top tournaments they need like a "PG-13" mode. Dont get me wrong, it sucks cause thats one of the main draws for people to the MK franchise but if they want that sunday spot, they need it. Also im the camp of most entrants OR most support from the games developer to the prize pool should get the final on sunday
Tekken is just a great game to watch competitively. I personally cant say the same for Smash. Even MK is a bit meh watching if you aren’t that into it.
ikr, i show my friend who's literally not a fighting game player some of my favorite match, and really like talking about it, they talk about how hype lil majin match is even tho my friend didnt even know what button to jab. They talk about how awesome rangchu is for winning the twt, and how funny pokchop vs jeondding match. I bet alot of other game player at evo watch some good ass tekken while waiting their turn to play. sorry for my bad english
Hey max once again a video that makes me sit up and talk to my screen and think. I'm SUPER/ULTRA/ARCADE EDITION'LY late to alot of stuff, like i JUST started getting FULLY invested in SFV and TEKKEN 7 even found my pro fav's before i realised it. IF sfv isn't making the main show then i want tekken 7 to be the main, that SEASON 3 reveal if happens will make a huge impact at EVO, but there is something that might trump a season 3 dlc lineup for tekken7... A SFV SEASON 4 "DLC" "LINEUP"... WITH ONI AKUMA AND VIOLENT KEN AAAND GOUKEN. btw my fav for sfv is Tokido "Akuma" and my fav for tekken 7 is Lil Majin, and that's just the start for me.
I want it to be Smash. I love Tekken 7 the most, but I want it to be Smash. This is because it means I can go to bed at a reasonable hour after catching Tekken, as a European. I have no interest in SFV anymore and I've never had any in Smash, so I don't really care about which gets to "main event". Smash always causes delays, anyway. Give Tekken the 2nd spot so I can go to bed afterwards. PLEASE.
Dw, Ultimate games are quicker than smash 4 was... waaaay more quick. Also bracket is 2/3 except for top 3, top 3 is 3/5. And sorry but Tekken deserves it the most, nothing but respect for the game
It's worth noting that Smash 4's evo tournament aired on Disney XD, the only other game that also had that privilege to air on Disney was Street Fighter.
With the exception of smash, do you think the Sunday line up is based on the dlc showcase? For example, Blazblue cross tag is rumored to have a shit ton of characters coming in.
I low key hope that the Godzilla game that was rumored to be in E3 shows up here. Of course that’s just my wish for me and other Fighting game Godzilla fans.
I honestly think it should be Tekken 7. It's numbers have only gotten bigger over the years as has its popularity. It's fun to watch, it's usually really hype because a lot of the matches are pretty close, especially in top 16 and top 8. CEO, which was last weekend had somewhere between 25-35k viewers including restreams. Which I think are pretty huge numbers for a fighting game. Especially a fighting that isn't Street Fighter. They would profit a lot from frontlining it.
As a Smash player primarily, I would love to see the game headline EVO. However, I'm not sure it's time, and it would be sick to see Tekken 7 get the honor this year. Great video and perspectives. I started following you when I was picking up Fighterz, and it's interesting hearing more objective opinions on Smash from the FGC.
As a melee guy I actually didn't really have an issue with the idea of Evo dropping melee, but I did have an issue with them dropping it THIS YEAR and I feel like this vid kinda helps illustrate my point. Unlike most smashers I actually do follow other games in the FGC and it was really obvious that outside the hype for the new games(UNIST and SamSho) there isn't a huge amount of hype around the current lineups of games. SF5 has been dragged by the community basically since the day it came out, the writing was on the walls with DBZF from all the weird Namco Bandai interventions, Cross Tag is great but still a niche game. Like from a business standpoint: Keep melee this year and take the free revenue the smashers will give then drop it next year.
I gotta go with Tekken 7. It's still the hypest and most fun to watch imo. No fireball spamming, well at least not to the level of some of these other fighting games.
I guess it depends on what is more important to EVO, views on the streams, or number of entrants in the tournaments. If the latter, Smash should get it most likely, but your points about Nintendo are valid and possibly holding it back. Bit for viewers, I hear Tekken is getting great viewer numbers, more than most other games? That certainly gives it the edge for many
I want it to be Tekken 7.

Tekken 7 is easily the best spectator game to watch. It has so many hype moments with fun and charming personalities like Lil Maijin and MainmanSwe.
Please reveal or at the least announce Tekken X Street Fighter.
Also Heihachi for Smash
I want Jin on smash tbh,so he can have a badass final smash!
I want a Tekken rep in smash so much.
Heihachi or Kazuya
Who would voice him though?
@@ceriani1234 that is the hard part.
Completely out of topic, but I just wish KI had more tournaments apart from Combo Breaker, that game is just pure hype for me all the time.
KI definitely needs love. I guess it being an Xbox exclusive is holding it back.
somany5 Oh shit I forgot about the PC release.
Tekken 7. It is the gold standard for fighting games right now.
Capcom needs to do a "Throwback" section at EVO and head it with the RivalSchools series.
Smash because it's the largest and putting it any sooner than the final game may cause delays.
Wait what happened?
Replying to be notified when what happened is hopefully explained
Sonicfox in grand finals of DBFZ at Evo mid set requested to play on player one side. Not only was it confusing but Go1 was on a tear to become champion and Sonicfox stopped his momentum by having this controversy basically stop the tournament for a few minutes. Back in the arcade days you could request playing on either side mid set but that was well over 20 years ago.
Find the vod on youtube, it was an amazing set.
A good player should be able to play from either side.
Did Max really make me sit thru a nearly 25 minute video for a meme?
Nice one.
let me save you 24 min its MVCI
Either Smash or Tekken makes the most sense. Smash Ultimate is this brand new hot and relevant game with the highest contestant count. Tekken 7 has been steadily overtaking Street Fighter as the hottest traditional fighting game. Both games make perfect sense and will be great options.
But smash isnt a fighting game
Ali R. At least it’s winning the poll on Twitter. ;)

Honestly Tekken 7 has MORE than earned the top spot.
Man I think we should get a new KI🤞🏾
Bbtag is most likely on finals day cause we might be getting more DLC characters and another franchise added into the game plus more rwby characters. That makes the most sense to me imo
Senkan Kagura or whatever the titty water squirting game was called was in the leaklist was it not?
I hope we get more character interactions. Naoto, seth, teddie, and heart don't have one.
HellecticMojo it looks like they were planning for Senran then it fell through. That’s why they took 10 months to come out with 4 characters
it's totally going to be smash ultimate, but i'd actually wished it was UNIST because that game totally needs more exposure considering FighterZ (another ArcSys game with an already large audience) is also going to be good exposure for ArcSys. UNIST is very underrated and is currently in BlazBlue and FighterZ' shadows. Its a great game too
I love UNIST. It's my favorite of ArcSys's works.

Being objective as possible, it should be Tekken or Smash
harada will announce the season 3
i'll be damned if the guest character isn't kiryu kazuma
Tekken baby lets go
Tekken or Smash will definitely be frontline.
Woh! If they make Tekken 7 the final game, I'll actually stay to the end of the tournament!
As someone from EU make smash the final game. Last year it took forever to watch Tekken because smash was before it. If it becomes the final game, I have to watch it at like 4 am.
I pretty much said the same thing, if smash ends up being the last game that just means I get to sleep normally, so good news for me.
Wish SCVI was more popular but I’m definitely looking forward to it at EVO
I am gonna agree with most people that it should be Tekken 7
Smash is the scene I follow closest, and it's scene that has been doing really well and series doing really well for a long time (being very community run). It's mostly where it's been. Ultimate don't need to or have worked itself up to frontline anyhow, on top of it's hugely disliked by large part of the fgc
Tekken is the esport I follow closest after smash, and in comparison is the definition of a scene worked itself hard to where it is. The growth of the community these past few years has been immense and I so glad for it. On top of it being now one of the most successful games in the current fgc esport circle, the story behind it's player and scene and it being a hype as fuck game. Their grind was real, they easily deserves the spot
Tekken 7 should be man its been super great
Probably the wrong place to say this, but im happy BBTAG made Sunday.
Balanced it is not.
vergilkilla1
Sorry i made i typo, i meant engaging balance patches
Basically the only game where ive seen a strong effort to satisfy every player with interesting changes and buffs (barring characters that really needed a nerf like Gord)
Im not sure where the balance is currently, though theres seems to be far more character diversity as of late
I know Akihiko is strong which is different but yeah just wanted to clear that up
Everybody's going to expect a big Street Fighter announcement at the end of EVO. And at first it's going to look like a Street Fighter trailer, and it's gonna be awesome...
And then as the tension builds, you hear a sound...
_SNIKT_
The camera fades to black, and they say those words, "Capcom presents..."
And Max loses his fucking mind.
♪YYYEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHH♪
Or maybe Darkstalkers.
After Max had his EVO moment in Dragon Ball FighterZ, everyone else realized they'd be measured against it so they quietly shuffled it off finals day to spare some feelings.
Or they did that so we didn't have two games that ran long on the same day.
What killed the FighterZ hype was when they stopped allowing tournaments for a little while. Really sad.
I've played every Tekken game since I was a little kid and man Tekken 7 is the best. I wanna see The King of Iron Fist take the throne
Man it's still so amazing to see Under Night going to EVO. Also reminder a switch version is on the way

I think what held MK11 hype back is the roster. From the huge roster to the fraction of what MK11 has, casuals just dont like that. Also GG should've been there instead of BBTag.
considering how Nintendo made a Direct announcement last year and will probably do another one this year AND theyre holding an online tournament to FLY PLAYERS TO EVO, I think they'll be okay with it being the headliner
that and smash takes the most time by far so no scheduling problems if you put it last lol
Well Max just confirmed we'll never see a rate the super for Under Night and he'll probably won't play BBTag again

Well like max I prefer GG over BBTAG.
THIS IS THE PERFECT TIME TO FINALLY ANNOUNCE TXSF
Tekken's finished season pass 2, not much to add unless you're desperate.
Street fighter's seemingly been on hiatus with character additions since kage.
both latest titles have been out long enough for a crossover to be revealed (kinda like how they did it for SFxT with T6 and SF4 being out for some time)
Both games have a cliffhanger story mode that they can come back to later or address both at once.

Well we already know that we'll get 3DLCs....
CTR nitro fueled is so awesome that deserves to be on a EVO-like event, if exists already for racing games.
@Dave lol gottem
I haven't felt hype for a Capcom fighter since SF4 and UMvC3.
I think during the invitacional of Smash at E3, Dough Bowser said that Nintendo would give fully pay entrances to EVO, so i think they are actually more open about EVO than before, that doesn't mean smash has to have the spotlight at EVO by any means
I'm surprised to see so much love go out to Tekken. In these dark times, we need an OG front running when Capcom is down on their luck.
Why are you surprised to see folks loving tekken?!
I mean.... IT'S IN THE TOP 5 GREATEST GAMES OF ALL TIME!

I believe that Tekken 7 is going to create a lot of Hype at EVO. It deserves to be the face of EVO this year.
Considering how hype the previous Smash tournaments were, Smash is guaranteed to be hype af.
I don't play Tekken but I love watching some good ass Tekken and think it deserves the top spot.
I watched a Panda win Evo last year and it was epic as hell. I agree that Tekken deserves the top spot.
Wolesome af. Also god bless I feel like so many people trash talk ult for no reason. I also think Ultimate is amazing!
Imagine a new Capcom vs SNK, with Capcom's budget, online and graphics, and SNK's passion, characters and "don't screw the customers" politics. One can only dream...
It should be Tekken. Tekken7 has become a legendary game.
If there's something we learned from EVO 2018 it's that Tekken 7 deserves it
TEKKEN!
It’s also due to how many viable characters there are. The overall roster is very balanced.
OH STARTED TYPING TOO EARLY, MVC2 PLEASE, TAKE MY MONEY.
One of these years, I will grow the balls to come and try to complete. Hope to meet you there one year. Keep up the awesome content👍

T7 is so popular because we have our boy Tasy Steve
MAKE SOME NOISE
Gimme some goodasstekken!!
