    When it started flowing into the tank my dog farted lmfao 🤣 I didn’t realize it at first and I was like what the f how the hell am I smelling that.
    Also on my camper I added an adapter with an on and off valve so after I close the valve on the black water tank I can shoot freshwater down the hose to wash it out keeps from having anything dried up in the hose also helps clean the hose a little bit before you disconnect it

    It's gotta go somewhere doesn't it?... But I am really impressed that you don't shirk any duties no matter how distasteful. Obviously, your journey to captain involved the process of starting at the bottom (where the dirty jobs are definately part of it) and working your way up, but your current position doesn't seem to make you above some of the dirty work... and it definately DOES happen for many. As an ex-Chef, I ALWAYS used to get involved in the big cleaning processes, the monthly big jobs or even bigger. Don't expect others to do what you're not prepared to do yourself! I would think from a sanitary perspective that there would be a port on the top of the tank to connect the discharge to, with a shut off at the end of the hose. This way the exterior of the hose will never come into contact with waste water. Currently the hose is tied to a scaffold that any person unknowingly can come into contact with sewage.

    Just a note , you put on gloves to handle the pipe that pumps into the “shore tank” Can clearly see the gloves have dirt or whatever else on. When you go back onto your ship you keep those dirty gloves on turn the handle while still wearing the gloves where you handled a dirty pipe. Same gloves still on you turn the the switch for pump to stop. Germs distributed everywhere. Gloves never move from one area to another , that is how germ transmission occurs . Hepatitis is a very hardy germ.

    nup - sewerage has a density very close to water - you can assume they are the same. If you remove the solids from the sewerage water, the solids are generally less dense as they contain air when density is measured.

    One question, How did you clear that line afterwards? Especially the standing pipe above the discharge valve. Looks like a messy disconnection job. Did you just leave it in place until the final dump (no pun intended) of the refit? I would think that after initial cleanout, the workers would be required to use shore facilities.

    'Gamazine stops the pipes from blocking.' Hahahahahahahaa. After 35 years at sea as an engineer that's hilarious. And the sewage treatment plant should always be used even if it's to ensure that the air bubblers are working to avoid anaerobic breakdown of sewage which gives off hydrogen sulphide which, is deadly - see the deaths of two children on the Irish Ferries a few years ago.
    As for the water testing? The tanks should be tested of course but the vital one is the tap/faucet at the furthest point from the tanks as possible to ensure that the free chlorine level is still above the minimum.

    What is the practical benefit of splitting gray and black water? Obviously there is more gray water but everything still needs to be discharged. is there a lower cost to discharge gray water or is it easier to discharge at sea?

    • @alandunlop7890

      In most places, grey water can just be discharged straight to sea, even in “no discharge” areas like the Puget Sound. Most smaller boats are not set up to hold grey water, it just drains overboard. I don’t know if there’s a different rule for larger vessels like AWOL

      Usually, if you’re only using biodegradable cleaning products like we do, the grey can be discharged in coaster areas.

    Shipyard should have a closed link to local sewer. Hose needs its own valves at both ends. Those vapors can be lethal. Also some mention of the normal operation of the MSD (marine sanitation device) or sewage treatment system, which treats sewage to a state permissible for discharge at sea, might have been helpful to non-mariners. I like your videos. After retirement as engineer on tugs I sailed on large yachts for a few years. Loved getting the deckies involved in some of the dirty work.

    Hey Tristan, been away for awhile. Is the raffle still on for the cruise on AWOL?

      @fixitguy3475 3 года назад +1

      Hey, I just checked the raffle site. They need to sell 40,000 tickets and have only sold 7274 of them. It looks like it will be awhile before I can take my cruise on AWOL. LOL

    • @SuperYachtCaptain
      @SuperYachtCaptain  3 года назад

      Yes, it’s still ongoing. This pandemic has really slowed ticket sales down. But still pushing forward.

    Everything was really helpful. The only thing that I found disgusting was you after handling the dirt pipe you didn’t change the cloves and went inside the boat and contaminated everything that you have touched, including the control panel buttons. I believe that you should have disposed the cloves before getting back to the boat.

      I suspect they leave the hose connected all the time they are in dry dock. The while-docked clip showed them using sea-water to flush the hose, prior to it being stowed.
