    Very late comment, but just my overall take on the theme of the album.
    Most songs have a very cryptic underlying tone of being mournful for the environment and an attack on consumerism (like in Superfast Jellyfish).
    Some songs also appear to be ballads about relationships, like Rhinestone Eyes or To Binge. But its more to me like a ballad to mother nature, and how we are losing our connection to it through modern practices

    Gorillaz is not a real band. It is the frontman of popular 90s band 'Blur', Damon Albarn, who writes the songs and sings most of them. They are a virtual band set up by Damon at the beginning of the 2000s as an experiment.

  • @separator94
    @separator94 3 года назад +5

    Not as good as Demon Days, which is their best, and most highly acclaimed, album. Plastic Beach has some good songs (about half of them) but is overall bloated and overproduced. Then there's the fact that it's a concept album about a garbage pile. The entire thing reeks of trying too hard.
    Oh, and Gorillas is Damon Albarn's (from Blur) group.

    • @bill8856
      @bill8856 3 года назад +2

      Absolutely! This album was a big disappointment for Gorillaz fans when it came out. It bombed as far as sales go, as well. It's actually one of their worst selling albums in their discography and only sold 2.8 million albums to date! Demon Days sold over 11 million and their self titled (first) album sold 9 million.
      It's interesting because when it was released people initially liked it, but after a week or so of it coming out people started to talk about how they actually weren't caring for it too much. Upon first listen it sounds pretty cool but after hearing it two or three times you start to realize it's just not that great. Like Damon had this loose idea and instead of writing it all himself had a bunch of people collaborate on it. It has a lot of flash, and catchy tunes, but is overall a shallow album that has very little staying power. It kinda lulls you in with the illusion of sounding complex and deep but after hearing the tracks a few times you realize that they're actually very basic, shallow and have little to no emotion to them. There are a couple songs I genuinely do like, and consider good by Gorillaz standards, but even those don't come close to the originality, or overall inherent quality, of Demon Days (or their first album).
      As far as production goes Plastic Beach definitely has the most, however. Unfortunately production means very little when it comes to music. It's akin to graphics for video games. Just because you have flashy graphics doesn't mean you have a great game.

    • @separator94
      @separator94 3 года назад +1

      @@bill8856 Well said. I mean, I don't consider Plastic Beach their worst album but it is definitely *not* their best. Their last album, the one with that song with Jack Black in it (which is amazing by the way) was a terrible album overall.
      Demon Days was the best because it not only had lots of incredible songs but it had an entire mythological story to it which was really cool. With Plastic Beach I think Damon had one last idea he wanted to throw everything at and, while it wasn't terrible, it was just kind of all over the place. Like quantity came before quality. Again, there was quality there but it was mixed in with a handful of lesser tracks that didn't need to be there.

    • @za-ir5ni
      @za-ir5ni 3 года назад +10

      @@separator94 Both of you are actually insane. It's just about as critically acclaimed as Demon Days and made many top ten lists of that year and the decade. It's very arguable that it's their best album if not at least their second best. And since 2010 it has aged incredibly well.

    A few things about Gorillaz.
    It’s a fictional band with four members (2D, Murdoc, Noodle, and russel)
    But in real life There is only two members of Gorillaz
    Damon Albarn is the singer on all the songs
    Jamie Hewlett is the artist who makes the album covers and drew and creative the virtual band.
    There is also deep lore hidden in the music videos and some of the lyrics. It’s obscure but there is a lot of videos explaining it in RUclips
