Erich Alfred Hartmann (German. Erich Alfred Hartmann (19 April 1922 - 19 September 1993) was a German ACE pilot, considered the most successful fighter pilot in the history of aviation. Call Sign "Karaya 1". During the Second world war, he flew 1,404 sorties, winning 352 aerial victories (347 of them over Soviet aircraft) in 802 air battles. For his small height and youthful appearance, he received the nickname "Bubi" (baby, boy) from his comrades. As a pre-war glider pilot, Hartmann joined the Luftwaffe in 1940, and completed pilot training courses in 1942. Soon he was sent to the Eastern front in the 52nd fighter squadron (it. Jagdgeschwader 52), where he came under the care of experienced Luftwaffe fighter pilots. Under their leadership, Hartmann developed his skills and tactics, which eventually earned him the Knight's cross of the Iron cross with Oak leaves, Swords, and Diamonds on August 25, 1944, for the 300th confirmed aerial victory. [1] Erich Hartmann achieved his 352nd and final victory in the air on may 8, 1945. Hartmann and the remaining soldiers from JG 52 surrendered to American forces, but were handed over to the red Army. As a prisoner of war accused of damaging socialist property (since there were no facts about his involvement in war crimes) and sentenced to 25 years in high-security camps, Hartmann spent 10 and a half years in them, until 1955. In 1956, he joined the rebuilt Luftwaffe of West Germany, and became the first commander of the JG 71 "Richthoffen" squadron. In 1970, he left the army, largely due to his rejection of the American Lockheed f-104 Starfighter, which was then manned by the German troops, and constant conflicts with his superiors. Erich Hartmann died in 1993 Ivan Kozhedub was born in the village of Obrazhiyivka, Glukhovsky district, Chernihiv province (now shostkinsky district, Sumy region of Ukraine) in the family of a peasant churchwarden[4]. Ukrainian [5]. He belonged to the second generation of Soviet fighter pilots who took part in the great Patriotic war. In 1934, Kozhedub graduated from school and entered the chemical and technological College in the city of Shostka. I took my first steps in aviation while studying at the Shostka Aero club. In early 1940, he joined the red Army and graduated from the Chuguev military aviation school of pilots in the fall of the same year, after which he continued his service as an instructor. After the beginning of the war, the city of Shymkent was evacuated to Kazakhstan together with the aviation school. On February 23, 1942, Kozhedub was promoted to the rank of senior Sergeant. In November 1942, Kozhedub was seconded to the 240th fighter aviation regiment of the 302nd fighter aviation division (co 2.7.1944 14th guards fighter aviation division), forming in Ivanovo. In March 1943, as part of the division, he flew to the Voronezh front. The first air battle ended in failure for Kozhedub and almost became the last-his La-5 was damaged by a Messerschmitt-109 cannon burst, an armoured car saved him from an incendiary shell, and when returning the plane was fired by Soviet anti-aircraft gunners, it was hit by 2 anti-aircraft shells. Despite the fact that Kozhedub managed to land the plane, it was not subject to full recovery, and the pilot had to fly on the "remnants" - available in the squadron of free aircraft. Soon they wanted to take him to the post of notification, but the commander of the regiment stood up for him. In the early summer of 1943, Kozhedub was promoted to the rank of second Lieutenant, then he was appointed to the position of Deputy squadron commander. Soon after, on July 6, 1943, on the Kursk bulge, during the fortieth sortie, Kozhedub shot down his first German Junkers u-87 bomber. The next day, he shot down a second one, and on July 9, he shot down 2 Bf-109 fighters at once. The first title of Hero of the Soviet Union Kozhedub (already a senior Lieutenant) was awarded on February 4, 1944 for 146 sorties and 20 downed enemy aircraft. Since may 1944, Ivan Kozhedub fought on the La-5FN (onboard number 14), built at the expense of the collective farmer-beekeeper of the Stalingrad region, V. V. Konev. In August 1944, after receiving the rank of captain, he was appointed Deputy commander of the 176th guards regiment and began to fight on the new La-7 fighter. Kozhedub was awarded the second gold Star medal on August 19, 1944 for 256 sorties and 48 downed enemy aircraft. By the end of the war, Ivan Kozhedub, by then a major in the guards, flew the La-7, made 330 sorties, and shot down 62 enemy aircraft in 120 air battles, including 17 Ju-87 dive bombers, 2 Ju-88 and He-111 bombers, 16 Bf-109 and 21 Fw-190 fighters, 3 Hs-129 attack planes, and 1 Me-262 jet fighter. [6] The last battle in the Great Patriotic War, in which he shot down 2 FW-190, Kozhedub spent April 17, 1945 in the sky over Berlin. Kozhedub received the third gold Star medal on August 18, 1945 for high military skill, personal courage and bravery shown on the war fronts. He was an excellent marksman and preferred to open fire at a distance of 200-300 meters, rarely approaching at a shorter distance. In his autobiography, Kozhedub claims that he shot down two American P-51 Mustang aircraft of the US air force in 1945, which attacked him, mistaking him for a German plane. [7] I. N. Kozhedub was never shot down during the great Patriotic war, and although he was shot down, he always landed his plane. Kozhedub's account also includes the world's first jet fighter, the German Me-262, which he shot down on February 19, 1945, but he was not the first to do so - as early as August 28, 1944, one downed Me-262 was recorded on the account of American pilots M. Kroy and J. KRO. Myers [8]. After the war, Kozhedub continued to serve in the air force. In 1949, he graduated from the red banner Air force Academy. At the same time, he remained an active fighter pilot, having mastered the MiG-15 jet in 1948. During the Korean war, from April 1951 to January 1952, he commanded the 324th fighter aviation division in the 64th fighter aviation corps. During this time, the division's pilots won 216 aerial victories, losing only 27 vehicles (9 pilots were killed). Since 1971, he served in the Central office of the air force, and since 1978 - in the Group of General inspectors of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR. Only a few (three or four) MiG-15s were shot down by B-29A gunners during the KW and virtually all of those fighters were flown by inexperienced pilots who attacked the bombers from 6-o'clock level. The defensive systems on the B-29 were designed to track and engage fighters coming in at about 350-knots. Still, great video.
When I hear this song, I feel the incredible pain of someone who knows that they now have to hurt another person whose love they can no longer reciprocate, a person with whom a once-happy relationship has ended. It has ended and brought awareness that no other choice is possible. This is not a story of someone finding someone else, and leaving a former 'someone' behind. This is someone leaving someone - without any replacement. It is a break from something into nothing. It is a hard, hard pain when nothing is a better solution for us than being with a person who loves us. Not a song about the pain felt by those who are left behind but a song about pain felt by those who are doing the leaving.
Aerobatic/pilotage games are the only ones where stuff like this happens on occasion. Never to this degree of organization, but it always happens around bombers. I have some great screenshots of some real fun times i had with the people there. My only regret is not taking more screenshots of even better times i had with them than the ones i had. And now, after a year or two of absence, all those people dont seem to play anymore. Fun times. I will miss it.
