    You Rock Sir! Just bought the "Backpacker". Waiting impatiently for it to arrive. I have all the tools to refill my own bottles.
    When the backpacker arrived, I open the box and OH NO. This will not work! Then I came across your lifesaving video.
    Always a pleasure to learn new things from a fine youtuber. Thanks for the lesson!

    I would assume the propane burns differently, different temperatures, and air mixture. Does it impact the performance and does it use the pads faster?

    • @TheNorthwoodsRVLife
      @TheNorthwoodsRVLife  Год назад +3

      I have actually not had any noticeable performance issues. The pads still last the rated 4+ hours. The only noticeable difference is I only used a single 1lb propane take per Therrmacell for the entire 2022 camping season. I have two of the Gen2 Backpackers, and they both have worked great with this conversion. Others have had issues with different brand adapters not wanting to light or stay lit, but I have had none of those issues with the adapter in the video. There is a link in the description of the exact adapter I used. Hope this was useful and thanks for watching!

    I’ve been using this hack as well as refilling camp fuel cans with butane and it seems like no matter what I use for fuel, my thermacell runs for a few minutes and then goes out. I don’t think it’s a fuel issue but I’m wondering if you or anyone else has issues with the thermacell going out? Ty!

    • @MittyNuke1
      @MittyNuke1 2 года назад +3

      @@JohnSmith-jv1zg I ended up taking my thermacell apart because I realized it was going out even using a normal pre filled camp fuel canister. If I remember correctly there are two tiny filters in the fuel line, and I removed one of them and replaced it with a tiny bit of stuffed cotton from the top of a q-tip and it’s been working since then. I think commercial propane fuel isn’t as clean as camp fuel or the thermacell butane cartridges so it’s possible it could clog the tiny orifices in the thermacell.

    Hi buddy, thanks for this, I was researching exactly this kind of mod and couldn’t find anything else online! I know on the thermacell website they specifically tell you not to use propane only fuel. I assume this is because of the value in doing it with a 1lb propane tank. Can you confirm you’ve had no issues with your thermacell since you put this video up? Still works just fine?

      Propane has 3-4 times the vapor pressure of butane, per contained volume. Why we use it up north in the cold.
      I would assume Thermocell warns against propane for liability reasons, and also that the internal pressure regulator probably/possibly could wear itself out faster.
      A lot of people comment on how their T-Cell won’t stay lit when burning on these adapters. It is simply too small of a burner, overwhelmed by too much gas pressure for the oxygen that it can get.

    • @ashley-joa.p.3159
      @ashley-joa.p.3159 Год назад

      @jaredbaratono897 is there anything that can be done to fix that problem ? Would trying a different adapter possibly allow a different regulatory flow?

    • @jaredbaratono897
      @jaredbaratono897 Год назад

      @@ashley-joa.p.3159 I don’t know of one, but I am know it’s possible. Or just burn out a Thermacell every couple years, because to adapt it down, it would cost more than the replacement.

      First thing I would make sure is the backpacker version you have is the Gen2 version, and if the adapter you got is the same one I have listed in the description, I have two of these setups and have been using them both over a year now without any issues.
