Thank you for sharing your progress. Growing up in Southeast Asia I have never ever seen a pandan seed before. We just happened to have a huge bush of Pandan in the garden at home and just cut off the leaves as needed LOL. Now moving to Europe, these leaves cost super expensive here! I have to laugh at myself that now I have to order Pandan seeds from Amazon and plant them from seeds. Your video is really encouraging! Thank you!
the pandan that we use for culinary purposes in South East Asia is the Pandanus Amaryllifolius(fragrant pandan) and usually propagated from root division never from seeds. The one you may have purchased with seeds could be the Pandanus utilis which may look similar since it's from the same pandanus family, but not for culinary use.
So aromatic as well. I boil my tea and mix fresh pandan leaf in the boiling water for 30 mins. Smells fantastic.
How can you tell the difference between the male and female. Someone told me the female is the edible one. Does anyone know if that is true?
Put it in your rice while it cooks.
I have been searching for this plant for a long time..today i got them..gonna plant it in my garden...so excited
Hope it's available In South India
Thanks for the simple and concise guide to growing Pandan, Mike. You covered all aspects of growing Pandan that helps fellow gardeners in doing Pandan cultivation.
Yo, Luke! So glad to find you here! I was looking through RUclips videos and wondered how to find a good one. Decided to start here and what luck! I just got a pandan plant today. I’m excited. I love pandan!
But from where to get the initial plant? I wished you would have spoken about that. Anyone having suggestions for me? Thanks.
When do you transfer it to a bigger pot and how big is the pot? I just received it about 4 days ago
i was frantically looking for pandan plant, i became aware of this herb only yesterday, i do remember my mother adding a few leaves to the biriyani, a rice dish with basmati rice and meat, i presently live in southern california, but our weather is similar to southern arizona, desert heat summer temperatures reaching 100 and bove certain days 117, almost zero humidity, my only question, can i grow it indoors? by the way your video was precise, upto the point and extreemly informative, im originally from southern india..
Your passion for tropical flora is inspiring, keep it up! I'm gonna check out your patchauli video now :)
Onlinetill9 Thank you so much! I am thrilled that you love the videos I do!
Is it possible to feed the pandan NPK 24-8-16 instead? I've been growing pandan in water for 6months and now have just potted it into soil. Wondering wht other best fertiliser ratio to let it flourish. The pandan has not been given anything for the entire 6 months it was in water. Please advice.
OMG! Is this LUKE from MiGardener? Is this your company? So happy to see you. Thank you for the tips here. Can you link it to your Mi page pls? So helpful! Thanks so much!
I thought the same thing!
OMG Luke! Hahaha What a pleasant surprise to find you here! I am OBSESSED with Pandan! I have one there I placed in morning sun only because sun is really intense in So Cal. It's hot and dry, which causes the leaves to burn if they get afternoon sun in the summer. These grow as understory in the rain forest. I do need to spend up it's growth so I can start harvesting it.
Your correct. I also have experienced growing these under the shade of another tree. It doesn't need too much sun I think...
@@j0shknXOi am confused, i watch so much video and some said pandan love shade and some said love sun.
I would like to grow a pandan plant. Where would I get one? I live in Canada.
Where does one get a rooted start? Or can pandan be rooted from a store bought bunch? Or seeds?
Can you grow in water instead of soil?
Dang, I can't grow this in Oregon. Do they make a decent houseplant?
Great presentation and info. Thank you. I killed my Pandan plants many times overs, but thanks to a fare abundant supply, courtesy from my brother in FL. Lol. I live in IN.

Any idea/tips on germinating seeds for this, I'm struggling to find info.
Pandan (at least the specie used in SE Asia) don't produce flowers. It only reproduce by shoots. Apparently a side-effect of the domestication process.
I need to know where you buy the pandan plant.
@kira kim it's expensive in Amazon or eBay =( I'm looking as well
@kira kim will try to do that on the weekends.. Thank you

Can pandan grow in clay, but in asia we got a lot of rain my keep dying put in clay soil 😢
Thank for These Informations
My favorite plant
Ebay sells pandan seeds, so I just want to know if it's true that pandan plant has seeds? Thanks.
Apparently eBay isn't real... the edible pandan rarely flowers/goes to seed, and thus is normally propagated by root suckers (i.e. baby plants sent out from a mother plant).
Please do not order from,eBay for Pandan seeds. Its a scam. I lost 4.99 and never got any package. Within half hour of placing the order, it shows the status as shipped, but its a big scam.
@@tall5418 thank you.
hi does pandanus amaryllifolius require ericaceous soil (lime hating , acid loving plant ) or can i just use normal all purpose compost ?
Its Pandan , pronounced PAHN DAN (like the word 'pun' + done)
I know it's cringey, right! But you've got to excuse those whiteys. They "accent" up everything.
Lmfaooo that was bugging me too!
Wasn't it can grow in very moist soil? In Malaysia here i just saw pandan grow near body of water wereby its root latch at a very moist soil. It seems fine. Can you clarify it back? Thanks
as I know, because in malaysia the environment is humid and not as dry as in country that have 4 season... I don't have a problems to grow pandan in my hometown (indonesia) and being honest I am struggle now to look after my pandan in sydney which is winter is around the corner and the leaf turn yellow so stressful (just bought 2 pots).. no wonder I notice that ppl will sell their young pandan plant during autumn before winter as it'll give less hassle to look after them... :)
Honestly these things can grow literally anywhere.

where can i get the seeds in the States (Indiana)?
I have the same question ? But anywhere in Orlando???
Thanks for the video ,
I bought 50 seeds from China and they did not grow. I even tried sprouting and still nothing.
Shi Choong pandan propagates fr suckers(shoots fr sides of parent plant). It produces neither flowers nor fruits.
I never hear pandan plant by seeds , how-come ebay sell by seeds ?
How do you think a plant came to be?
No one talks about seeds bc it takes way too long. A normal cutting takes about 2-3 months, imagine how long it'd be for seeds?
Hey, I'm in Asia, and got introduced to the taste of pandan, which I really like.
Do you know how to make tea of it when you have a plant? Can you use the fresh leaves, or do you have to dry them or process it in a different way?
Hi Thomas Schoneveld , you can use both way.. i prefer the fresh leaves.. the aroma of pandan is so refreshing. I also put pandan leaves in my car to get rid of the cockroaches.
Suhaili Sulaiman thank you for the info 😃🍀
You can use fresh and boil it.
Thank you for sharing 👍👍👍❤️❤️

I ordered two plants online from Sri Lanka. They sent me two stalks 7" long that were 1" in diameter with no roots and no leaves. Is there any way I can root these? I put them in water as soon as I received them and started looking for instructions online. Help would be greatly appreciated.
Jim Ferguson, put them in a bowl of water and keep indoor during cold seasons in bright light. Wait till they roots to pot

Thank you, it's that the one that produces fruits?
Yes
No
Hi thanks for information for pandan plant, would you sale one of pandan plant to me .
So excited... forgot to ask... when do I need to transplant? Do they need a lot of dirt like potatoes? How large does the root ball get... and so, what type of pot is needed? (tall? wide?) Thanks for answering!
Ang Yvonne, do not over pot it, just barely enough to cover the root ball and best to use orchid soil for better aeration
Are you MI Gardener?
I'm gon get myself a pandan at my place just to remind myself how Asian I am😂
Very informative! I enjoyed your video. Thx!

Hi, I live in Alabama. Where can I buy this pandan plant in USA ? Thanks !
Thailand
Amazon or eBay?
Nice video, thanks for sharing. Great information on this plant which is kind of new to me. I'm sure it would grow well here and more and more Asian recipes I've discovered require pandan. I didn't even know what it was and I've been cooking Asian food all my life. Will try to get some of these at a Farmer's Market or botanical shop. Subscribing! Thanks!
I want to grow some, but it’s so expensive..tiny plants like this here goes for $35+ plus shipping.
And in Malaysia you could get these plants by picking 'em in some random jungle next to your house
In Indonesia there is so much pandan plant in the side of the road and in Indonesia online shop pandan plant just cost below 1 dollar for small pandam plant plus free delivery

Hey!!! I know you. MI Gardner
I just bought a pot of pandan and I'm putting it in my room to get rid of cockroaches as I heard it's a natural roach repellant. I hope it's true.
Ronnie Dylan I really think it works! I haven't seen any roach inside my room for a while now. They actually told me to hang the leaves but I liked how the actuall plant looks like so I bought one instead. It's totally low maintenance and doesn't seem to need so much sunlight.
Gwen Rey Russe
Gwen Rey Russel; Yes it's true, pandan smell repel cockroach. You can cut a few leaves and put it the kitchen cabinets or cupboards.
It is a lot healthier to clean your room always so the roaches don't take residence.
You can make Soothing tea out of it.
Thanks.
I clicked because of the cute guy. I don't even like plants.
You just got a new subscriber
