  • Malcolm dam is FULL and our 2018 campsite is under water!! We were last here 5yrs and 11mts ago and it was very dry. Then, a couple of weeks ago the Leonora region received a lot of rain and Malcolm Dam is Full. Time to pack the car and head up there. On arrival at Malcolm Dam we could see our camp spot from 2018 was underwater and the track down to it wasn't accessible.
Around Malcolm Dam we noticed some shelters had been erected since our 2018 visit however most of these we now in the water as was one of the rubbish skip bins. The original two shelters at the entrance were useable, they're on higher ground. Unfortunately, with so much water in and around Malcolm Dam and Leonora, together with the strong winds, there was very little birdlife or wildlife around when we were there. We weren't disappointed though, Mt Malcolm took on a new appearance with so much water in front of it and made for a lovely view.
As the afternoon rolled by and the winds blew stronger, it was interesting to see white caps on Malcolm Dam. As we settled in for the night you could hear the white caps lapping at the edge of the dam below us. The winds blew all night and the next morning and you could be forgiven for thinking you were looking out across a stormy muddy ocean.
Malcolm Dam is a short drive out from the town of Leonora and is one of 15 points of interest on the Darlot Loop trail from Leonora. .... and it's still a nice spot to camp
Malcolm Dam is on the traditional lands of the Wangkatha People.

WOW!! only been there twice and it certainly wasn't that full, soo much water. that row of tree tops you can just see in the middle you could see the full trees. In fact i walked on the bed of the dam, there were just a couple of puddles and there was "grass" growing on it. What a difference some rain makes to our country.💦💦💦👏

Thanks for the comment, Malcolm Dam at this visit was the fullest that I have ever seen and does show how much water this small dam can hold.
