    Those of you who are complaining about this track have no idea what you are talking about and about the history of this place. Costa Mesa Speedway is the center of the universe for speedway racing in the United States. Back in the '70's, this place was hopping every weekend. There were also other tracks in SoCal so there was racing 3 or 4 nights a week. And the top riders did go to Europe and do very well. That is hallowed ground there.

    Anyone who wants to see a real speedway you must go to Poland. The level of competition is simply breath-taking.

    Congratulations to everyone making speedway happen in America . At the same time now I understand why Greg Hancock went to the UK. America has a very long ways to go if they are going to compete in the class of riders for a world title. I hate to say it but I don't think they could even qualify for a ride in a GP .

    Strange. American, u may think it is such a modern country etc but speedway track is so dangerous... No airbags on corners, cushions, low walls short track with no speed on straight...

    Track looks like it's too short. There is no straights, all curve. I hope we get more US speedway riders to Speedway GP series. Greg Hancock is magnificent but we need more.

      Jack Londonen The track is short, very short. I have seen some of the best races I have ever seen at this track. and I have been to all kinds of tracks, including Wembly. This is the track that Bruce Penhall had his first race at. I got to see it.

    To all the guys that have been commenting and don't understand the concept or the size of the track here is the specs for how they are run in Europe,Australia, and New Zealand.
    Speedway racing takes place on a level oval track consisting of two straights joined by two semicircles. Tracks must be between 260 and 425 metres (853 and 1394 ft) in length, this is measured at a distance of 1 metre (3.3 ft) from the inner boundary.and here's the specs for the bikes.....Use a four stroke, single cylinder engine and be a maximum capacity of 500ccWeigh no less than 77kgs (no fuel)Use pure methanol as fuelBe fitted with an approved silencerBe fitted with a dirt deflectorHave guards fitted over moving engine parts (where possible)Use a chain guard for where the chain meets the sprocket by a chainHave a peg fitted (Dutch peg) to prevent a broken primary chain causing injury.
    These speedway bikes were not and are not meant or set up to be on theae half mile or bigger tracks.ya wanna get into the bigger tracks then ya get into the AMA Flat Track Association racing.
    Seems like a lot of guys don't know or understand the difference or didn't wanna look it up before they started commenting lol.and speedway racing is very predominantly in Europe. Would love to see more of this racing here for sure

      And don’t forget about asscot speedway that we used have that was a half mile track in Long Beach .top speeds of 80 100 mph down the straits. To bad that tore it down

    • @deannederhoff
      @deannederhoff 5 лет назад +1

      @@trollslayer9366 totally different than what we are talking about here.but yes my cousin was out there for the last Sprint car race there.
      These bikes are known as speedway bikes And there are very few tracks out here compared to in Europe for speedway racing.you couldn't drive a modified,late model,or a sprint on this track. Maybe a midget or smaller

      @johncalvin6630 6 лет назад

      That’s because overseas you have dog tracks everywhere which is where most races are; they’re approximately 400 meter tracks give or take. When Speedway was first introduced in America there were not large track type facilities available. What was plentiful & abundant were rodeo arenas & that’s where most tracks in the US were put thus being smaller than overseas.

    You want to make this sport explode, put in some betting windows! As an American Motocross racer In England in the 1970's, these guys took me into their clubs and showed me the ropes. It's a lot more exciting on a slightly longer track where these riders can shift there weight back for traction and rocket into the next turn! Just incredible acceleration. The wagering is what got the crowd really into it. They had fancy glass enclosed lounges with bars and some real action.

      Better? Speedway is neither better nor worse because it is its own animal - what’s better, a gerbil or an elephant?
      Costa Mesa is not what most Speedway is - in my opinion, it is not representative of normal tracks, but it is a center, somehow, of “Speedway” in the USA.
      I’ve raced half mile, short track, TT and Speedway. I’ve nothing more intense or rewarding as a rider than the Speedway experience.

    I worked MEDICAL on these races; My heart raced, until they reached the 2d lap, and then it was a good race; when it reached 1:40 on this race, it would be a bad night. Great fun and cool bunch of riders to work with. Talked with Jim "The Animal" Fishback a lot, when he quit racing and became a track official.
